Tell Her No Lies by Kelly Irvin is a book you don’t want to miss!
All I can say is, WOW! I started this book during my five-hour layover when I flew home from the Writer’s Police Academy’s Murder Con, and I almost didn’t want to get off the plane because I only had a few pages left to read. Even though I didn’t get home until one a.m., I took the time to finish the book because I had to know how it ended. Every time I thought I had it figured out, there was another twist. Kelly Irvin is a master storyteller.
I’ve read Kelly Irvin’s Amish books, but this was her first romantic suspense that I’d read but it won’t be her last. I see that a second book released in June, Over the Line, and that one has gone to the top of my TBR table.
This is the first book I have read by this author. I look forward to reading more! The novel was fast-paced and difficult to put down. The main character’s struggle with faith and questioning of God was very realistic. Overall, it was an enjoyable Christian romantic suspense novel.
I consider this a must read for Romantic Suspense fans. It didn’t grab my attention on the first page as some novels do but it did shortly thereafter. And when it did I could hardly put it down. Lots of twists involved that keeps you wondering what is really happening. Who is wanting Nina dead and why? As for the romance it is also a little twisted. Nina can’t seem to make up her mind whether she wants Aaron or Rick. Then there is the situation with her biological mother. This is absolutely a book that will keep you guessing and keep you turning pages until the end.
Intriguing
I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild, I was not required to give a favorable review. This was a very interesting mystery/murder suspense. It starts off with Nina’s uncle/adopted dad being killed in his home while she was on the third floor working in her dark room and her sister & niece both asleep. But the police thinks she may have done it. But when strange things start happening and other people that are either worked with him or looking into investigating the judge 2 other people get killed. Then they go after both Nina & her friend Aaron. This book keeps you on your toes to who actually caused the first murder and everyone one after. I really enjoyed it.
Nina Fischer and her sister, Jan, are adopted as small children by her uncle. He is a pillar of the community and church and a well-respected judge. One night while in her dark room, Nina is drawn to her father’s study only to find him murdered. She calls 911 and, of course, is accused of doing the shooting. As the book unfolds, you learn more secrets of the family that decimate her. More murders take place, she is on the suspect list again.
The characters are well developed and interesting. The action moves along nicely. The book takes place in a matter of days. I know it’s fiction, but Nina sustains injuries about every time she leaves the house. I don’t know how she did it. One encounter with a bad guy in my own home would have me packing. The romance side of it is sweet and not overbearing. It has two men wanting to romance Nina. If you like a story with an ending where the under dog gets his day, you’ll enjoy this read.
So, how do I put this? Well, I pride myself in providing honest, and quality, reviews, so, I’ll say this. I didn’t care for this one. It took me three times to get through just the first four chapters. As someone who has read and loved Kelly Irvin’s Amish romances, I was very disappointed in the outcome of reading this one. I didn’t finish it past chapter 4.
The dialogue was not easy to follow, as it felt stiff. I just could not enjoy a book like that. The characters weren’t life like to me, like I like to feel when reading about them. I like to become the characters, to feel as though I’m a part of the story. Not being able to get past chapter 4…..well, that’s because the characters all felt forced.
That said, I do still encourage you to try this book. Not everyone is for every book and not every book is for everyone. What I found forced and undesirable, you may find beautifully chiseled and absolutely gripping, as you can see that Kelly Irvin really does have a great writing style, if you’ve read her past Amish novels. So, this will be my first 2 star review in quite some time. I hope that you find you like it, if you give it a try.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harper Collins (Thomas Nelson) and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
Edge of your seat suspense with enough twists to keep you turning pages quickly. Kelly Irvin has stepped out of the Amish Fiction genre with a bang and I look forward to reading more romantic suspense from her. I loved looking at the character of Nina as she opens up to Aaron and we learn her heart. I was rooting for Aaron as he is a male character you will fall in love with. This story has many underlying layers and I enjoyed peeling them back and learning what makes the characters tick …..flawed and real. A great heart pounding read.

Could Not Put It Down!
Although I enjoy romantic suspense stories, it’s been awhile since I’ve read one. I chose to read this book because I’m familiar with some of this author’s other works which are not in this genre, Thus, my curiosity was piqued when I realized Tell Her No Lies is a romantic suspense story. And let me say that I am soooo glad I chose to read it. This book is amazing! Once I began reading it, I could not put it down!
The story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen next, I was left saying, “Wow! I did not see that coming!” The plot moved along at a good pace, and the details throughout the story helped create a great visual of every scene. It has just the right blend of suspense and romance. Ms. Irvin undeniably hit the mark with this romantic suspense novel. It is without any reservation that I highly recommend Tell Her No Lies to those who enjoy this genre as well as those who are new to it. In my humble opinion, once you begin reading it, you will not be able to put it down, and you most definitely will not be disappointed.
Let’s face it, there are some books that just do not translate well to audiobook. Tell Her No Lies falls into that category mostly because of its many points of view and revolving characters. I had some difficulty keeping track of whose head I was supposed to be in a few times.
I loved Aaron, the guy who is steady and always there for Nina. I felt for him and his frustration with Nick (who definitely fit into the selfish jerk—and more—category). I never quite connected with Nina, who is the main focus of the book, though I wanted to.
While the suspense was a little bumpy and there were some intense moments, the scenes in between sometimes dragged. Yet overall, as a first romantic suspense from Kelly Irvin (who is best known for her Amish fiction), this is a decent story with some weaknesses but nothing that will prevent me from checking out what she produces next in this new-to-her genre.

Nina Fischer and her sister were adopted by her uncle after their deadbeat mother abandoned them as children. Now she’s an adult and an aspiring photographer … and a person of interest when her uncle is murdered in his study in the wee hours of the morning and she’s the only other person in the house.
It’s a great start to an excellent murder mystery.
We know Nina wasn’t the culprit, as she was on the telephone to her not-boyfriend at the time (hey, this is important. I’ve recently read a romantic suspense where the hero said he didn’t do it, but I didn’t know whether to believe him or not).
There is also the tension between Nina and the two men who are interested in her: Rick Zavala, the poor boy turned rising young lawyer, and Aaron McClure, a photojournalist with his own reasons for following her case.
This is the first novel I’ve read from Kelly Irvin, because her previous novels have all been Amish romance—not a genre I read. Tell Me No Lies has the distinction of being one of the few novels I’ve read from an Amish fiction author I’ve actually enjoyed (along with Vanetta Chapman and Shelley Shepherd Grey). The others have been lacking in research rigour, writing craft, or both.
I hope this isn’t Kelly Irvin’s only foray outside Amish fiction, as I’d like to read more of her writing.
The plot has plenty of twists and turns and red herrings. The writing is funny and smart, as were the characters. There’s plenty of suspense, a sweet romance, and a solid Christian thread. All in all, Tell Her No Lies is a great read.
Recommended for fans of Christian thrillers and romantic suspense from authors such as Robyn Caroll, Lisa Harris, and Diann Mills.

The case is complicated and members of the supporting cast keep turning up dead; Nina Fischer only wants to know the truth; “tell her no lies”.
A fast paced thriller that is sure to satisfy fans of romantic suspense!
This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Irvin. I was interested in the book, because of its cover and description and decided I wanted to read it. Wow! This suspense story was very impressive. Her writing reminded me of other suspense authors that I enjoy reading. This book focuses on Nina who finds her father after he is murdered. Throughout the story, Nina is trying to discover who murdered her father and why. There are a couple of men in her life. Rick has been her childhood friend and she has to figure out if she wants a romantic relationship with him or Aaron. Aaron has been there for her since college. Together with Aaron they try to follow the evidence to discover what occurred. Having believed her father to be an upstanding judge, Nina finds out that he had his own secrets. This is a romantic suspense book that will definitely keep you wanting to drop everything to read this book! I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed if you enjoy romantic suspense stories.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.
TELL HER. NO. LIES. by Kelly Irwin
Nina hears a whisper, following the sound she goes into her Dad’s office. the gun cabinet is open, and her father was down. A foster dad that had taken Jan and her in and made them his daughters. A state district court judge died in his home. Aaron her best friend had come avoiding the media at the front, yet was a photographer. He had to follow the story no matter how it turned out. Detective King orders all media to stay in the front, and she in the house. Two things he let her know, no forced entry and she was alone in house. She was in the dark room, doing her photos. Rick was Nina boyfriend, his ticket to the social group he wanted, to her just a friend. Would she being calling him as a lawyer. For Nina she wanted her camera lens to observe, and have a buffer of what was going on. King wanted to see her work area, where she lived, third floor, or one would call the attic. Her pictures were of the homeless, he questions her why here, and of them. She could tell he didn’t approve of her, or approve of her family. Telling her, he was determined to get the killer, taking her to the precinct. The plot is superb with the dialog of the Detective King, you can feel his no nonsense attitude, as though he.was bigger than life, determined. Powerful story, you are caught, from that first whisper. For Nina and her sister, a life is shattered when the real person the judge was, become known Readers will welcome and want to read this
book. Given ARC by Thomas Nelson for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Nina is a complex person. She has trouble trusting anyone and you better not lie to her. There is a lot of twists and turns in this book that I didn’t see coming. Who killed the judge was a real surprise. I will say I didn’t care for Rick from the beginning of the book. I did like Aaron. He seemed more concerned about Nina than about anyone else. If you like a good mystery, this is it.
I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
