1.Hate-screw my high school nemesis.2.Remember to hate him.3.Prove my brother wrong.It should be easy.It isn’t.As the owner of Pick-A-D*ck, New Orleans’ premier hook-up website, my job is simple. Connect two people for a no-strings, no-expectations hook-up. The plus for my clients is that I’m the one who gets to sift through the d*ck pics—except this time, they’re required.My problem? My brother, … required.
My problem? My brother, co-owner of Pick-A-D*ck’s sister dating site, doesn’t believe it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love.
I disagree. I know it’s possible.
And my disagreement is exactly how I end up reconnected with my high school nemesis, Elliott Sloane. The guy who asked me to junior prom and then stood me up. Who egged my car when I rejected him, and convinced my senior homecoming date to ghost me.
It should be easy to hate-screw him. If only he was still that person, instead of a hot-as-hell single dad, working as a builder to make ends’ meet, fighting for custody of his daughter.
Three hook-ups.
One outcome.
Right?
(The Hook-Up Experiment is book one of the Experiment duet. If you’ve read The Upside to Being Single, this is Peyton’s story.)

Hot Single dad
Strong, sassy, witty heroine
I loved Peyton in The Upside to Being Single, she was THE friends that knew it all and had an answer for everything….
In the Hook Up Experiment, she is the same stubborn girl who is determined to prove her brother wrong . Sex with no strings attached is possible , friends with benefit is possible , going out on 3 dates with zero chemistry or love or feelings possible… until Elliot is back no longer as her nemesis, but as the hot single daddy!!
“Could I really go through with this stupid three hook-up thing with Peyton? One down, two to go.”
As usual, Emma made me LOL so much that it hurts!! The Hook Up Experiment has all the ingredients of an EPIC romcom!
Peyton Austin has hated Elliott Sloane with a white-hot passion since he stood her up for her junior prom. Ten years has done nothing to quench the flames of her dislike, but Fate, in the form of Peyton’s brother and her two best friends, is having one heck of a laugh at her expense.
They’re baaaack….Yep, the ladies that we met and loved in THE UPSIDE TO BEING SINGLE by author Emma Hart are back, and they’re as clumsy (Mellie), in denial (Chloe), and sassy as all get-out (well, all of them, but Peyton, most particularly) in THE HOOK-UP EXPERIMENT, the second book with these lovably quirky characters.
Peyton is a pepper pot of the highest order, with snark coming as naturally to her as breathing, and, man, she is locked and loaded to let Elliott have it. I mean, what else could be expected for the man that had been the bane of her teen years?
But the Elliott that Peyton meets now is not the same guy, at least as far as she can tell. This Elliott is as sexy as she remembers, sure, and more than able to hold his own with her, but he’s changed in a lot of ways, too, ways that make Peyton want to spend more time listening to his story.
Emma’s romantic comedies are always winners for me, but I absolutely adore the way that she writes kids. Briony steals the show here, and I could not love her any more. The scenes with her, as well as Elliott’s woman-power espousing mother, made for some of the funniest moments in the book. And Dom and Chloe? When this hard-headed and hilarious duo finally get it together (which they will, and there will be a book to cover every delicious moment!), I predict all kinds of shenanigans. Another well-earned 4. 5 stars for THE HOOK-UP EXPERIMENT. Sass, steam, and a second chance; what could be better?
4.5 stars!
The Hook-Up Experiment is such a fun and sweet read. I have come to love Mellie, Peyton, and Chloe and I have been anxious to get to Peyton’s story. She is stubborn and feisty and I love her. Elliott is quite the swoony single dad! I loved seeing the caring and nurturing side along with his sexy side. I just adored him and Briony. Emma always seems to write the absolutely perfect single parents time and time again.
Another smash hit RomCom by Emma Hart!!
This is the first book in The Experiment Series, and can be read as standalones, we have initially met the main characters in this book in The Upside of Being Single, and would wholeheartedly recommend reading this one, if not first, then at some stage, as it gives you the whole background as to what’s going on, and is Mellie and Jake’s story, not to be missed!!
This book is about Peyton and Elliott.
Peyton runs a hook up dating site, which connects people for a no strings, no relationship type of dating. Her brother co-runs the sister site to this hook up service, and believes you can’t hook up with one person 3 times and not fall in love. Peyton disagrees, and takes the bet, with her friends going through the admissions on her PAD (Pick A D*ck) and finding someone they think she can never fall for – except the guy turns out to be her arch nemesis from high school, who stood her up for prom, Elliott.
This was a fabulous, hilarious, sexy, sweet and charming read!! Emma’s heroines are always fiesty and sassy, Peyton is no exception!! She’s stubborn, sarcastic and fiesty with it, a great friend to her besties – although she want’s to kill them for picking Elliott out for the bet – she’s fun and interesting, and has an awesome job lol!!! Elliott turns out to be even more handsome than she remembers from high school – now all grown up with a chiseled jaw and abs for miles!! With his own brand of sarcasm and wit to match against Peyton, a smile to die for and sexiness to melt over, she’s in real trouble here, especially when she sees how Elliott dotes on his 3 yr old daughter Briony!!
This starts as an enemies to lovers read, but they cannot deny the chemistry still there between them. The more time they spend together, the hotter they get for each other!! But their worlds are so different – Peyton runs her own dating site and has some OCD obsessions about things being clean, tidy and in order. Elliott has his own house where he lives with his 3 yr old daughter, completely messy but very much a family home. There are some laugh out loud moments going on here where her OCD clashes with the family environment lol!! Briony herself obviously plays a massive role in this story, the interaction between her and Elliott and later Peyton is just heartwarming, she’s such a little star – she had me laughing at her antics, she was just adorable.
A great read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and highly recommend you give it a go!! 5 fab stars.
Laugh out loud HILARIOUS, uber SEXY, and absolutely CHARMING!
“Peyton, I’m going to kiss you. You’re going to let me, and you’re going to like it.”
This has got to be one of the most DELIGHTFUL enemies-to-lovers romance I’ve read this year! Of course, Emma Hart would bring her A-GAME with Peyton and Elliott’s story! This woman is an absolute GENIUS when it comes to Romantic Comedy! Not only is this an enemies-to-lovers romance, it’s a SEXY single dad romance AND a second chance romance! ALL THE ROMANCE you could EVER WANT in one ADORABLE package!
Peyton has got to go down as one of my FAVORITE heroines! I just love her style, her sass, and her confidence. And Elliott? All I can say is…YUMMY! Together these two absolutely LIGHT UP THE PAGES with their banter, their tension, and their hilarity. I couldn’t get enough! I MUST mention the back and forth between Peyton and her brother, Dominic. OMG! It’s so DAMN COMICAL! All of these characters just blew me away with every turn of the page…my cheeks were so sore from smiling the entire time. Trust me when I say, THIS is a rom-com you are gonna want to read OVER and OVER again!
Emma Hart’s brand of hilarious storytelling will ALWAYS keep you on your toes, will ALWAYS leave you with a huge smile on your face, and will ALWAYS leave you absolutely SMITTEN!
Nothing like getting into a fight with your brother and then basically being dared to hook up 3 times with a guy and not fall in love. I own a hook up dating sight, this will be the easiest $500 I’ll make off my brother. My brother owns a dating website and is such a romantic.
In order to help me out, I enlist my 2 best friends who will pick out the guy I have to hook up with. This just got easier. They go and pick the guy who left me stranded at my junior prom and then proceeded to make my life torture my senior year. This can’t fail. Except, he’s really hot. And, nothing is really as it seems, is it?
Emma is a wiz at writing strong funny female characters with equally charming strong alpha males that love to challenge each other. Throw in an adorable kid and it’s a winner.
***5 ‘Emotions Were Of The Devil. And The Devil Was A Whore’ Stars***
I devoured this book.
I did.
I did start it the night before, but Daylight Savings happened and the brain did not Spring forward along with the time. But when I sat down and did the “just a peek, maybe a chapter” thing…well, it turned into finishing the book in no time flat (Sorry #workthing) but it was SO good. Laugh out loud funny, swoon worthy ~ in more ways than one, sweet and oh so smexy! It hit all my buttons in just the right way that I didn’t want it to end, but loved how everything played out.
I loved Peyton in The Upside of Being Single and all this book did was make me adore her even more. She has moxie. Plain and simple. This woman owns everything she does. She’s comfortable in her own skin and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, sometimes a little too much. And though she may not want to fall in love, when she does consider someone hers, she gives them her all and I loved seeing that side of her because it just made me adore her more.
Elliott. This man is a good man, and part of it does have to do with being a single parent to a toddler. He’s patient, straightforward and has a huge heart. He also has a bit of Alpha AF in him that comes out to play, which only serves to make even smexier than he already is.
As this is an enemies to lovers romance, things definitely don’t start out on a good note with Peyton and Elliott, but what one cannot deny is the spark that blazes between them when they are together. It’s hot, hands down, HOT! And as they spend more time together, in and out of bed, it’s apparent that they could have something amazing should they take a step back and take the time to truly listen to one another and be honest with themselves.
And then there is Briony. This little girl was EVERYTHING! It’s no secret that I love it when children play an important role in the story because they tend to force adults to show their true selves, and Briony does that when it comes to Elliott and Peyton. But this little girl had me cracking up, cringing and wanting to hug her anytime she was around.
This was such a fun, smexy read that was full of heart but wasn’t as angsty as I thought it would be ~ oh there is some good moments, but nothing crazy and OTT. I loved Mimi, Dom and Peyton’s grandmother and loved seeing how Mellie and Jake are doing, but I am definitely looking forward to Chloe and Dom’s book because after all that went down in this one, that one is gonna be all kinds of interesting!

Peyton Austin spends her days arranging hook-ups through her business and website Pick-a-D*ck. Although, her days of wading through d*ck pics are generally fulfilling, she is starting to feel like something may be missing. Which is why when her brother challenges her to a bet, she jumps at the chance to prove him wrong.
The bet? Have sex with a guy from her database three times and NOT fall in love. It seriously couldn’t be any easier of a challenge…
Elliott Sloane is a busy single dad who doesn’t have time for dating. When he signs up for a hook-up, he is looking to have an uncomplicated time with someone who is looking for the same thing that he is. And then Peyton walks through the door…
While they hated each other in high school, they can both agree on one thing nowadays… and a little hate sex never hurt anyone….
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book was fan-freaking-tastic! Peyton is an independent, hard working woman, who knows what she wants and has the self confidence to always be true to herself. Her hatred of Elliott runs deep, and she figures that makes him the perfect candidate to sleep with and not fall in love with… until Elliott flips the script on her.
In high school, Elliott really liked Peyton, until she wouldn’t give him the time of day. He is now a busy single father of an adorable three year old daughter, and doesn’t have the time to worry about making the past clear to Peyton… until their hook-up starts to seem like it could be something more.
This book was hilarious, sexy and a refreshing take on a second chance romance that you don’t want to miss! I loved both Peyton and Elliott, they had the best banter and an all around adorable love/hate relationship.
Come for the intense hate sex… then stay for the hilarious aftermath!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
The Queen of Romantic Comedy does it again! And, this time around, Emma Hart had me at the title of Peyton and Peyton’s brother’s premier hook-up website “Pick-A-D*ick,” and while I don’t particularly envy Peyton’s title as the ‘official d*ck pic sorter,’ the whole concept of their hook-up service is as much intriguing as it is scarring based on the pictures that Peyton has the good or bad fortune of sifting through and the endless amount of stories that both she and her brother have in their arsenal to not only prove that their business actually works but also to entertain their friends with as much outlandish behavior as possible.
Peyton Austin is a girl after my own heart – partly because I’m just as snarky, stubborn, and sarcastic as she is and partly because she owns who she is, how she makes money, and how she spends her time. There’s nothing about Peyton that seems manufactured. She is who she is and people either accept her or they don’t; she doesn’t care in the slightest because she refuses to be someone she’s not, even if it’s for a man or maybe especially if it’s a man.
The fact that Peyton is the one who believes that hooking up with the same person three times doesn’t have to develop into something more, changes things up a bit, and while Peyton’s not one to turn down a bet, I had a feeling from Peyton and Elliott’s initial reunion that things were not going to be as easy as Peyton thought they would be because the man that Elliott Sloane has become is nothing like the teenage boy who was a no-show for prom, which means that all of Peyton’s disdain for him has nowhere to go and holding something against someone that happened so many years ago definitely becomes problematic when their hook ups become so much more than random and emotionless.
Once again, Emma Hart creates a scene stealer in her creation of Elliott’s little girl. There’s no way anyone can interaction with her and not be smitten with her innocence and her honesty, and regardless of how much Peyton would like to deny it or perhaps not accept her feelings, she is definitely not immune to this young girl’s charm and loveliness and I know everyone who reads The Hook-Up Experiment will be smitten by her as well.
I’m so glad that Emma Hart is giving readers more of Peyton and Elliott’s story and I love that it changed from an experiment of hooking up to an experiment of dating her brother’s best friend and falling in love. There’s so much still to know about these two as well as their friends, and I can’t leave out Elliott’s daughter because I’m excited to watch her grow up and teach the adults a thing or two about living and loving.
4.5 Poison Apples
The Hook-Up Experiment is the first book in The Experiment Duet, but if you read The Upside to Being Single, this is Peyton’s story! Emma Hart is the queen of the rom-com. I read all of her books because she’s hilarious and talented. I don’t know how she keeps coming up with these fantastic characters and funny as hell plots! Peyton is independent, stubborn, beautiful and holding a decade long grudge on her high school sweetheart. She needs to prove to her brother that she can sleep with a guy three times and not fall in love. She can totally do that. Until she sees the guy. Elliott Sloane. She hates him. So much. He broke her heart in high school. This is going to be a piece of cake. Until he looks at her that way. Until he finally gets to tell her the truth. Can she handle the truth? Will it change everything she thought she knew? Elliott is sweet, sexy and gives as good as he gets. He doesn’t let Peyton get away with her craziness. He let her get away once and he isn’t going to do that again. He has a lot going on in his life, raising his daughter on his own, but he can’t say no to Peyton. Elliott and Peyton are hilarious together! Their banter is top notch and their chemistry is hot. Overall, I laughed, got hot and bothered and wanted more! I loved seeing previous characters again and I can’t wait for Chloe’s story!
The Hook-Up Experiment was such a fantastic enemies to lovers romance with the sassy spitfire and typical comedic shenanigans we have come to expect from an Emma Hart story. This novel was the perfect combination of enemies to lovers and single daddy swoon worthiness it made my head spin. It was sexy and addicting and I could not get enough of these two.
When Peyton Austin makes a bet with her brother that a person CAN in fact have a sexual relationship/friends with benefits arrangement with someone and NOT fall in love, her wits and assertions are threatened when Elliot Sloane walks back into her life. Her once High School nemesis (and crush) and now single daddy heartthrob is the perfect man to sleep with 3x before moving on with ZERO feelings. But what happens when past assumptions Peyon had about Elliot prove to be false and the real truth is hidden right beneath the surface? Will they both take a chance this time around to see the real person beneath?
I loved Peyton in the first book and could not wait for her story. I thought her and Elliot had hysterical banter, chemistry and had swoony moments that hit you right in the feels. I can’t wait until Chloe’s book! 4 stars! ~Ratula
The Hook Up Experiment is book #1 in the Experiment Series and I have to say, this book was so amazingly sexy, absolutely hilarious and even touched on a deeper subject, a single dad.
Peyton and Elliot had a thing back in high school until Elliot did the unthinkable and made Peyton his number one enemy. For the last ten years, she has LOVED to hate the man. But when Peyton’s friends set her up on a blind date to win a bet against her brother, all bets are off when she walks in to find Elliot as her blind date.
This was the perfect combination of an enemies to lovers story but also the romantic comedy that we’ve all come to love from Emma Hart. Peyton and Elliot were more than perfect for each other, their banter was hysterical and the chemistry between them is probably the best I’ve ever read (just oh so sexy and hot). There was just the right amount of fun, sexiness and then throw in a 3 year old little girl? Priceless. I think what I love most about the story though is the friendship between Mellie, Peyton and Chloe. I wish I had girlfriends like that!!
The Hook Up Experiment is another fantastic, five star read from Emma Hart!
In true Emma form, I laughed the entire time. I love when the characters make me laugh out loud, but I love it even more watching them grow.
Peyton and Elliott are one of my new favorite Hart couples. From Peyton and her PAD website to how much she doesn’t want to like Elliott. Watching Peyton grow as an adult in the story was amazing. She learned to love and forgive, but watching her fall in love was my favorite part.
Elliott didn’t want to start dating, so when he found PAD, he was just looking for a hookup. What he wasn’t prepared to find was Peyton. I loved watching Elliott with Brioney, seeing that relationship was amazing. New found love of single dad’s right here! But watching the three of them together? I fell right in love.
I can’t wait for the next book in this duet!
The Hook -Up Experiment is book one in a new series from one of the best authors of Rom -Com and if this book is anything to go by she has another hit duet on her hands. We first met Peyton in The Upside of Being Single but that doesn’t mean you need to have read that book to love this one.
Peyton and Elliott’s story is the perfect mix of love, romance and humour it has some hilarious laugh out loud moments and what can I say about the chemistry it’s off the charts. This is a second chance romance (Elliott broke Peyton’s heart in high school) and this time around she is determined not to let that happen again but when Peyton meets the adorable 3 year old daughter that Elliott is raising on his own her ovaries go into overdrive and she finds herself not only falling for the man but also falling for his beautiful daughter. Will second time around work for this couple ………
This book has it all, it’s funny, it’s hot, it has some great banter and what can I say about the wonderful chatter from the adorable 3 year old apart from she captured my heart. If you like ve Rom-Com you won’t want to miss reading this one.
Nothing like a little risque business to prove a point. Emma Hart keeps the hits coming with a little more naughty, a tad less nice and a whole lot of love. Prepare to have a good time with revenge served Peyton style. Elliott and Peyton make it hurt so good with a battle of wills that has only one foreseeable outcome. The Hook – Up Experiment is payback at it’s most entertaining. Sexy, humorous and irresistible.
