Popped my Carmen Jenner Cherry with this book. What a great quick paced, free flowing, laugh out loud story!!! I opened this book and could not put it down till I finished. It was one OMG moment after another.
Poppy Porter is a bigger woman than I could ever be! That is for sure. Working her way up the ladder in her current job as an associate wedding planner, this upcoming wedding will surely get her the promotion she so desperately needs.
The catch to this upcoming wedding…It’s her ex best friend who is getting married to her ex. Now you see why I say Poppy is a bigger woman than I could ever be. I would forgo the promotion and sabotage the wedding in a heartbeat!
Leo Nass, the most immature human being ever aka the biggest man whore in NYC is the best man at the wedding. Being friends with the groom and Poppy since they were children. He was responsible for breaking up Poppy and the groom’s 7-year relationship.
The banter between Poppy-PopTart and Leo was outstanding! This book nailed what a rom-com should be. Great cherry popping book for me!!

This was my first Carmen Jenner book, and oh boy, it certainly will not be my last. I have been recommended Carmens books by a friend for the last few months, so finally getting to read one was awesome.
I loved this book! I was hooked from the very beginning, that prologue sure draws you in. Also, this book is so hilarious. I was grinning like a fool at my kindle so often its ridiculous.
Both of the main characters in this are absolutely wonderful. Leo is full of charm and witt, he’s damned hilarious, and Poppy is a very strong female lead. The banter between the two of them is awesome and was one of my favourite things about the storyline. It was constant, and just plain normal for both of them.
The situation that Poppy ends up in, is one that most females would run like hell from. I know I sure would. But, she takes her job seriously, and stands up to be strong, even in the face of all the humiliation thats sure to rain down on her. And as such, all the hilarity starts.
I really wanted to punch Claire in the face. And Chase, god help me. I couldn’t stand either of them. But I guess thats part of what makes the story so good. It makes you feel things.
For the most part, this is an uplifting story. It has its horrible moments, especially given the situation, but because its a romcom, its all written in such a way that you just roll with the punches and enjoy every moment.
The book rolls on smoothly and is well written. I loved following the journey between Leo and Poppy, and there really are some awesome scenes in this book. This was a fantastic romcom and I can’t wait to read more from Carmen.
Cake by Carmen Jenner is a standalone romantic comedy told in dual POV with two of the funniest characters I have read in a while.
Poppy, AKA Pop-Tart, is a wedding planner with a problem. The wedding she is currently assigned to… Her ex-fiance’s and her ex-best-friends. Can you say awkward. Add in the best man, Leo Nass, who also happens to be Poppy’s arch-nemesis and it is a disaster in the making.
Leo finds Poppy challenging, infuriating and somehow irresistible in the way he can’t help but push her buttons every chance he gets. She hates him because she thinks he is the reason Chase broke it off with her but he couldn’t let Chase continue to treat her the way he was. It was Poppy after all.
Well-written and well-paced this book was both humorous, sweet and VERY sexy! I have not read much of Carmen Jenner but what I have read I have absolutely adored and I always am eager to jump on her new releases. This book was no exception. Enjoy!
This book was a fun, fast read that made me laugh out loud more than once. I started reading Cake after finishing a very emotional book, and it was just what the doctor ordered. This feel good enemies to lovers romance was so enjoyable, I couldn’t put it down until I was completely finished. Poppy and Leo were wonderful.
Poppy and Leo have a long history, but it’s not exactly the kind that makes you think of happily-ever-afters. Poppy is having a hard time. When her ex-fiance and her best friend announce their engagement mere months after their break-up, happiness seems to be out of reach. To add insult to injury, she is not only expected to be the maid of honor, but also help organize the wedding as an assistant to their wedding planner who she is competing with for a promotion. When things can’t seem to get worse, dealing with Leo, her arch-nemesis and the best man, seems to be the icing on her misery cake. Leo seems to make things difficult for her at every turn, but could there be more behind his actions?
I loved Poppy and Leo. While Poppy is going through a ridiculously hard time, she still takes care of business. She is a better friend than anyone should ever expect, and her loyalty is admirable, however, I loved that she did have a backbone. Some of my very favorite scenes were the ones where she wasn’t just doing what was expected of her. And Leo was so lovable. While he seemed immature and maybe even a tad annoying in the beginning, there was so much more to him. I loved the little glimpses into the good guy he could really be.
I am a huge fan of enemies to lovers, and this book had it all. Their banter was great from the very beginning. Sassy retorts and teases had me laughing and sparks flying from the very beginning. It was only a matter of time before those sparks ignited a fire between these two. And once the fire started, it was a blazing inferno! The passion between these two was undeniable.
This was my first book by Carmen Jenner, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were great characters (some I loved and some I couldn’t stand), witty dialogue, a fast pace, and she kept me laughing. If you are looking for a fun, fast paced rom-com, I definitely recommend this book!
I received an advanced copy of this book with no obligations to or expectations from the author.
Carmen Jenner had me hooked from the very first page! After reading the synopsis, I thought this would be a great read, but it was better than I ever imagined! It is full of snark, chemistry, a sassy heroine and a sexy, sarcastic hero, and plenty of laughs.
Poppy is having a rough time. Her best friend is marrying her ex-fiance, and her bridal consulting firm has the job with Poppy helping. To really rub salt in the wound, she has agreed to be her maid of honor. Yeah, this girl has a heart of gold. Privately, her heart is breaking, not so much because of her douchebag ex, but more so because of her best friend. One night while drowning her sorrows with some alcohol, she makes the dumb decision to go out, and that’s when Leo enters her life again. Leo is her ex’s best friend, and he has made Poppy’s life miserable since they were little. He comes to her rescue, and now he can’t leave her alone. Poppy isn’t sure she wants him to. But, can two people who loathe each other really be harboring some secret feelings for one another? Read on to find out! I guarantee you will fall in love with Poppy and Leo.
The snark and the sexual chemistry between these two are what kept the pages flying for me! I don’t think I’ve ever met such an entertaining couple! I kept waiting to hear what outrageous things would come out of their mouths next. As I write in many of my reviews, I love when a man like Leo, who looks like he will never commit, is brought to his knees. Poppy was just the woman for the job. She is not his usual type. She is beautiful, but what makes her so special is her quirkiness. I loved it! I mean…this woman named her cats Sam, Dean, and Cas from Supernatural. This is a woman after my own heart. Leo is an egotistical, arrogant man, but like Poppy, I couldn’t help but love him!
I’ll tell you how much I loved this book! I was on the treadmill at the gym, and sometimes that drags, but Carmen Jenner made the time fly. I’m sure people thought I was nuts while running because I was laughing so hard!!! Carmen Jenner is a new author to me, but now I’ll be downloading everything she writes.

Cake is an enemies-to-lovers’ story, but, I have to say, for most of the book, Poppy Porter and Leo Nass are extremely unpleasant towards one another; in fact, Leo makes some supremely ‘dick’ moves when it comes to his manwhore tendencies, and while I get that he doesn’t know what to do with his growing feelings and sexual attraction to Poppy, I really didn’t like him much until the very end of the story, and even then, I still struggled with his prior actions, and I felt like Poppy’s nickname for Leo, ‘Nass the Ass’ is a fitting moniker for the best man.
Don’t get me wrong, the ‘hateful’ banter between Poppy and Leo is full of sexual tension, and it’s clear there’s something brewing underneath all the hostility, but I just couldn’t understand Leo’s hasty choices or the real reasons behind their respective loathing that seems to have stemmed from the way Leo tormented Poppy when they were kids, even though that was quite a long time ago.
Despite my issues with Leo, Cake is a hilarious romantic comedy – one that finds the Poppy in quite the predicament when it comes to her wanting a promotion versus the hell she has to go through in planning what would have been HER dream wedding for her ex and her best friend. I seriously don’t know how Poppy managed to keep her wits about her without wanting to tear the bride-to-be’s hair out and/or knee the groom-to-be in the junk…I mean, in my opinion, she had ever right to cause a scene, throw a fit, or even ruin their wedding, but there was too much to lose when it came to her career, so she did the only thing she could, which proves just how classy and quite a bit sassy she is.
Overall, I enjoyed Poppy and Leo’s story, and even though, I’m used to Carmen Jenner’s darker and grittier reads, she definitely understands the components that are needed in a romantic comedy and she infuses those characteristics into the storyline of Cake.
