3.5
I’m definitely intrigued by everything Dominic and Laiken! They’re like magnets and lightening to metal all at once explosive.
This seemed to be drawn out at first, but it was more of a build up to their relationship dynamics.
Though I didn’t care for the way this ended on a cliffhanger, I’m dying to jump into book two!
Suspense, kidnapping, hacker, forbidden love
*Warning this book does end in a cliffhanger*
I started this book and finished it in one day. I just couldn’t put it down because I had to see what happened.
Laiken has grown up in a very sheltered life. All she has ever know is her family and the cabin that she lived in, surrounded by only nature. That all changed when she was 12 years old and was taken from her family and moved into a life she never wanted, all because of her father. When Laiken was forced into this new life the only “friend” she had was Dominic. Laiken never really changed her ways even though Annie tried to force her into a certain way of life. The only thing she did change was that she learned about new technology and ways of life through all the books that she read. The only thing keeping Laiken sane what hoping for the time when she could return to her family.
Dominic started off as a skinny 12 year old. He was the only friend that Laiken had until he was sent away to school. When he finally returned six years later a lot had changed. He was no longer the skinny boy but a hot, tall, and very muscular 18 year old. However, his looks were not the only thing to change. He no longer was the sweet kind kid that Laiken knew and wanted to return to help her. Dominic’s life was nothing like she thought it was and she was soon to find that out.
How will Laiken react to the way Dominic is now and will she be able to get over the surprises thrown at her?
Overall this book was amazing, sexy, hot and at times suspenseful. Nora did an amazing job with the story line and defiantly had some twists that I didn’t see coming. All the characters (main and secondary) had a way about them that made them seem real. The other thing is HOLY S**# what a cliffhanger!!!! I cannot wait to read more about Laiken and Dominic.
Laiken is a wild child in a gilded cage. Her free spirit can’t be contained by the fences that hold her hostage. She is determined to keep her promises and dream beyond the walls.
Dominic is a broken man hiding behind the walls he built around himself. While he has more physical freedoms than Laiken, he is forever chained to the past and his family, so is he truly free at all?
The first part of her Where We Began Duet, Nora builds the mystery and intrigue around these characters. I have so many questions and look forward to digging deeper into the layers of this story. I have been sucked into this journey, I can’t wait to see where these two will end up. Definitely worth a read
Just shy of a full 4 star,
This is an intriguing read where we find Laiken at age 12 being taken from her family as a bargaining chip to ensure her Farther does not go off the grid again. She is whisked away to a fancy house and on arrival the maids try to cut her hair but a promise to her sister has her fighting them, in steps Dominic her stops them and ensures they don’t try again. He is her only friend their and also the son of her captives a wealthy and ruthless couple her farther use to work with. Before going to Military school Dominic spends the 4 weeks trying to teach her of how real life really is after spending her life living off the grid with her family not knowing they were in hiding. Fast forward 6 years Dominic is back and not linger the almost 13 year old kid but a delicious piece of man and Laiken is still stuck in her Mansion prison, things are different now and everything starts to unravel and we are left wondering who to trust, what will happen next and will Laiken ever find home?! The only thing that bugged me really about this book as I felt both Laiken and Dominic should have been older when they meet again and they felt older when they do/say and act about many things but didn’t annoy me while I read as forgot that’s how old they were meant to be.
Hot and sexy Romantic Suspense – Book One of a duet.
The author of this book does it again, and I was grabbed by the plot and kept hostage for the entire length of the first book in this duet. How is it that Nora Flite can pull hotness and passion from the teeth of adversity – actually she is just that good!
Dominic and Laiken are two people whose lives reflect the secrets and lies of their parents, who were once apparently in the business of banking together, and, in book one of this romantic-suspense duet, the plot gets thicker and the romance gets hotter!
Her fate is wrapped in her father’s debt. Growing up in an idyllic and isolated spot in the forest, revelling in the close bond with her older sister, Laiken at 12, never questioned her father’s reasoning that there were no other people nearby because they didn’t understand the beauty of nature. She didn’t understand what was happening when people showed up to take one of his children, Laiken herself, away to live with them. Who was Joseph Laurel and what he done that one of his kids had to be taken hostage to control him?
Dominic was also 12 and had never been loved by his parents. Not knowing what it is that he’d ever done wrong, he still tried his best to gain their approval. Becoming friends with the new girl now living with his parents, Dominic enjoyed his month with her before being sent away to military school. Upon returning six years, he vows never to let them down – again. He’s certainly not Laiken’s childhood friend anymore, but he is one all gorgeous, muscled, tattooed and holy crap on a cracker HOT male! Even as he betrays Laiken to keep the approval of his parents, we see from his POV that he’s in deep, and knowing that when she finds out his secrets, she’s gonna hate him, he is still bound by his need for her.
After six years Laiken is still as isolated ever, and sees her sister again at a fabulous event hosted by her captors – shocked at the revelation that Kara and Dominic know each other. He’s kept his own secrets from her, but she’ll hear them from Kara, and they’ll devastate her.
She just may have been able to face her future with him, until her past comes bursting back in with a cold shoulder that she’ll never be able to lean on again. Where We Began ends in one hell of a cliff-hanger, but, don’t let it put you off. The next one isn’t far away, and it’s worth waiting for. 5 stars.
Great read by Nora!!!
Nora Flite is a phenomenal writer who brought Laiken and Dominic to life. This book is a two part series and the first part sucks your soul inside the book and won’t let it go. I’m on pins and needles waiting to read Where We Ended.
The moment I read the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it even though I knew it would end on a cliffhanger. It was mysterious with a suspense that made me want to know what this story was about. Laiken (such a unique name) was an innocent child taken away from her family. Dominic was her bright spot in a new scary world until he had to disappear from her life. Six years later they are back in each other’s life. Dominic is now hardened with secrets that he doesn’t want Laiken to know. Laiken, as she puts it is “Six years of limbo, that’s what you are looking at.” She has been strong and waiting patiently for the day she can be with her family again only to have that thought and more thrown at her like a bucket full of ice water on your head. I love Laiken! And even with Dominic’s so called secret out in the open (I definitely think this is more to this secret!) I like him too. I think him and Laiken are perfect for each other and can help each other find their love and happiness. I not so sure how I feel about Laiken’s sister. I want to like her but I have a feeling I’m really going to hate her before she can redeem herself (IF she can redeem herself). I need to read Where We End! I need these answers!! And I need to see Laiken’s HEA, defintely need to she her happiness.
