My life was what country songs are made of: my Granny died, my girlfriend broke up with me, I knocked up her cousin, and I was inducted into the Major League Hall of Fame. Yup…just like every country song I’ve ever heard. But let me start over… Crisp, and I had a front row seat and the inside scoop.
In a moment of grief and desperation, I allowed the Home Run King to…well, hit a home run on my diamond. He not only knocked it out of the park, but he also knocked me up.
Raising two babies—the one I was carrying, and Gage—wasn’t what I signed up for. But he gave me no choice. I only wish I hadn’t waited until the end of the season to see that he was my MVP.
Oh, and the only hall of fame he’s ever been inducted into is his own.

Stephie Walls and Leddy Harper are each alone two of my favorite authors. Especially when I am in the mood for a story that is one that i can get engrossed into the story while it builds. And when these two authors team up I know I am going to be put on an emotional roller coaster ride. Home Run King was that roller coaster ride. You have no choice but to fall for Gage Nix. I fell in love with him in Third Base, and that love of him continued on in his own book. The duel POV of the story was something that I loved, it allowed you to see that relationship from both Gage and Katie’s eyes. This book was one that had you laughing and moments that you wanted to smack some sense into the character. It was just the perfect mix for me. But of course I don’t expect anything less from these two authors.
OMG!!! If I could give this book 10 stars I would. I FLOVED this book!!!! It was funny and sad, heartbreaking and wonderful and did I mention funny. I haven’t laughed this much reading a book, since I last read a book by one of these authors I’m sure. I loved Gage and all his craziness and silly nicknames and ideas, but you knew down deep he was a wonderful, serious and loving guy. Katie was strong and stubborn and wonderful all at the same time. And Corrine, OMG we all need a sassy, adorable person like her in our lives. I hope there are more books from Stella in our future.
Let me start by saying I am in love with Gage Nix. I’m licking and claiming him as my own. This man made me laugh and swoon so damn much reading this book. Be prepared to want to keep him as your own (you can’t because he’s mine! but you will want to). The man is absolute perfection.
Gage has had a rough time lately. While his career as a baseball player is going from strength to strength, his personal life is another matter. Suddenly finding himself single and grieving for his granny, Gage spends the night with his granny’s nurse Katie, resulting in a surprise pregnancy. To make things even more uncomfortable Katie not only has ties to his ex but also hates his guts. Gage isn’t going to let a little thing like that stand in his way though and you’ve got to admire his determination to make things work. Gage is a big kid stuck in a mans body. He’s flirty, playful, immature and a little bit stupid…but his sweet, caring nature more than makes up for that. He’s going to make you laugh and roll your eyes in equal measure but he’s also going to make you fall in love with him.
I loved Katie. She’s sweet, caring, independent, doesn’t have a bad bone in her body but is far from a walkover, and there’s something about her that makes her very easy to like. The banter between her and Gage had me laughing out loud and Gages nick names were one of my favourite things about this book. He kills me with his sense of humour.
This is one of those books that I found really, really enjoyable to read. I don’t think I put it down once and I can’t recommend it enough. Funny, sweet and sexy with a man that’s going to make you love him…what more could you want? Go click this book! It’s so very, very good.
Stella certainly score a Home Run with this book. Following Third Base, I almost didn’t take a chance on it, however I really wanted to read Gage’s story. I’m glad I decided to give this book a chance, because I would have missed one amazing read if I hadn’t. It made me snort, giggle and downright laugh out loud with it’s witty banter, which always had Gage at the centre. Whilst his relationship with Katie is the love and romance part of this, his relationship with Corinne will also capture your heart. I just loved that little girl and her sage advice.
This is quite a long book, a good five to six hour read and it was one that I didn’t really want to put down. I had to when sleep and work got in the way, otherwise I would have read this in one sitting. I really liked Gage from seeing him in Third Base, you just knew he was something special. The more time I spent with him, just like Katie, the more I fell in love with Gage. He is the sweetest, kindest most caring man who hides that soft centre under a crispy shell because he is scared of being left behind. Katie had just as many issues and insecurities but somehow she and Gage blended together to make a perfect whole. They are both very likeable and finely crafted characters, and I felt connected to them and invested in them, their story and their HEA.
In some ways there isn’t a massive amount of plot, but the book held my attention throughout. It is a truly wondrous love story of two people finding their happily ever after against the odds. Katie and Gage face an awful lot of ups and downs both together and apart and I felt their emotion, their pain and their joy. The writing is excellent with just enough angst, turmoil and hurt to balance the comedy elements.
This is a book I am more than happy to recommend.
