“Oh my gosh, ladies, all the feels… all of them! This H is so determined and patient even though he’s been so hurt in his past. He healed her broken heart so beautifully, finally getting what’s he’s always wanted; his own family.” ~KerJustanotherbookwormI wasn’t supposed to be in town for long. Get in, get the job done, and get out.Easy. Simple. She was never supposed to happen, and her baby … supposed to happen, and her baby girl sure as hell wasn’t part of my plans. I didn’t need the complication and I certainly wasn’t planning on staying.
“Mommy’s scared, Ryan. Don’t leave.”
Five words. That was all it took for my life to change forever.
Check out what readers are saying about this sexy, sweet romance!

I first saw this book as it is a part of the “Then There Was You” anthology about single parents. I am a sucker for single parents, so after reading the description, I dove right in.
Heartbreaker is a novella that accompanies the Bulletproof Butterfly series by Anna Brooks. That being said, you really don’t need to have read the first book to follow along with it (although Heartbreaker did entice me to want to read Bulletproof Butterfly).
Opal became pregnant at 16. Tragedy struck her and her daughter, Olivia, right from the beginning. This made Opal hesitant about persuing any relationship. Until Ryan entered her life.
I really liked all the characters in the story. Opal was a wonderful mother, and Ryan- wow, he just took to Olivia so quickly and was the heart of this story- while being pretty alpha, drew me in. I also loved the relationship that Opal had with her brother-in-law, Jay.
Anna Brooks did a wonderful job with Heartbreaker. Despite it being a novella, it had a complete story, and one that I very much enjoyed!
(With shame on my face) I admit I’m 60+ and I just fell in love with a book boyfriend! Ryan is hot and relentless. And did I say HOT? Cute novella that I couldn’t put down!
I’m privileged to read this story in the THEN THERE WAS YOU collection!
Looking forward to reading more from this author.
OK I loved this one so much!!! I love insta love stories, and single parent so this was right up there for me. I’ve read Anna’s books before, and wow, I just loved it so much!!!!
I couldn’t put it down!
Opal and Ryan meet when they go to lunch and run into Ryan and they join in at the same booth. Olivia her daughter is taken with Ryan from the beginning.
Ryan saves Opal from a speeding car, and Ryan knows he shouldn’t feel this way about someone so soon but he can’t help it. He can’t stop thinking about her.
Olivia is in love with Ryan already, and makes him to come to her bday party. She’s so cute!
Opal doesn’t live in the best part of town, and Ryan is so worried about the two girls.
Man Greg is soooooo creepy!!!
Then the huge twist comes, and it was something I didn’t see coming at all. That goes to show how great of a writer Anna is cause it’s something so left field but it works with the story.
The sexy scenes were right on for these two, and it really showed their connection to one another.
I love that Ryan is so protective of Opal and Olivia just the same. I love when it’s insta love and he goes into protective mode!
Does Ryan find out what is going on next-door at Opal’s?
My fave quotes from the book:
1. I follow her out to her car and don’t look at her ass once. I do it about twelve times. – LOL!
2. And this fucker who asked about my little girl. Shit. Damn. Fuck. Olivia’s not mine. Fuck that. Yes, she is. – Oh Ryan, I love you so much!!!
I enjoyed Opal and Ryan’s story. There was so much backstory to them. They had to overcome so much to get to where they are. Will they stand in their own way? Don’t forget the suspense, I wasn’t expecting that!
I completely adore Anna Brooks’ writing, and this story is perfect. There were steamy scenes, heartbreak, healing, and falling in love. Anna touches base on an issue a lot of authors either overlook, or don’t give closure to, and it will draw you in and have the feeling the emotions Opal felt at that time. Ryan is perfect for her, and gives her the strength she needs to heal. A fantastic must read I would definitely recommend!!!
