Sweet, swooned alpha male and a heroine you can really root for. Add Tessa Bailey’s sharp, witty writing style and you get a terrific read!
I had such a great time reading The Getaway Girl. Addison is a hoot with very unique job which I enjoyed. Elijah is one sexy and very kind man. Damn he wooed me with his southern charm and his dirty mouth in bed. Their friendship evolves a great pace and their chemistry is palpable. What went on in Addison’s tiny Christmas apartment was definitely a highlight of mine. Them making Christmas ornaments and just enjoying each other’s company was wonderfully written. The pace slowed halfway through which made me loose attention from time to time but luckily it picked up again. This was my first book by Tessa Bailey and knowing now that Naomi will get her own book I definitely know which book of hers I’ll be reading next.
3.5-4 Goose And Captain Stars
A girl with a complicated past…
A captain with a great future ahead of him.. and a great one, behind him too.
I don’t know how Tessa Bailey does it, but she seriously delivered one heck of a story. Getaway Girl is flirty, funny and sexy wrapped in southern charm.
I love how Addison and Elijah cross paths. I love that we see how their relationship blossom from friends to lovers. Basically, I love how this story has the Bailey signature of heat, and let me tell you, it’s HOT, but it’s a refreshing view of the friends to lovers trope.
Getaway Girl is a standalone that will keep you entertain for hours. I not only loved it, I highly recommend it. If you’ve never read a Tessa Bailey novel… this a perfect introduction to her creative world.
Loved it! Sassy heroine and original plot.
Actual Rating 2.5
I really wanted to like this book. I got through most of it alright, but there was something that kept turning me off of this relationship. I could care less that Addison is Elijah’s ex-fiancee’s cousin. What I didn’t like is her immediate instalust and damn near falling in love with him at first sight. It would have been nice if Addison wasn’t immediately attracted to Elijah while she was ogling him standing at the altar. But whatever.
Addison and Elijah become real good friends. He has to hide his relationship with her because of the tabloids and reporters since Elijah is running for Mayor. The entire time Addison and Elijah are both lusting after the other. I have to say their sexual thoughts were awkward as hell and very corny. I couldn’t get into the possibility of a relationship with them, especially with all of Addison’s insecurities. (view spoiler)
So I wanted to like this book, but I really couldn’t do it.
OMG. THIS BOOK WAS FREAKING AMAZING!
I’ve read a few books by Tessa Bailey before, and while I liked them (3 and 4 stars each), I didn’t LOVE them. I’ve met Tessa, and she’s delightful. She’s super sweet and totally down to earth. My bff & blog partner is an uber fan, and I’ve always felt a little guilty when I saw Tessa at a book signing that I didn’t LOVE her books in the past. Admittedly, I haven’t read all of them…yet…but still, I felt like an imposter.
However, I can safely say that I freaking loved this book. Like, I couldn’t put it down loved it. There was something about it that kept calling to me. I started it, had to put it down and read a book I agreed to review but this one…it didn’t leave me alone. So, I finally went back to it and I’m super glad I did.
I loved watching Elijah and Addison become friends and eventually fall for each other. I loved watching them just “be normal” together….spending time together, cooking dinner, watching TV…working on Christmas ornaments. They had such a great foundation of friendship, that I was waiting with bated breath for them to FINALLY kiss. And I wasn’t disappointed. That first kiss (amid other first) was freaking hot!
There’s wasn’t a lot of outside drama that derailed Elijah and Addison. I mean, yes, there was a little bit. But for the most part, it was them working through things and doing it together. I LOVED that. It takes a really talented author to be able to pull off the internal drama and doubts in a character/relationship without it getting annoying. I’ve read a lot of books where one (or both) character had doubts about the relationship, and their insecurity got the better of them, causing issue after issue an it just became annoying…but I didn’t find that here. I loved how Addison had doubts, but also had plans in the eventuality that things didn’t work out for her. She may have had doubts & insecurities, but she didn’t let that keep her from living her life with Elijah.
Oh, and I have to touch on the nicknames…They have to be done right for me to like them, or even tolerate them. But Tessa Bailey pulled off the impossible and made me love them. I’ll admit, there were a couple times that I had to remind myself of their real names when they were together because I thought of them as Goose and Captain. I loved seeing that between them.
This book was literally perfection from start to finish. I both couldn’t wait to get to the end and dreaded coming to the end. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the characters. This book was perfection and I can’t wait to go back and read it all over again!
So fantastic! Deliciously hot. Addison and Elijah had an genuine instant friendship that evolved into the most intense and astonishing love. Tessa Bailey is an amazing author and I love the journeys her books take me on. I can not recommend this enough.
This story had me laughing out loud so much I was convinced it was a rom-com but it’s not. The way Elijah and Addison’s relationship is with each other is amazing. Their jokes. Their teasing. It made me smile. It made me laugh. I loved it.
So this story begins with Addison entering the church to crash her cousin’s wedding. She is thrown off hilter when she sees the groom, who is the most handsome man she has ever seen. When she witnesses him getting ditched at the alter she quickly exits and again witnesses him exiting. For some unknown reason, she is drawn to this man and offers him a ride. Thus beginning their amazing story.
OMG what a story. Don’t know what I was expecting but this book surpassed anything I could have imagined. Tessa Bailey is so talented and her books are amazing. Elijah and Addison were the perfect couple. Their relationship was so beautiful. Although Addison did not come from the same background as him she was his perfect mate. She made him feel real and not the person everyone expected him to be. He thought what he had with Naomi was love but what he found with Addison was so much more and it was real. Not something that was supposed to be because of his position. He never knew what real love and a relationship was until Addison. Yet he was afraid of it. Addison allowed him to be the person not even himself knew. She uncovered his darkest desires and they shared them together. Something he never had with anyone else. They were a match made in Heaven. Getaway Girl is such a beautiful, romantic story that will make you unable to put down. Once again Tessa Bailey amazes her readers with a 5+ star story you don’t want to miss.

*I was gifted this ARC and freely give my review of it*
Wow, I absolutely love the bubble butt hero and dirty talking heroine, Addison and Elijah is hot, fun and different from the usual couples in romance books.
What I liked:
* The chemistry between Addison and Elijah is coming through in the story from the beginning.
* No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* Fun and entertaining dialogues and just the right amount of dialogues
* The love scenes is spectacular and surprising and the intensity is making me blush.
* I liked that both characters reflected over their actions and still couldn’t keep away from each other.
* Master bedroom and and axe scene….oooh I love that…..on so many levels, the intensity and it’s proof that Elijah understands the significance of something for Addison that men normally don’t get. Admit it people, men and women don’t think alike in some situations.
* So many feelings, and for me to not spoil this book for anyone I have to shut up now.
One more thing; even though I received an ARC of this book I bought it too because this author will have my support so she can keep writing her enjoyable stories.
“You nailed it again” Tessa Bailey……..from one of the babes….. 5 stars
You know what I love about Author Tessa Bailey? She always delivers! I really loved Getaway Girl!!!
Addison & Elijah’s story is sweet, funny, steamy, and thoroughly entertaining…
A jilted at the altar, friends to lovers book that mustn’t be missed!
Highly recommend this author and book!
Oh my gosh. Coming up with the right words to describe my love for this book is so difficult. The amazing Tessa Bailey has been hinting about her bubble-butt hero on her Facebook group for months and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on him! I got an “early” copy of this book at Apollycon this weekend and had to stop myself multiple times from reading it right away. I knew if I opened the book, I won’t stop until I finished and I had Apollycon events to go to. However, once I got home and settled, I grabbed Getaway Girl and a cup of tea and basically didn’t get off my couch until I finished it. And I adored every minute of the read. Addison and Elijah are my new favorite characters. I cannot express how much I love them.
Okay, gushing over. Now I’ll focus on why this book is my top of 2018 already. This is a friends to lovers romance. Addison crashes her cousin’s wedding to Elijah in time to see him being left at the altar. She offers him a ride and thus becomes the “Getaway Girl”. To be honest, I was a little concerned this book would turn into a “run away from your problems road-trip” which sometimes can annoy me. However, to my delight, Elijah basically crashes at Addison’s place for a night and then goes back to face his new reality. But with a new friendship. Addison, who is in Charleston after her grandma’s death, has a harsh family history and reputation hanging over her head. Elijah, in contrast, is the darling of Charleston and is running for mayor. Addison becomes his escape from life in the public eye and Elijah becomes her support for changes she makes in her life. Both fight their attraction to each other to avoid ruining their friendship. But when they do give in, wow, do sparks fly. Tessa Bailey has always been the absolute queen of dirty-talking heroes. And Elijah does his fair share of dirty-talking. However, it’s Addison who really has the hot mouth. And her appreciation of Elijah’s thick bubble-butt, which he is self-conscious about, is just perfect. I don’t blame him for being self-conscious, I would be too if my butt had it’s own Twitter! As you can see, Tessa interjects humor into the sensuality of this story.
There were moments in this book that made me cry. There were moments that made me stop and screenshot parts to Tessa’s Facebook group because I wanted to share the humor. When I finished the book, I honestly hugged it to my chest. And then I went and bought a copy for my friend’s birthday so she can share in its total awesomeness. This book just had so much heart and heat. It truly touched me and I can not share enough how much I loved it. If Getaway Girl is the only romance novel I read for the rest of my life, I would die happy. Stop everything and read it now!
I loved this book so hard! The relationship between Addison and Elijah was freaking HOT from the minute he got in her car at the church. Addison was an awesome chick who found her other half in a stranger she rescued from his failed wedding. Elijah was a proper gentleman with a big ol badonkadonk that found his other half when he left the church after being stood up at the altar. Even though they were friends for a while after they met you could feel the sexual tension between these two. And you just knew that when they finally got together there were going to be freaking fireworks! And boy were there! The sex was so hot and dirty it was fabulous! Elijah is quite the dirty talker which surprised even him since he didn’t realize he had it in him but only Addison brought this side out in him. This book was sooooo good and I definitely recommend reading it. I know I will be doing a re read in the not s distant future!
