I’ve not read any other book in this series so it was nice to start with Book 1. Amelia Rose brings us the modern day version of a mail order bride including having the groom not be looking to marry and his father making all of the arrangements. This collection contains the stories of Casey, Carey and Joseph, the three oldest of the six Carson brothers. The first bride, Miranda, arrives with her younger sister and fleeing an abusive relationship in Newark. To say that Casey was less that welcoming would be a gross understatement. Learning to Love tells their story. Searching for Love is the story of Carey and Amy, a tourist who comes to the ranch for an authentic western experience on a cattle drive. Things don’t go quite as planned. This book contains humor, romance and more than a little danger. The third book, Counting on Love, is the story of Joseph and Emma. This is one that I know Bernard Carson never saw coming when he decided his older sons needs to marry. This one is an excellent story of forgiveness. I really enjoyed these books.
‘Learning To Love’
A good story overall. The characters are likeable if not relatable as well. I had a problem with feeling torn between it being a contemporary western vs. historical. I mean who takes a train then a bus to get somewhere? It is not cost effective overall and there are not many buses that go to remote areas like this one. The way the letter was worded was awkward for today. After the way Casey treated Miranda to begin with the couple’s turn around was so sudden with nothing supporting the change. After the turn around, the story evened out and became more plausible.
Valerie Gilbert did fabulous job narrating.
‘Searching For Love’
I really liked concept of this story. The follow thg through needs a little work. Who would want to get married after working hard for 2 days on the trail putting on a wedding dress without a chance to take s shower and clean up? I’m not the least fastidious but yuck. Anyway, this story ended with lots of loose ends. How did the rest of the cattle drive go? Anymore incidents? It takes only as 4 hours to go from Cancun to the Cattle Drive? What happened when everyone got back from the cattle drive? The DEA arrive and the couple goes off by themselves with no explanations? What happened with the two girls and the schoolteacher?
The story just ended, without tieing up any of the loose threads.
Valerie Gilbert did another excellent job narrating.
‘Counting On Love’
By far the best story of the series thus far. The characterization is spot of. The storylines left nothing hanging. All the actions and reactions are supported.
Joseph and Emma, two hurting people attempting to get over devastating events in each of their lives. Joseph found his healing in great part in Emma. Emma has found someone who can live her for who she is now. I still feel Emma’s vulnerability but the tide has turned.
Valerie Gilbert did another amazing job. She is so clear and brings it all to life. If I were to critique anything it would be pausing just a moment more when the is a time lapse or scene change.
I recieved a free Audible copy of this story in exchange for a honest review.
