Former prosecutor and now hot-shot defense attorney, Jackie DelRay, is a star in the shark-infested judicial waters of Washington, DC. Behind her take-no-prisoners façade, she hides a painful secret and a longing for FBI Special Agent Beckett Pearson-the man who captured her heart during a passion-filled weekend in college. The same man who still holds a grudge over a case Jackie refused to … prosecute years before. When Beck is arrested for the shocking murder of the FBI director’s estranged wife, Jackie breaks every rule she’s known about being emotionally involved with her client. Knowing the risks to her heart and her career, she rushes to defend him.
A former model and football star, Beck has finally found his home with the Bureau. He wants nothing to do with the sexy lawyer who left him without a goodbye twelve years ago and then destroyed his first, and most important, missing persons investigation. Now, with his freedom on the line, Jackie’s brilliant legal mind may be his one hope at staying out of prison.
When their investigation is mired by political alliances and reckless greed, Beck and Jackie battle corruption at the highest levels. That battle includes resisting the long-buried passion they’d shared twelve years earlier. But will a killer bent on stopping their investigation give them a fight they are bound to lose?

Loved this entire series.
Perfect blend of romance and suspense!
With just the right blend of romance and suspense, the writing team of Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano once again delivers another fabulous read! Add the fact that this is a second chance romance and I knew I wouldn’t be able to put this one down.
Beck and Jackie were both great characters and worked so well together. Their past hasn’t left them on the best of terms with each other, but the attraction that burned hot on their first meeting is something that neither of them can forget. I loved how strong and driven Jackie was. She didn’t think twice when it came to rushing to help Beck, despite their past. Beck was such an interesting character and I loved that he practiced holistic medicine and was very health-oriented – not something you normally see from a hero. And he’s the total package when it comes to a hero – hot, alpha, and skilled.
Like the other books in this series, the authors take the reader on the journey with the characters, uncovering clues and information as the story progresses, really making you feel like you are along for the ride. I also loved that they were able to do that with the relationship between Beck and Jackie as well – since they have a shared past we get to learn about their meeting and events in between, and I loved how that worked.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Justice Team book without getting spend at least a little time with some of the characters from other books in the series. I just can’t imagine a book without getting to learn what crazy t-shirt Mitch is wearing or what crazy stuff might be coming out of his mouth!
This was a fast-paced read that was easy to get into and stay with from start to finish. The writing between the two authors is seamless, and together they have such a wonderful writing style and voice that everything, from the plot, to the dialogue, to the pacing, blended perfectly.
Another great read I would highly recommend to anyone!
Defending Justice by Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano is a winner in my favorites list. Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone without any confusion. I confess that I love this series and these two authors are powerful together.
Jackie and Beck are an amazing couple together. She is strong, determined and a shark in judicial circles. Beck has found a home in the FBI as part of a Missing Persons team. His family history has kept him on the straight and narrow most of his life. He’s also into holistic healing, herbal teas and healthy foods. They are the flip-side of the typical romance suspense genre. I loved it because they compliment each other and that makes it work for me. The plot was fast paced and complex as they search for the killer. There were so many possibilities as to why the victim was killed as well as who did the deed. I made many guesses and they were all wrong.
I loved seeing Mitch Monroe stop by a couple of times. His t-shirts always make me laugh, as well as his attitude. It was also good seeing Teeg and Grey who rock at cyber investigations.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
Jackie DeRay is leaving her post in Washington DC as a defense attorney to do something she swore she would never do. Defend someone she was emotionally tied to. But when FBI Special Agent Beckett Pearson is arrested for a murder, Jackie wants to defend him. There is that little matter of the case Jackie refused to prosecute when she was a prosecutor and Beckett wanted her to. There is also that little stunt of a fling they had in college during a weekend. Neither one lets the other one know how they feel. Will this case bring those feelings back? Can Jackie successfully defend Beckett? Will the real murderer be found, if so how? The killer is just as determined to stop them. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. The review is of my own opinion.
The Justice Team is back! Defending Justice is my favorite book of the outstanding series, so far. The chemistry between Jackie and Beckett is so perfect, from steam to tears, from laughter to exasperation, they bring it all. When highly intelligent but smart-mouthed defense lawyer Jackie Beckett hears that Beckett Pearson has been arrested and hasn’t been offered his call for a lawyer, an old connect pushes her to come to the rescue. The last person Beckett wants to see walk through that door is the lawyer who blocked prosecution of the only case he has failed to close. Fast paced action, hot moments, and tons of fun accompany them as they race to find the true murderer with a little help from our favorite under super team.
