Overview: Five demonic leaders threaten the world as a group of heavenly warriors race to unlock their evil plan and defend humanity against their growing army in “Light’s Eyes (Light in the Darkness Book 2)” by Yvette Bostic.
“Light’s Eyes” opens up an exciting and perilous new chapter in the back and forth battle of forces present in the Light in the Darkness Series. On both sides of the fence, rich characters with complex backstories, heightened strengths, diverse skills, and individual goals populate this novel, and while Bostic monopolizes well on all these aspects, they all blend well into the overall tapestry of the ultimate battle of Good vs. Evil.
With Darian’s training now complete, and his mentorship over Cyrus deemed a success, Author Yvette Bostic focuses her main cast of characters (Mikel, Raphael, Angelina, Magdelin, Juann, and Eli—just to name a few) on much higher aspirations and goals as they delve into a brazen new pattern of behavior coming from the sibling-leaders of the defeated lord, Zar-Asur. While the overlords remain intent on spreading over continents and growing their demon hoard for—as of yet—unknown purposes, the heavenly forces are forced to find new recruits—those gifted and mundane—to assist in their efforts to preserve humanity.
Bostic’s plotline is rife with action, including back-and-forth skirmishes and bloody confrontations between the forces of good and evil. Possession and torture act as tools of the trade for the demons, while friendship, romance, love, and hope spur the heavenly forces onward in their battle to save the world.
This novel does contain graphic violence and mild adult situations. I highly recommend this fantasy novel for ages 15 and up.
I am well into this series now and I read this book in such a short space of time that I surprised myself, but I just wanted to know what would happen next! This is good vs evil with a different slant and I loved how this book begins to raise the stakes. You can feel the events building up as things begin to unravel and the characters of both sides try their hardest to stay ahead, but the enemy is growing stronger and I get the distinct nailbiting notion that things could go very wrong for the heroes in book 3. This is a really worthy sequel to book 1 and I’d recommend this to anyone looking for adventure! You will not be disappointed!
This book follows on nicely from the previous one. Interesting new characters are introduced and you learn a little more about the existing ones. The pace is perfect. There is enough action to keep you reading yet it is not always ‘go go go’. The scenes are well described, allowing you to easily picture them in your mind. While this one continues to follow the one main character, the supporting characters are well represented as well. What makes these books stand out from others is the little scenes and conversations that aren’t really needed for the story, but help you get to know and understand the people better. I can’t wait to read book 3.
Starting off in a superhuman battle, Light’s Eyes starts exactly where book one left off. Except now, the battle is shifting. The light is beginning to lose, and they must scramble to not only gather intel on the new demonic forces but also must begin the long process of healing from the previous battle. This next wave of battle is far from over but the tactics on both sides change dramatically until the suspense is nearly overwhelming. It’s not all fighting and death though, there is also love, courage, and friendship laced throughout which makes the story all the more compelling.
The fight scenes are very well-written, and the worldbuilding is excellent. I will definitely be moving onto book three soon.
