Ryan Stone was once called a leader of men. But since leaving the military minus two fingers and a good chunk of his thigh, he’s barely seen or spoken to a human in nearly a year. In the mountains of Wyoming, he’s more than happy with his solitary, off-the-grid lifestyle. So when a certain interfering and crazy-hot photojournalist drops back into his life, he’s shaken by memories of another time … time and place.
Livvy has survived under extreme conditions to capture the best stories on film. But one battle-zone moment haunts her the most, and she has no choice but to track down the Marine who saved her life. Knocking on the door of his Wyoming cabin to make sure he’s alive is the right thing to do after no one’s heard from him in a year. Not even a glimpse of the recluse’s tangled hair and beard will drive her off the mountain, especially after she finds he could use some rescuing too—from himself.
The last thing Ryan needs is a woman who wants a piece of his future when he doesn’t even have a grip on his past. If she isn’t making him pack up the mountain to rescue a struggling homesteading family, she’s tormenting him with her good cooking… and curves. One thing’s certain, both are too stubborn to give up or give in. And that could just manifest as his worst fear—that nobody else could be so right for him.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is so steamy and emotional.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters are so well written they just suck you right into the story and hold you there. Ryan was a soldier in Afghanistan and Livvy was a photographer working on a story when they met. They were both more than half in love with each other but hadn’t really acted on it when Ryan ended up saving Livvy’s life… at a life-altering cost for both. A year later, Livvy decides she has to check up on Ryan and thank him for saving her. But Ryan hasn’t been handling life very well since that day and it’s shocking for her to see his living conditions and his new way of life.
I have to admit, this story was hard to read because I know vet’s who have gone through similar events and are in comparable conditions. I am not ashamed to admit I cried a bit while reading this book. It’s an eye-opening look at some vet’s lives and yet it also leaves you hopeful that they can get the help they need to help. In whatever manner works for them.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked both the characters, from their good parts to the bad.
My heart felt like it was on a roller coaster when it came to Ryan Stone. One minute he broke my heart and all I wanted to do was cuddle him and then the next moment he would do something dumb and I would want to throat punch him. After a tough mission, Ryan decided that he would like to live a simpler life so he heads up to the mountain away from civilization. A year later the one person who could shake up that quiet world shows up at his door. He tries everything to get her to leave but the pull is too strong.
I loved that character of Livvy, so much so I was a little envious of her. This woman was fearless. She was someone who has seen some of the worst of the worst and yet she was a very happy and carefree type of person. She seemed like someone I would want to hang around with. I like that she was kind and warm to Ryan but yet was willing to call him on some of the things he said or did. I admired her!!
I really enjoy this series!
Thank you – enjoyed the series very much
Livvy is a photographer with itchy feet, she travels over the world experiencing places we can only dream about. I loved that she immersed herself in the culture of each Country. She met Ryan in a war zone, he saved her life and vanished. Living off the grid in the middle of nowhere he is a hard man to find but Livvy is determined to see if he is ok.
I enjoyed their relationship, the attraction and yet denial. Both physically and emotional injured but love finds a way. The story and setting was magnificent, I had to google this state to see if it were true. The characters were interesting and real and it all made an entertaining read.
I loved this unique story! A different, wilder, more raw setting for another very sexy, very passionate book by Em Petrova. Absolutely loved this one; maybe my favourite in the series so far! The characters really came to life and their chemistry was lighting up the pages. Fantastic writing as always, and a pleasure to read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
WOW! I just loved this book. The characters were very strong and believable. The plot flowed beautifully. The book just captured my attention from the beginning and it was a hard one to put down. Ms. Petrova writes wonderfully stories and this was not exception. I loved having this great series continue and seeing the prior characters of the Roshannon family make appearances. This is a wonderful story and I highly recommend this to anyone who loves strong independent characters. I really hated to see this end!
“Something About a Mountain Man” (Wild West Series Book 4) by Em Petrova is a great read. I loved Ryan and Livvy’s story. This story is packed with action, passion, military, veteran, adventure, close friends, overcoming tragic events, new beginnings, and more. This was a great addition to the Wild West Series. I hope we get more from the wonderful characters in this series in the future. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, military, and series.
Livvy is a journalist and Ryan saved her life while he was serving. She was there to do a photo shoot. They were both injured. She went back to her job and he went to the mountains.
Livvy has been searching for him ever since. She has finally found him. Now she just needs to convince him he needs her.
