This is another very enjoyable Regency romance by Tarah Scott. It is a well written story with an interesting and intriguing storyline. Ms. Scott did a great job of developing wonderful characters with depth and great personalities. The witty back and forth banter between Anne and Kennedy was so much fun to read and added a good amount of humor to the story. It was well paced and had enough intrigue and plot twists to keep me turning the pages. It was a very entertaining and enjoyable read!

Sir Sterling is at it again with his matchmaking successes! This time he looks toward Kennedy Douglas, Viscount Buchanan to make a match with Anne, daughter of a Viscount. Anne is in dire straights when her father dies and leaves his family in debt with creditors banging on the door. She has attended Lady Peddington’s School and hopes that will help her snag a wealthy, preferably on his deathbed husband.
Kennedy had not wanted to marry until an edict from his dying father that he marry and produce an heir or he will marry his sister off to a villian. Now he is matched to the beautiful Anne, and he has to act fast.
A really fun read and to see these two come together and battle the villians was amazing!
Pluses and Minuses
I read a lot of Regency, so I’ve seen my share of marriage of convenience stories. This one definitely felt a little different, which is always fun. Our hero has been estranged from his father for a long time. But when his father is on his deathbed, he makes a demand that his son cannot refuse because of its impact on somebody else he cares about. I thought some of the setup, like when the hero and heroine first meet at the Midnight Ball without knowing who each other is, felt contrived—or at least more contrived than these things normally are. I think the author did it to try to set up some early problems for them in their marriage, but it seemed kind of pointless to me; time could have been better spent on the rushed later part of the story. I did enjoy the back and forth between this couple. She is no Mary Milquetoast that’s for sure. Even though this is a relatively short novella, I actually think the author did a good job showing how the hero in particular changed in his feelings toward the heroine. It was shown as well from the heroine’s side. The resolution of the sister’s arc was a bit too neat and tidy, and I also felt the book ended abruptly. I actually think this story would have been better served by being a novel rather than a novella as there was a lot going on here. That said, I enjoyed the story enough to stay up reading when I should have gone to bed. That says something!
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Part of Rules of Refinement Book Four/The Marriage Maker eight series. A well written story that held my interest until the end. Viscountess Anne Kinsley, and Kennedy Douglas, Viscount Buchanan’s story it has mystery, suspense, drama, steamy and romance. I enjoyed reading. Lady Anne, Viscountess Kinsley, needs a wealthy husband because her father lost everything but their home, then drank himself to death. Now the creditors are ready to take their home from them and leave her mother and young sister with nothing. She hopes to find a husband through Lady Peddington’s School for Young Ladies, but vicious gossip about her makes her undesirable as a wife.
Kennedy Douglas, Viscount Buchanan, has made it known that he does not wish to marry. Therefore, his dying father gave him an ultimatum. He had one week to marry with the sole intention of producing an heir. Otherwise, his father would arrange for the marriage of his young sister at age 16 to a cruel man known for being a wife-beater. To enforce his wishes, his father sent his sister against her will to some place Kennedy would never find her.
Kennedy receives a surprise visit from Sir Stirling James, the Marriage Maker. If he is willing to marry Lady Anne, both of them will have a solution to their dilemmas. But Kennedy’s father is worsening and, if he dies, no one will find where Kennedy’s sister is being held. Can he save her in time?
I enjoyed this story. It had a great deal going on and a steady suspense to keep the reader eagerly following the plot. The characters were well-portrayed, and the pacing was good. Grab your copy and see what is in store for the characters put under such pressure. Can happiness come out of such dire circumstances?
ONE INTRIGUING ADVENTURE!!!
Outstanding! Tarah dispenses a refreshing approach, targeting the aristocrats of the ton and blowing it wide open, throwing it into a frenzy with a life altering, mind-blowing culmination. A raging tempest of inexplicable events and stirring circumstances, propel those churning emotions into play, binding this baby together piece by piece. Unveiling a foray of drama, intrigue, turmoil, tension, evil machinations, mounting suspense and unexpected situations, along with a boatload of trouble, while dodging calamity, you have one block busting adventure. Bumbling through the trials and tribulations, unimaginable twists and shocking turns blasts this bad boy to life spectacularly. The characters and their on point personalities are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that blend and flow. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there with them instead of on the sidelines. Remarkable job Tarah, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

When Anne meets Kennedy at the Midnight Ball, he propositions her for a night. Unfortunately Anne is only interested in a situation that would take care of her mother and sister, following the death of her father. Needless to say, they did not hit it off that night and until the morning of their wedding, neither knew who their spouse was going to be.
Their marriage was arranged by his father, a union that came about under duress on his part. It is not possible to like Marquess, he is a diabolical man.
Great characters.
What a strong character Anne is she knows what she must do does not like it but will do what she must. Kennedy, on the other hand, is being forced into something he does not want but must to protect his sister Rose. The villain of the piece is Kennedy’s father The Earl of Buchanan a truly rotten person too. For such a quick read this one has a great deal of action, its quick pace will keep you reading till the very end. I hope you check this one out I think you will be happy if you do. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
She needs money, a lot of it, He needs a wife fast so they marry. Anne’s father had left them nothing but property, which takes money to run and make it profitable again to secure her mother’s and sister’s future. He must marry and have a son within a year or his sister will be forced to marry a man that beat his first wife to death. This how Anne and Kennedy came to marriage, but will it work?

This is book eight in The Marriage Maker Series. This entire series can be read in order or each read as a stand alone. I have found each book in this series to be a pretty good book, although, as with every series, some are better than others. That being said, I haven’t been disappointed in any of the books I’ve read in this series. The books are also fairly quick reads as well and you can usually finish one in about a day. They’re great if you’re looking for a light read that has a happily ever after.
Lady Anne needs a wealthy husband, and quickly. But the gentlemen who had fawned over her the night of the first ball at Lady Paddington’s school for girls now avoided her. But, if she doesn’t find a husband, or, if nothing else, a protector, she, her mother and younger sister will be left destitute and lose their home. But how does one go about finding a wealthy husband, and, if not a husband, a protector?
Kennedy Douglas, the Viscount Buchanan, truly had no idea how merciless his father could be. At least not until his father gave him a week to marry and produce an heir or he would marry Kennedy’s young sister off on her sixteenth birthday. When Kennedy confronts his father, his father tells him he has sent his sister away somewhere where he wouldn’t be able to find her.
As Kennedy is preparing to start a search for his sister, he receives an unexpected visit from Sir Stirling James. Sir Stirling has a solution to Kennedy’s problem. Sir Stirling’s solution will not only help Kennedy, but it will help Lady Anne as well. If the Marriage Maker can get them to marry, that is.

A forced marriage ends up being the path the love!
After a disastrous first meeting, Anne and Kennedy find themselves facing each other at the altar in a marriage arrangement that ensures she will get the finances necessary to save her ancestral home and provide for her widowed mother and young sister. Kennedy’s motivation for the marriage is much more sinister – to force him to settle down and beget an heir, his father kidnapped his sister and has hidden her away until a son is born to Kennedy.
Kennedy is a good man with a truly awful father. His focus is divided between getting to know his new wife and searching for his missing sister. I loved the development of his character, and how Anne is so much more than he thought when he first met her. Anne is really the selfless hero of this story, and she deserves every bit of happiness she gets in their HEA.
It’s a terrific story with just enough steamy love scenes and a harrowing rescue in the conclusion. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This was a short read for me. I did enjoy the story I wished it was a little longer. The characters meshed fairly well. My only wish is that there was more to the story. This book was provided to me by NetGalley for a honest review.
