Standing on the balcony, outside my boss’s apartment, wearing only my underwear? Not how I expected to start my Saturday morning. I guess I should’ve thought harder about going home with my sexy new gym instructor, especially since I had no idea the guy was married. When he pushed me outside five seconds before his wife walked through the door, I jumped one balcony over. I thought it would be … over. I thought it would be less embarrassing for a total stranger to find me than his wife.
That was a smart move.
So here I am, wearing next to nothing and freezing my ass off, staring through the living room window at my young, sexy, and very intimidating boss, Chase Winston.
I have two choices: I can sit here and try to think of another way out of this and risk dying of hypothermia. Or I can suck it up and knock on that window.
After a long, internal argument with myself, I choose option two.
Here goes nothing…
Awkward Love is a series of sexy, fun novels that can be read in ANY order. Each book is COMPLETELY seperate from the next, so you can read one, or you can read them all

Another 5 star addition to this addictive and funny series that I’ve consumed in 2 days. I love how each story is different and there’s something for everyone. I Can Explain has everything I’ve come to expect from this author – humour, passion, love and more. Another recommended read!
I just loved this book. It is a rare author that can make you laugh out loud at 11 pm while laying in bed reading. Loved the characters, loved the dialogue, beyond original in humor. Highly recommend to all. Made me go out and get all her other books. LOVE when I find a new author!
For adult readers.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series which is why this one was such a disappointment. There are the steamy sex scenes and a possible good story in there, but it drags. The whole first half of the book just drags along waiting for something, ANYTHING to happen. Chase and Alana dance back and forth at work with flirting, while she is constantly self doubting. They’ve both been burned in past relationships. It goes on and on until it just get old. This book is not for me.
This book was steamy and had funny scenes. The balcony scene was hilarious. Alana and Chase made a cute couple. This is the second book in the series. I recommend this book for anyone who likes steamy and funny stories.
I received an arc and am voluntarily leaving a review.
4 Chasing Stars!!!
This is the second book in Missy Johnson’s Awkward Love series. The couple was just as awkward as the first couple. It didn’t take me long to finish once I started it.
Alana is assistant to the assistant to her boss Chase. She hates her job. Alana knows she’s better qualified then to spend all day picking up her jerk boss shirts, coffee and all useless things. But, she stays bc he’s the best at his job and she just wants the chance to learn from him and not just learn how he takes his coffee.
Alana has a moment of weakness in the office and starts going off to her coworker and best friend. While she thinks he’s a pompous ass, she’d still like to go a couple rounds in the sheets with him. Alana realizes her boss is standing right behind her and heard her whole rant.
Yikes, if that’s not bad enough it continues to get worse for her. Alana’s trainer Jake from her gym asked her out and she agreed. She figures what’s one night to just let loose. One night won’t kill her. Alana gets down to her bra & panties and Jake’s wife comes home. If the fact he was married didn’t shock her, next thing she knew she’s getting pushed into his balcony in middle of the freezing night and left to freeze to death. Alana decides she can go back into his apartment or jump to the neighbors balcony and shock them and never see them again. Except the person who answers the door is no other then her boss.
Chase has worked hard to get where he’s at. He worked so hard that he drove his wife into the arms of his brother. The past few years have been hard. He’s trying to get past it. Chase works long hours. He doesn’t date, but he’s not celibate either.
When Chase opens his balcony door to see Alana in her tiniest underwear set she probably owns he’s thinking he’s being punked. He promised her he won’t bring it up again but he just can’t help himself. When he lets his assistant go he give the job to Alana.
Their chemistry is thru the roof. When they cross the line of boss/assistant, Alana puts the brakes on. She doesn’t want to be an office Romance gone wrong. Chase and Alana start spending more time together and they’re both catching feelings that they never thought they’d catch. Things aren’t that easy. When Chase’s brother comes knocking on his door asking for a favor he agrees to it. It’s his brother and only family and won’t make him do it alone. The catch he has to bring Alana. He lies to get her there and the lies start coming out and Chase might loose the one person he loves before he truly realized it.
I loved Chase. Even though he was a jerk in the beginning and lied to Alana at the end. His actions spoke louder then anything else. The fact that Alana played SO many mind games with him and he took them all in stride. And, even after his brother did the unthinkable he was still willing to help him without a question even though he knew what would happen to him.
Alana I liked for half the book and the other half I didn’t. She claimed she didn’t want a relationship with Chase. Then get mad at him in the next sentence. She was like a dude with the mind games she played. But, she was there when Chase needed her.
I’m looking forward to the next few books that are releasing in this series. Bc, they def have me laughing out loud.
This book was such a fun read.
I loved that it hooked me until the end. Missy did a great job with the story line and the characters. She made this story a short(ish) fun, sexy, and at times funny read.
Alana is a smart, and independent women with a College degree doing work that is way below her expertise. She continues doing it hoping to move up in the company. The only problem she has is her boss and owner of the company hasn’t/doesn’t see her for the intelligent women she is.
Chase Winston is a smart, hot alpha, that has not always had it easy. He has had a few rough patches in his life but his business is not one of them. He worked his a## off to make it to the top and he likes it that way. However, he doesn’t want to be in a relationship because of what happened with his ex-wife and younger brother. Then, he over hears Alana in the office and become intrigued with her. Afterwards, thing start to change because all he can think about is her and her comments.
Will Chase finally see Alana for what the benefit to the company she could be or will he see her for more than that?
Even though this the the second book in the Awkward Love series you do not need to read book one to enjoy I Can Explain. I can’t wait to see what Missy Johnson comes up with next.
I loved this book, it was funny and romantic. At times I wanted to knock heads together but other times my kindle was melting. Chase is the ultimate Alpha CEO and Alana is a spitfire with not the best luck when it comes to men. Come to her ending up on her boss’s balcony in her underwear when a date with his neighbor goes horribly wrong then you have a funny romance that one minute you are laughing out loud to the next minute you are fanning yourself. Great story and I loved the way the characters heated up. Great chemistry. Definitely a must read.
A ridiculously humorous and incredibly sexy contemporary romance that’s sweet and beautiful…
Missy Johnson is quickly becoming one of my top authors. I loved her darker side in Absolution, that book nearly killed me. However, I am head over heels for this sweeter and wittier side of her writing. This Awkward Love series is nothing short of brilliant. It’s Complicated was hot and sweet and I could not get enough of it. However, I Can Explain… has taken it up a whole notch.
The plot isn’t the most original with the whole billionaire boss trope and all. However, the twists in this story make it fresh and keep you on the edge of your seat. Is it predictable? In some ways yes, but even then you’re left second guessing your gut feeling. This story had me laughing and cursing and about ready to bust a cap in someone’s butt! There were some parts that were frustrating because I could see the fall out that was going to occur, but at the same time it had my heart melting because of the sentiment behind the decisions that were made. I liked that the romance despite all its ups and downs was straightforward. This is an office romance and the angst that comes with it makes it a great slow-burn. This plot had every potential of becoming a sleazy and trashy story, however the characters and the pacing made it beautiful and sweet and sexy and just plain freaking wonderful!
So the characters…Both Alana and Chase are really likeable characters. At first I was a little dubious of Chase, but his tongue in cheek really grew on me and I couldn’t resist his charm and wit. I did not expect him to be the man he was. By all accounts, even his own self deprecating ones, he is a womaniser and although he is strong and wealthy he is so down to earth behind all his self-protective bravado. He’s a bit of an enigma that unravels the farther into the story you get. He really is a sexy breath of fresh air. He’s a hero unlike many others I’ve come across. Likewise Alana is very grounded and although there were times where her insecurities made me want to b!tch slap her for her poor decision making…in the end I just down right wanted to snog the crap out of her. She is so freaking in your face and brash at times and by all means I should not have loved her as much as I did, but the way in which she stand her ground and doesn’t wait around for a guy to make the decisions. Loved it. I just love her guts…and her really inappropriate outbursts that had me laughing so hard I almost peed my pants!
All in all, I Can Explain… was A-MA-ZING! There were a few continuity blips that I am pretty certain were due to the fact that I read an unproofed advanced copy. However, none of it affected my reading experience. This book really is brilliant and I cannot wait for more of this series. I really hope there’s more. It’d be a sin for there not to be more of this Awkward Love going around!
Alana has been working at Chase’s company for two years and her job is going nowhere. When he overhears her talking about him, in a most unprofessional manner, she is suddenly on his radar. Before she knows it, she’s not only moved up the ladder of success – one tiny rung, but she’s sharing his bed.
Chase was once in a relationship that ended badly and he’s had a hard time getting over it. Now with the appearance of Alana in his personal life he hasn’t given a second thought to all of the drama that went down two years ago. He’s instantly captivated by her and all her quirky, tough girl determination. Now if he can just her the truth, perhaps what they’re building toward can become more.
I loved Chase and Alana! Their banter and take no prisoners attitude toward each other was so darn cute. Chase was constantly teasing and antagonizing her and after a few blushes and bumbles, she learned to give it back to him. The chemistry between them was hot and steamy and I wanted to see them move past the sex only and into a deeper relationship. I was totally invested in this couple.
I did struggle a bit with some of the other woman drama that took place, those things that were in his mind, and for that I deducted one star rating. Otherwise this was a wonderful fast read that hit the cute and charming factor at a hundred percent, and the angst just enough to keep the story moving. Perfect.
This is my honest and willing review for an advanced reader copy provided by the author.
I Can Explain is a feel good romance with witty banter and hot sex! I loved Alana and Chase! Both were so adorably cute! Alana is a junior assistant to Chase. She has a crush on him and embarrasses herself in front of him constantly! I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time, like I seriously choked on air laughing so hard! Alana’s escapades are embarrassing for her and hilarious for us. Chase finally noticed Alana after she says some pretty provocative things, then she shows up in her underwear outside his balcony after a crazy date.
Alana and Chase are just right for each other. Both have been cheated on and hurt in the past and both can’t seem to move on from that. After getting a romance started between each other it seems their exes get forgotten pretty easily. Then being asked to be the best man at his brother’s wedding to his ex-wife Chase quickly finds he has some problems. Alana has no clue and like every chick, ferrets out his secrets.
I loved the build up of Chase and Alana, they not only have scorching sexy times they also talk and get to know each other. It makes it that much more sweeter. They both go in knowing it won’t be casual and build a solid relationship that survives Chase’s secrets. If you are looking for a book that will give you butterflies and make you laugh, look no further than I Can Explain. You won’t be disappointed with it!
If you like the Boss / Employee Relationship trope I think you will enjoy this read. It’s a quick steamy read that can be read in just a few hours. I enjoyed that Alanna didn’t hold back when it came to what she wanted, she had been hurt in the past and that makes for some rash judgements but overall she is strong willed when it comes to getting what she wants especially when she finally gets noticed by her boss, Chase.
Chase, wow now there is a man that has been hurt by the two people closest to him so it’s no wonder that he doesn’t do relationships. He feels the attraction to Alanna but what really turns him is that she doesn’t just fawn over him, she truly gives him a run for his money.
As stated in the authors blurb, I Can Explain is the second book in the Awkward Love Series but this story can be read as a standalone and in any order because there is no common thread between the stories, they are only connected by the theme of Awkward Love.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book**
3.5 stars
Awkward Love is certainly the perfect name for this series, especially this book. Alana manages to get herself into some hilariously awkward situations right from the start. I liked both Chase and Alana and I enjoyed the banter between them, but while the chemistry and attraction are there in spades, I wasn’t quite won over on the love between this couple. The story is definitely steamy and we get plenty of rumination on both sides about how they each want something real, but it felt like every time things were headed in a serious direction, they ended up in bed. I can appreciate the strong attraction, but this one relied on that a little too much. The idea that two seemingly intelligent adults couldn’t keep their hands off each other long enough to define the relationship shows plenty of lust, but little in the way of love. The saving grace here for me was the author’s wit and the crazy circumstances these two often found themselves in. It does make for an entertaining and fast paced read.
This book gave us so much insight as to why and how tour life can so turned upside-down. Just by the cause of one little lie. But in the end things truly worked out for all. This book is so amazing and worth the read. I definitely give this book 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader’s Copy.
I Can Explain is such an enjoyable read from beginning to end. A romantic-comedy story about a boss who’s arrogant, self-assured, but a sex-on-the-stick nonetheless. And a female employee who’s overqualified to the job of an errand girl, but sticking it out hoping that someday her boss will give her the chance to prove that she’s more than a girl Friday.
This book will definitely give you a laugh-out-moment especially when Alana caught in some compromising situation, which happens a lot in front of Chase, her boss. The witty exchange of dialogue will get you engage to the story. Moreover, you’ll be interested to know why Chase blindsided Alana in a scene which can make or break their blossoming relationship.
What I also like about this book is how it moves from one scene to another flawlessly at a steady pace. The characters are well defined. Missy Johnson is a new author to me and I cannot wait to read more of her books. If you want to read a feel-good book, I highly recommend this one.
