I’ve discovered this author when she first started out and I’m so glad I took a chance on her then. This one is different than what I’m used to reading from her but it’s a story that will grip you from the start and won’t let you go! I loved it from beginning until end; you don’t want to miss it! I hope we get some more stories from the new characters in this book 🙂
Sarah has lost her brother and father and will now be in charge of the company although she really doesn’t have any desire to get involved in it. But when she finds out the secrets going behind it, she’ll have no choice than to do whatever she’s told to do, even risk her own life but she won’t go down without a fight. When security comes in, there’s one man that will make her heart beat faster and will make her feel safe. After all that’s said and done, Tom will do whatever he can in his power to keep Sarah away from harm with everything going down in London. Will he succeed?…
‘Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again.’ – CS Lewis.
Wow. This is an intense, gripping, fast paced romantic suspense that kept me up at night, on the edge of my seat, needing to get to the end so I could know they were okay.
Rebecca’s writing is quietly detailed and sexy, despite it being an extremely slow burn, their chemistry is explosive and burns through the book, long before their first kiss. It’s the kind of chemistry that can be portrayed through a single, caressing look, a handshake, the sharp intake of breath, and it’s the kind of chemistry that will leave you breathless.
‘My beautiful splash of colour in a sea of grey.’
The use of jargon was absolute genius on RJ Prescott’s part, I have no idea if it was accurate or not but it was way more knowledgable than me and added a layer of authenticity and realism to what was happening. I can’t imagine how much research must have gone into this!
I’m so captivated by these characters, the strength and loyalty between them, and the lengths Tom will go to, to protect the woman he loves? Talk about swoon inducing! This book explores family and love, and the constant fight between good and evil, even going as far as to challenge when the concept of the ‘greater good’ corrupts and destroys more than it saves.
‘The truth was, when there was a hundred reasons to let go, she was the only reason I needed to hold on.’
I admire the strength, selflessness, and ‘goodness’ that Sarah embodies. She’s such a brave character, terrified and grieving, but she battles through and facing these terrifying things anyway and to me that’s true courage.
‘He didn’t steal me away or hide me from the ugly truth of what it was we had to do. He simply made me feel like I was no longer alone. That in the dark, he was there with me.’
Yes this is a romance novel, but it’s also so much more than that. It’s so prevalent to today’s world, and it’s one of those books that makes you really stop and think.
RJ Prescott took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and with everything going on in the world right now, with recent events, this powerful novel had a brutal, unrelenting honesty. Like Tom, it didn’t shy away from the ugly truth of what it’s all become.
But the love, loyalty and family explored actually healed a small piece of my broken heart and restored a faith in humanity I didn’t realise I’d been lacking recently. I’m so grateful for that and I hope you can be as lucky.
‘To say that the life of a military partner was hard was an understatement of epic proportions. They were mothers and fathers, supports and friends. The silent ranks with no uniforms or stripes. They weren’t saluted or promoted or lauded or praised. They were the quiet strength. The lighthouses in the darkest of storms, guiding their soldiers home.’
