A centuries-old werelock playboy meets his match in a fearless single mom on the run…He was supposed to be an easy target. I had a clean shot at him while his back was turned and his pants were down. I wasn’t supposed to get distracted by his scent … or by the sight of his perfectly sculpted naked ass cheeks on display. He was never supposed to turn around and see me.Or start stripping the rest … to turn around and see me.
Or start stripping the rest of his clothes off.
And the greatest threat to my daughter’s life definitely wasn’t supposed to start kissing me—after I’d just shot him five times.
CONTENT: 100k word, full-length novel. HEA with NO cheating. Although this is book #4 in the Werelock Evolution series timeline, it was written to work as a first read in the series, so it is not necessary to have read the trilogy that precedes No Light. This book contains violence, foul language, adult content, and a lot of over-the-top werelock characters. If such material offends you, please do not read.more
Really enjoyed reading this book. Twists and turns that I did not expect.
Like the vampire and werewolf stories, right up my alley, especially when they protect a victim or hero-heroine in the story. Interesting storyline, a pageturner with wonderful characters with a romantic side to it.
Hettie Ivers, you have so much of my paranormal book love. Too subtle…yeah probably so, and yes she does already know. My stalking….errr…..following knows no bounds. She is such a fantastic writer and writes an amazing story, every time I read her books I am in complete awe. Definitely one of my favorite paranormal writers. Her humor is one of my absolute favorites, she can write a scene that may be something you normally would not love, but she delivers it flawlessly and leaving you wanting more….always, always, always want more. Pretty sure she is in my category of writers that if she wrote about trash bags…yup, I would totally read it….probably would love it too.
This is Avery & Al’s book, Avery is the badass mother of the Rogue that everyone has been searching for. And he is the player werelock brother of Alex and Lessa. This book starts out in full gear right from the Prologue and back story of Avery and how she came to be. Then it takes you on a wild ride. Such a great storyline that just sucked me right in. Avery and her daughter have not been a part of a pack and Avery spends all her time protecting her daughter with the help of her bestie, Wyatt. I am not gonna lie, Avery and Al had one of the funniest first-time encounters that I have ever read. I mean, when your true mate comes for you, but you are pretty much invincible….so damn funny. He was just so smitten with her, it was comical and hot af, and ends up against the bathroom wall. See hot af.
This was a safe read, neither are with others after they meet. He was with someone at the beginning of the book, but he had not even met his true mate yet. No om or ow drama. Great storyline, it’s an ongoing storyline, but it can be read as a standalone, she is always filling you in on the back story in each of her books. There is so much going on, we get to find out even more information, some alliances are tested, some passing, some…not so much. We get to see some of our favorite characters, some may continue to be your favorites and some will not be. I absolutely loved, loved Raul too. So much so that I am already reading his book. I know, patient I am not, and it is just as good as I thought it would be. Sorry, I digress. Avery and Al have so much chemistry, they do not mess around, they just jump in and get to business. These two were hot af. They are both so damn funny, her in-your-face humor and personality and him by being just so giddy about his mate and new daughter. He is completely smitten with them and I adored him. There is an epilogue and an hea. Oh and before I forget…this damn cover….just dayum.
Love the cover! It was a good read.
This story was intense and kept me intrigued throughout. Did not want it to finish,
It was definitely an original. Witty dialogue and a ton of action.
Starts out with Avery and what is happening to her. Then Alcaeus & Kai went looking for the rogue werewolf and find Avery and learn about what happened to her and I love reading this rest of this story & how it ends!
Keep in mind this is a standalone in the Werelock Evolution Series! The first three books, Slip of Fate, Fear the Heart, and the Revenge of the wrong should be read in order to get the full impact of the series.
I have officially returned from my emotional rollercoaster ride after a binge read of this book. Already I want to ease the book-over (book hangover) with a sneaky little peak back at parts of the book in order to satisfy my addiction to this series! I know, I know you’re thinking, “Really chick? Over dramatic much?”. Yes, really. For me, this book was incredibly intense!
No Light picks up 10 years after the last book (Revenge of the Wronged, Werelock Evolution #3) left off. After the devastating loss that the Reinoso pack suffered and the earth shatter chaos that ensured, Alcaeus is on a very special mission. The one true Rogue is out there, and it’s his goal to find him/her/it. In the long journey and search, Al is grieving for the women he loved for so long. He’s a bit of a lost puppy (pun totally intended) in many respects. He’s lost himself in the mindless motions to help him feel alive. As he’s set up to come face to face with the Rogue’s protector and ultimately capture her he’s thrown a curveball he never expected…the woman he faces at the most impromptu of times brings him back to life in more ways than one! Even when he’s so witty and cunning he’s so clueless!
Avery is in the battle of all epic battles. She’s fighting for her daughter’s life first, and her own second. 10 years ago she lost her life in a brutal attack that left her without a family or any peace. She managed to escape mortality as she waited to die thanks to a dark entity that pulled her back. She was left to no longer be human, but a werewolf who would give birth to the most feared creature in the supernatural world. Regardless of how others see her daughter, she sees a child she loves and will die to protect. Even if that means hiding her from the world, enlisting the help of the surprising human variety, a keen knack for outsmarting the bad guys and some serious pretty killer evading skills that will make any ninja proud. When she’s lured into a setting to take out a powerful hunter she gets more than she bargained for. Never had she experienced the emotional and physical pull she does in his presence.
Together they make you dizzy with their incredible trip all over the world, through mountains of emotions and more. There is so much that has to be sorted out and conquered. The question is, which one will succeed in completing their missions? Or will they be included in what has been prophesied as the end of all ends at the hands of the one true Rogue? Who gets what they want faster? How is the future determined at the hands of a child?
Let me tell you, I alternately laughed, cried, giggled, got mad, yelled at my kindle (a daily occurance mind you) and maybe blushed! Hettie has a way of throwing you off balance from one page to the next. Each page can strike a different emotion and have you following the same routine I did. The witty moments mixed with the outright humor, suspense, intrigue, sadness, anger and the other 3797345983487593 you can think of add so much to her stories. She has made me stop a wonder what the heck goes on in that brilliant mind of hers! I can’t say enough about how freaking AWESOME this story was! Seriously, if you haven’t experienced the world that lives with in her creative mind and soul, you’re missing out! This has tied for my most favorite book of all time! Be prepared to ride that roller coaster, and suffer with the book-over when it’s all said and done. I sure as the heck am willing to get back on that coaster!
When you pick up a book by Hettie Ivers you are almost guaranteed to get a book that is going to blow your mind on multiple levels. No Light was no deviation from the incredible stories I’ve come to expect from this talented author.
No Light included the brilliant characters Alcaeus, Kai, and Raul from her other Werelock Evolution books. She also introduced new characters Wyatt, Avery and Sloane. I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to these characters and their interactions. Throughout the book I found myself, laughing, saddened, sometimes sobbing, while other times I was irritated and wondering what Hettie Ivers was thinking with all the twists and turns she threw in this book. Of course no book by Hettie Ivers would be complete without some rather steamy scenes, and let me tell you, her steamy scenes could fog up this reader’s glasses, even when she isn’t wearing them!!
The chemistry between Alcaeus and Avery was…I have no words. I simply couldn’t get enough of this couples interactions. I can’t deny the fact I absolutely loved Avery’s relationship, if you want to call it that, with Kai as well. When it came to Avery and Sloane if only I could convey everything those scenes stirred up in both my heart and mind.
I loved this book for all of the humor, action, heat, and even the tenderness in certain scenes. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite passages from No Light. I must have read this 4 or 5 times. It struck a chord with me and I would imagine it will with others.
“You don’t need to know the details of all the bad things that have happened in my past to know who I am. Who I am is right in front of you. The things that happen to us in life—that’s just circumstance. What we make of them … that’s who we are.”
Ivers is back with another gem after her departure into sci-fi and the Krinar World. I liked Beyond the X Club, but Ivers shines in her own world just that bit brighter. No Light rejoins the Reinoso Salvatella blood feud after a decade and we find our familiar characters in some unfamiliar situations. I don’t want to get into the plot, as some of the other reviewers have already done, so I’ll just stick to what I liked.
First, Avery and Alcaeus are awesome! The way they get together had me at the lock of a door, truly love at first shot! Ivers tackles a really gritty, powerful character in Avery who provides a refreshing message to the question ‘what do we do when life gives us lemons’. Obviously, we throw a flash grenade at them. Her determination is fierce, and the emotions I felt reading her story were powerful because of it.
Second, as it turns out, I think Raul may be my new favorite, smokin’ hot, surfer dude, kick ass werelock with a super soft side that we weren’t privy to in the trilogy. His demeanor towards little Sloane will melt your heart and gives depth to a character that had the potential for so much more from the first three books. I am really looking forward to Just Like Animals, and would like to publicly lobby Ms. Ivers to write JLA before Seer as it is more interesting to me(and likely everyone, at that point) to see how Raul and Bethy get together. I always knew the party in Argentina wasn’t the end, just the beginning(party, kidnapping, whatever). I digress.
Third, Ivers humor is again a vital part of her storytelling, weaving absurdity, one-liners, irony, and slapstick into her books effortlessly, as the humor than helps to juxtapose the very serious themes that she also tackles with this tale. The weight of it all that I felt reading, I believe is owed to the well rounded emotion and depth she gives to the tale and she accomplishes this with a deft hand. I never laugh out loud reading except when I read Ivers.
No Light by Hettie Ivers was Paranormal at its best. Warewolves, warelocks, prophesies, fated mates, family dynamics and the rogue of all rogues are just some of what you will get in this fast pace gripping tale.
This was Alcaeus and Avery’s romance yet there were a host of additional characters who all added to this fascinating story. I will admit Raul was my favorite.
Steamy scenes, amazing characters, exciting storyline and lots of twists and turns will have you hooked until the very end and leave you wanting more. I absolutely loved this novel. It was an at times emotional, funny, action packed page turner which I would highly recommend. This was a phenomenal novel and a definite must read for PNR lovers.
*I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of this novel.*
This book it went straight for my heart. My heart bled for Alcaeus and Avery. The book is full of mystery, love, and betrayal. I don’t think I could ever get enough of this series. This might actually be the best book yet.
No Light: A Werelock Evolution Series Standalone Novel is an excellent and entertaining read. I have been patiently waiting for a new entry into this series and No Light did not disappoint. This is a standalone book, so if you are new to this author or series it’s a great time to jump in. This is an emotional, action packed, humorous shifter paranormal romance. Offering lots of sexiness and a surprising amount of heart, this book will quickly ensnare you and keep you turning pages as quickly as you can. Characters are complex and the chemistry just lights up this book. Their witty banter is so enjoyable it will bring a smile to your face. I highly recommend this book. It’s protective alpha hero, kick butt heroine, heartbreaking but awe inspiring child, old friends we meet again and a plot that is well thought out create an amazing and pleasurable read. I’m posting a voluntary, honest review after reading an advance copy of this book.
this was a fun book to read. good humor and action all in one place
2.5 is probably a more accurate rating.
First of all…I did not read books 1-3 in this series. I believed this could be read as a stand alone. Which, it can. IF – you don’t mind being a little lost for the first 30% of the book.
While I EFFING ADORED Al and nearly to the same extent, Avery, the story as a whole didn’t work for me. Again, this may be partially because I hadn’t read any groundwork books.
You see, there are a bunch of characters and a good chunk of this book relates to them and their pasts and, in all honestly, has little to do with the main characters. I mean, yeah, their back stories are catalysts for THIS couples story. But we still were not given much in the way of a relationship between Al and Avery. There wasn’t really all that much interaction between them, though what we did get was amazing. It just needed to be so much more.
Furthermore, Al really didn’t do much. Besides some epic fucking and some hella adorable moments, he wasn’t really badass and I think I needed him to be.
Luke-warm, at best.
Have not been able to finish this book yet… something is off for me; language? Story? Maybe I’ll get back to it soon.
Too sexually graphic for me
