Well, ex best friend now…She’s off limits like tempting forbidden fruit, and I’m the snake slithering through the grass. She ignites a fire in me. One I can’t explain. Fantastic Story & Audible Listen DeanEmma!
The Space Between Us
The Men of Evansdale County
By: Alyne Hart
Narrated by: Logan McAllister
I enjoyed this book, I was completely captivated by it, it grabbed both my attention and my heart. Alyne Hart has a great writing style, she creates storylines and characters that are realistic and easy to relate to. I liked the two lead characters, Emma’s life is not where she thought it would be, after losing her parents she is back at the family apple farm helping her brother, Forrest, she also works shifts at the town’s diner. She does plan to go to college and enroll in a dance program. Dean came back in town to help with his grandmother who has fallen ill and is in a nursing home. He is in the dinner and sees Emma, his former best friend’s little sister. He can not take his eyes off of her and even though he shouldn’t he starts to pursue her. You can not help but fall in love with Dean, he is broken and has not self worth, he thinks he is incapable of love or being loved, maybe he is just afraid of what it will do to him. Emma always had a crush on Dean but he never saw her as anything but a kid sister, but now that that has changed can she betray her brother and have a relationship with his ex friend. She never knew what exactly happened to cause their fall out but she decides to to follow her heart. I loved how well plotted this book is, the story has a natural flow to it and there is never a dull moment. There is plenty of drama, angst, a whole lot of emotions, raw and heartfelt, and a slow burn to love and a wonderful romance. Alyne Hart, thank you for this great story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Logan McAllister is a talented narrator and voice artist, he brings the characters to life, giving them their voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. He does a great job portraying the characters and projecting their emotions into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen

HOLY CRAP THAT WAS GOOD!!! I was lucky enough to win an advanced copy of Something Like This and I decided that I wanted to read the first two books. I’M SO GLAD I DID! I love how well this book was written and the plot was fantastic!!!
The amount of history that Emma and Dean have together is HUGE, the fact that she always had a crush on him was also HUGE! I LOVED THIS!!! Dean being the brothers best friend is always one thing, but the fact that he’s the one who is obsessed with her as an adult was so damn adorable! Well, adorable is a little bit of an innocent word, there was nothing adorable about his feelings for her. He was so fantastically filthy about it, and the fact that she was innocent… MIND BLOWINGLY GOOD!
There was the perfect amount of emotions, twist and turns in this book. I love a deeply emotional book, and I really loved how many this one had. I truly felt every emotion throughout this book and that for me made this book that much better. Alyne did an amazing job of the supporting characters too. I loved Tony and Rose the most, these two really were just THE BEST! I cannot wait to see what is to come!
I loved everything about this book! A second-chance romance, sports romance with a broody boxer and the girl finally getting her childhood crush. I was captivated from the first page and instantly transported into Dean and Emma’s journey. Dean and Emma couldn’t be much different yet they fit perfectly together and their chemistry! Woo-Wee! I could feel it sizzle off the pages and more than once had to fan myself.
The Space Between Us was a big win for me and I can’t wait to read more by this wonderful author!
When underground fighter Dean King sees the hot waitress at the diner back in his podunk hometown, he’s attracted. When he realizes she’s the little sister of his former best friend Forrest, it doesn’t stop him from wanting her. It should, but Dean’s not one for doing the right thing.
Emma Winchester (can I just say that I FLOVE the Supernatural theme the author has going on with all the characters’ names!!) has been in love with her older brother’s one time best friend since she was a little girl. Now that he’s back in their hometown to see his beloved grandma, Mama Rose, the two of them just might have a chance to fulfill Emma’s unrequited crush. That is if his shady fighting arrangement doesn’t get in the way of the future Emma starting to see for them.
Brother’s best friend (or in this case, former best friend) can be a tricky trope to navigate. Alyne Hart handles it like a champ, though. It never verges on the side of too angsty and forbidden because my brother will kill you simply because you’re his friend (ex friend), rather it concentrates on Emma and Dean’s individual personalities and how they mesh or don’t as a couple, whether they’re out in the open in front of the brother or not.
There’s lots of steamy forbidden goodness, yes, but it’s not the main thing here. The emotional level these two connect on is what makes this story so good. It’s both emotionally layered and emotionally satisfying at the same time. I fell in love with Dean, (who doesn’t love a tatted up fighter, especially one named Dean?!) but Emma is truly the star here in The Space Between Us. She’s sweet, yet strong and tough, and she simply loves those most important to her – her brother Forrest, her best friend Von and of course, most importantly, Dean. I wish all romance authors would take heed of the author’s choice of heroines, because there need to be more like her and fewer of the whiny, woe is me type that line the romance genre these days.
This one has been on my TBR for awhile and I’m glad I decided to grab it and read it.
Dean and Emma’s grew up together. He and her brothers were best friends until one night they weren’t. And Dean’s name was not to be spoken.
But he’s back and Emma can’t deny the pull and the spark between them. What will it take for her to show him he’s worthy of love? She might just need help from an angel.
A second chance, a forbidden love, friends to lovers, can this book hold any more tropes? It has something for everyone to love. Emma Winchester and Dean (do you see a Supernatural reference too?) have a second chance at love but it is one they will have to fight for. Dean is a rough, boxer but has a softer side when it comes to Emma. Emma is a strong woman. She can definitely hold her own. When she sets her eyes on Dean, nothing will stand in her way to get what she wants. I enjoy opposites attract couples. It gives the characters depth.
Logan McAllister was a great Dean. He was able to bring out the roughness to Dean through his gritty voice. His different tones for the characters made the narration easy to follow. Mr. McAllister narrates slower than I prefer, but that was easily fixed. Overall it was an enjoyable narration.
Alyne had a way with words. These books will not disappoint you.
Wonderful emotional struggle to healing and finding love.
The Space Between Us was an awesome boxer read. I loved the chemistry, suspense and sexiness of this read. You will love this read and want more of the series I know I can’t wait to read more. Go grab it now.
