One night a life changed. My life. I used to write about chaos – about lives turning on a dime. Never once did I think it would ever happen to me. I went from a blossoming career to a prisoner in the span of a single evening. A living nightmare I was determined to escape. The price of evil was high, but I wasn’t backing down. I knew in my heart the men in my life would be looking. I just had to … looking. I just had to survive. One day at a time. Minutes turned to hours. Hours turned into days. Then, it was time to make a choice.
Live or Die?
I chose to live.
Hell hath no fury and I had no more time…

There is no doubt this grabs your attention from the start with this disturbing story about obsession, tragedy, drama, evil, lose, love and survival. The author knows how to spin a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat with many twists and turns. I had a few drop down mouth moments as well as a few times I close my eyes to let it all sink in. It isn’t a story you want to read late at night home alone.
Dani has a good life just starting her career, with wonderful friends, the love of her life. Life looks good the future even better that is until evil walks in her life with one who is obsessed, always watching, never too far away, following, waiting watching and making plans. On graduation night that all changes when she is kidnapped taken from all she has known and loved. Her strength will be tested as well as her basic skills to stay alive, it is touch and go with an outcome that leave you holding your breath as the author takes you through the paces of evil within one person, so much evil it will make your skin crawl as your mouth drops.
For a debut story this was great, it has suspense, danger with one very sick person that will surprise you when you see the outcome. My heart really went out to Dani, I doubt you could read this and not have it touching you in some way. The plot and story line is wonderful, has some great characters. As the plot twists it becomes a very emotional read that had me looking over my shoulder. You are left guess just where the author is going with it as the end draws near you close your eyes and pray for a good ending. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series.
OH. MY. GOD! (Said in my best Janice from Friends impersonation)
This book, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I absolutely love a book that will keep me on my toes and keep me guessing all through the book.
I most certainly don’t want to say too much about this book, because I worry I’ll give away important details about the story. But trust me, you do not want to miss this story!
Wow, what a gripping amazing story. Dani Lynn was kidnapped by a psycho and held in her own personal hell for 12 days. While trying to figure out how to get away. This is a new author to me and I was really impressed by her writing. This story may have triggers for some people as it has abuse. Can’t wait to read the next book!
A great story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t put it down until I found out what happened next. Great characters that you will fall in love with and care about, even the bad ones. Looking forward to reading more stories by this author.
The prologue was very intriguing and had me eager to continue reading. I could tell the main character had some spunk and I wanted to know how that would come to help her through the difficult time she was describing.
I instantly liked Dani and Katie’s banter. They were a great pair of characters and friends.
Chapter Two ratcheted up the drama and anxiety. I could barely read fast enough to quench my panic.
Nicole had lived quite a life and while I understood more about how she had come to be the way she was, she was still completely terrifying.
I enjoyed the varying perspectives in this book as it allowed me to see how all of the key players were thinking and feeling. It also allowed my emotions to ramp up and match each character.
Chapter Nine certainly added to the chill factor and thickened the plot for sure.
Dani Lynn’s ordeal was chilling on so many levels. Shuler did a terrific job of invoking my anxiety with each scene.
Chapter Seventeen was all kinds of intense! The secret revealed blew things right out of the water.
This book had so much depth, drama, and emotion. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Chapter Twenty was terrifying and even when I felt hope, the mystery “Him” was in the back of my mind and I knew Dani Lynn wasn’t out of the woods yet.
There was still plenty of action, along with an abundace of twists and turns the whole way through to the conclusion of this book. It absolutely had me on the edge of my seat. I loved it and can’t wait to read more of this series.
Definitely not for the faint of heart, a story of rape, kidnapping and a psychopath. A page turner told through “the minds” of different characters made the twists and turns interesting. My only complaint is-although I love Dani Lynn and her will to survive and protect her baby- taking a xanax while pregnant-really? A great suspense novel that has left me sometime unsettled.
4 out of 5 stars
I sat down and started reading this book , thought I would read some and put it down and go about my day . Well I was mistaken , I read the book in one sitting . Supper was not made and laundry didn’t get folded . I got very invested in this book. It sucked me in right from the get go . The author took me down a dark tunnel . What would you do if you were having the time of your life . You had a great writing career and a man who loved you unconditionally. That was Dani-lyn’s life . She had a best selling novel and a hot sexy sheriff that loved her oh and she had a secret . Until the night it all went terribly wrong . When she was taken from her hometown book signing . Will the men in her life find her before it is too late .
What can I saw about the characters in this book. They are complex and well written . Dani-lyn was a character at the beginning of the book I really was on the fence about her . She was timid and well it felt like she was a little naïve . But as you read along through the book and you watched her go through everything that she went through , You really see her grow and be come a warrior . She took her getting out of where she was in her own hands . The one woman that actually really scared me was Nicole . Man she was crazy and I mean scary crazy. She was always around Dani watching and waiting . Not going to tell you anymore about her cause I will spoil it for you . The supporting characters are all well written and help find Dani .
This story is not for the faint of heart . There are scenes of sexual and physical abuse and some torture . This is a book full of twists and turns . I honestly couldn’t put this book down . I wanted to know if she was going to make it out alive . This is also the first book where it was a female stalker , stalking another female . Which to me made the book even better . I will say the twist at the end will have you going what the heck . You will cheer for the characters and you will also cry . Trust me some of the stuff Dani went through , I had tears in my eyes . I truly felt for her at the end of the book. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series . If you want a dark read with plenty of twists and turns add this series to your fall and winter reading list .
4.5 Stars. Buckle up cuz this is one helluva read. I read this in one sitting. Yes, one sitting. I could not put this down. Dani Lynn is ripped from her life and endures a true nightmare. Follow her as she struggles to survive and hopefully return to her life before. The twists in this gave me whiplash and I loved it. If you like a good suspense novel, do not pass this one up.
I was quickly drawn in to this story and couldn’t put the book down. One more chapter turned in to staying up until 3:30 am, it was worth it. The story is deftly told from varying characters points of view which gives a broader picture of what is going on. There is plenty of suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat, strong, complex characters, and of course, romance. Definitely, worth reading.
ONE WICKED READ!!!
Oh, man. This was a tough one. I’m just gonna say right up front I’m a person who takes no prisoners and doesn’t flinch in face of horror. I roll with it. This read totally caught me off guard. The scenes, characters, details was so realistic I could hear the hearts pounding. My attention was captured from the start. So many twists and turns and the surprises kept me frozen to my seat and my eyes only focus was the words on the page. I felt the fear, the overwhelming feeling of not getting out safe and alive. I don’t know from where, when or if a who Barb got the inspiration but she totally nailed this one. I was gripped with terror and I’m a horror fan. Barb definitely has the talent of one awesome author. She did an excellent job bringing this read to life.
Wow! I mean, wow. This was my first read by Barb Shuler and it was incredible. I’ll admit that there were times the book kind of creeped me out but, not in a bad way. It was like sitting watching a Stephen King movie kind of creeped out. The characters in the story are strong and resilient even with as broken as some of them are. The crazies are really crazy and the ass-hats make me want to slap them every time they show up. There’s danger, suspense, fear, love, hate, triumph, defeat, death and new life. Everything you need to have an amazing story. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more.
