Though the baby was uninjured, things could have been much worse. When the mother’s body is found two days later, in a lake far outside town on the road to the county prison, Maggie suddenly has more than child endangerment or a missing person on … town on the road to the county prison, Maggie suddenly has more than child endangerment or a missing person on her hands.
Kristen Morgan’s family and doctor say that she was depressed and possibly not taking her medication, and that she’d talked about suicide in the past, but Maggie and her fiancé, former Sheriff Wyatt Hamilton, aren’t convinced.
When evidence of homicide surfaces, Maggie must discover who wanted a young mother dead, and why.
The greatly-anticipated 8th book in the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series has plenty of page-turning action and suspense, along with its trademark coastal atmosphere, rich characterization and dry humor.

I’ve read all in this series and am never disappointed. Another great book, always eagerly anticipated.
I have enjoyed all of the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense Books. They have just enough suspense in them, along with romance, and realistic to them. They were easy books to read. When you start reading, you feel like you are right there with the characters.
I have read the series and love every one of them, including this one!!!!
It was great to be back in Apalachicola with my friends from the forgotten coast. The stories are ok, although predictable…but I love the setting and the characters…these are my people.
A must for readers of the Forgotten Coast series. Excellent characters.
Another fine read in the Maggie Redmond series. I have enjoyed all of the novels in this series.
This author just keeps getting better!! I love a good regional writer and especially of mysteries. You have the flavor of the area, the small town feel, their food, customs, way of talking, and most important, the love they have for their town and people. Throw in a solid mystery with heart and you have a winner. This is a 4 .5 in my mind.
I really recommend reading her fisrt book and enjoying each book in the series so you can enjoy the main character Maggie and how she changes over time. This book is number eight. Maggie is a deputy that takes her job to heart…especially when she finds a baby crying in a locked car, no mother around. Her crew including Dwight and her old boss Wyatt, do things the old fashion way, they interview, investigate and double check evidence…due diligence. Later the mom is found dead and attention must be paid to the family, friends, lifestyle and it is all interesting as you feel yourself forming ideas of who the killer is and why.
Maggie and the team care about their town and the victims and you see a bit of their life and loves. Maggie has her kids, dog and Stoopid, her nutty rooster. I love Stoopid!! Thrilled he is still alive, weird, and now wearing diapers as he has overtaken the house.
Plot is terrific and realistic and sadly, you can read about this one in your daily papers. Maggie has grown as a character in these books and her relationships with her family, Wyatt, and the water play out…a shrimper’s life, struggling to make ends meet, the beach goers, the eateries, the pink sunsets are all important. Come for the mystery and stay awhile for the food…relax on a dock…
I’m in the midst of reading this series & can tell you that the author has great character development & is a great story teller. I’ve had this series for a while but just got to it. I’m sorry I waited. Read this now! You can feel the Florida heat from the authors descriptions. I’m savoring this series & will look for more in the future.
Love McKenna’s Florida and all of its characters.
Love all of her books. This is my first review.
Loved this book as well as the earlier ones in the series. Only disappointment was that in the afterword it sounds like this is the end of the series. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I want more!
Good continuation of the series. I have read all the earlier books and enjoyed them all. I look forward to reading more books.
