Some things should stay buried.
Repressed scholar Percival Endicott Whyborne has two skills: reading dead languages and hiding in his office at the Ladysmith Museum. After the tragic death of the friend he secretly loved, he’s ruthlessly suppressed any desire for another man.
So when handsome ex-Pinkerton Griffin Flaherty approaches him to translate a mysterious book, Whyborne wants to finish … Whyborne wants to finish the job and get rid of the detective as quickly as possible. Griffin left the Pinkertons following the death of his partner, hoping to start a new life. But the powerful cult which murdered Glenn has taken root in Widdershins, and only the spells in the book can stop them. Spells the intellectual Whyborne doesn’t believe are real.
As the investigation draws the two men closer, Griffin’s rakish charm threatens to shatter Whyborne’s iron control. When the cult resurrects an evil sorcerer who commands terrifying monsters, can Whyborne overcome his fear and learn to trust? Will Griffin let go of his past and risk falling in love? Or will Griffin’s secrets cost Whyborne both his heart and his life?

This is the first book in the fabulous Whyborne & Griffin series. I adore the characters, and Jordan L. Hawk is brilliant at combining romance with mystery and adventure.
After having read another one of Jordan L. Hawk’s series I decided to finally give this series a try as well. Widdershins is a great start to this series. It combines different elements well together in an engaging story. This book has a historical setting, a mm romance, fantasy elements, Lovecraftian themes and monsters as well as some mystery. …
I usually don’t like first person books, but I couldn’t put this down
I enjoyed Widdershins. It is about Percival Whyborne, who is a dead language specialist and his journey to get over the tragic death of his childhood friend and first love. He is approached by a former Pinkerton detective, Griffin Flaherty to assist him in translating an ancient book of spells. Before Whyborne knows it, he is Griffin’s new …
An awesome gothic romance/gothic horror/m/m romance.
I loved this book, the characters came to life. It was a mixture of supernatural and mystery that kept me up late into the night to finish the book
So, I adore K J Charles, and read that these two authors had done a collaboration. Before I read that, I decided to check out Jordan L Hawk’s individual work. It’s official – I’m in love with another author. Historical fantasy, with steamy M/M romance, and gory supernatural elements thrown into the mix. This was a definite page-turner, and will …
I love Jordan L. Hawk’s writing. Widdershins takes Lovecraftian monsters and twists them up with a romance plot – loads of action, great characters and a satisfying ending.
How have I not known about this series. Wonderful quirky original spooky story with great love story. Loved it
I love me some historical fiction paired with fantasy, and the Whyborne & Griffin series is right up my alley. As the first book in the series, Wiidershins is also I think one of the strongest, introducing some genuinely likeable characters and a story/universe with a lot of room for growth and exploration. This is a really fun read, as well as a …
I adore this whole series. Simply adore it. It was one of the first MM fantasies that I picked up and it sucked me wholly in. I’m sad/overwhelmed/delighted that the last book is due out October 2019. It’s been such an epic journey and the characters are some of my favorites.
This series is one of my favorite. Hawke does some seriously good world building in this book and the characters are so engaging and funny.
Magic always has a lovely way of complicating life. I always wish I knew what that felt like. What I really liked about this book was that it wasn’t just stopping bad magic users, it wasn’t just someone discovering magic talent in themselves, and it wasn’t just about finding out magic exists at all. It was all of that and more with Whyborne …
A town unlike any other, secrets well kept, power beyond reason and two men who take a stand against the evil force that threatens the world. What a fantastic story! I loved it! Percival Whyborne is a charmingly awkward philologist who has carried a lot fears and guilt through the years. His life is simple and that’s exactly how he likes it. The …
