Whose secret is more disturbing, his or hers?OliviaSomeone’s slashed my tires less than a week after I screwed ex-con Cliff back into society. I knew it was a bad idea, but with his dark hair, gentle eyes, and disturbing secrets, I was dying to unlock him. As much as I don’t want to believe it was him, he’s a killer, so what’s a little stalking? With a whole biker club at my back, normally all … stalking? With a whole biker club at my back, normally all I’d have to do is say the word, but he just became their latest Prospect.
I’ll just have to handle it myself.
Cliff
After two decades in prison, I might as well be on another planet. Everything is different now, including me. I’ve fallen for the first woman I met, and I’ll do anything to prove to her that I’ve changed, too. There aren’t many prospects for a felon, so I have no choice but to take the first job I’m offered. Becoming a Prospect for my father’s MC comes with all kinds of strings, especially since I’m the one who killed him.
And now, thanks to Olivia, I’ve got one more body to bury.
A Disturbing Prospect is the first book in the River Reapers MC series, a dark romance with a body count. Some content may be disturbing to some readers.

Update Review:
I’ll start by saying I appreciated the trigger warning at the beginning of the book – thank you for the heads up ahead of time.
That being said, OMG I love MC dark romances but I think this is my new favourite.
I have to say Olivia and Cliff’s story were a surprise – but a great surprise. I loved that Olivia was a younger woman with an older man – an ex-con at that.
I honestly enjoyed the fact that both Olivia and Cliff had hardened backgrounds that they both were figuring out not just on their own but together.
I will say one thing, I was hooked from the very beginning. I love reading about characters who have gone through some rougher stuff.
Yes, A Disturbing Prospect ends in somewhat of cliffhanger but it’s worth the wait.
Old Review:
There were so many reasons to love A Disturbing Prospect I had a hard time thinking about what I should share and what you should learn on your own, because really this is a must read.
First off, once I finished A Disturbing Prospect I completely went into a book and writing hangover!
I enjoyed the family bond between Cliff and Lucy and how he wouldn’t share the secret he and Lucy shared. I loved seeing that level of respect for someone’s privacy.
I love the chemistry between Cliff and Olivia, despite them being technically related.
I found the MC portion of the book very entertaining, almost as if I was watching Jax from SOA, only as Cliff. (Spoiler) I thought it was beyond clever how Elizabeth incorporated Olivia into the biker gang. (River Reapers)
Other Notes:
*I love the nicknames, Beer Cans and Red Dog
*And don’t forget Olivia’s mother reading her The Shannara Chronicles.
Elizabeth Barone
A Disturbing Prospect by Elizabeth Barone is book one in the River Reapers Motorcycle Club series. This is the story of Cliff and Olivia. Cliff is getting out of Jail working to get back into life and one choice was to be with the River Reapers Club. Olivia is in college so both are different people yet both have been and are going through hard things. Their story isn’t easy and can’t be completed in this book, so I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.
4.5 stars
Gritty, MC series with an age gap romance.
Elizabeth Barone has become my newest discovery authoring MC stories with her River Reapers series. Disturbing Prospect is the first of at least three books telling the story of Olivia and Cliff an age gap romance. These characters have depth and quite the story to tell as their relationship develops and secrets are revealed.
Cliff was just released from prison after serving 20 years, missing out on his young adulthood. Emotionally and culturally stunted from spending his young adulthood in prison, he is adrift trying to figure out his new life when he meets Olivia.
Olivia is twenty-one year old college student, trying to make a better life for herself. Taking classes and working as a bar tender at the Reaper’s run bar, Wet Mermaid. Her best friend is her adopted older sister Lucy, who is Cliff’s cousin. Cliff calls Lucy, his only family, when he is destitute after only one day after release from prison. Olivia travels with Lucy to rescue Cliff and thus begins their story. And in a unique twist, Olivia is all about the one night stands, no commitments. Cliff is concerned that he getting too emotionally involved too fast because of his lack of relationship experience.
This story is not for the faint of heart and you are warned at the beginning of potential triggers and difficult subject matters. In addition, Elizabeth has picked a socially charged subject of how unprepared and unsupported ex-convicts are for re-entering society.
This was a new to me author and one I’ll definitely be reading more from including the next book in the series, as I have so many questions still.
It took me a bit to get into and yes a few things didn’t quite add up, but my god, the bombshells that started dropping, not to mention the gory action, has me giving more stars than I might normally.
The characters definitely grow on you once they find their feet, and little Dio stole the show.
Looking forward to diving immediately into book 2.
Second chance
Cliff sacrifices his life for someone he love.. Never regret what he did. Olive has has a hard life. She’s ready to take charge of her life school, work new man . Two broken soul trying to stay alive .
This is a new author to me and what can I say about this book!!! WOW!! A dark romance splashed with an MC. WOW!! This book is a solid 4.5 stars.
It has been awhile since I have read such a gritty MC read. Our hero Cliff is newly released from prison after doing 20 years for protecting someone in his family. He is like a kid in the candy store with everything that has been changed since being away. Like a fish out of water he is trying to find his place. Enter our heroine Olivia she is a first 20 something that lives her life how she sees fit. She is studying to be a social worker and works as a bartender. The Insta attraction is hard for Cliff since she is his cousin Lucy adopted sister. I
There is a while lot of things that happen like a stalker, and a bunch of other things that I refuse to divulge in this review. I am looking forward to the next book.
I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. To be fair this isn’t a bad read, but it also isn’t great. A lot of my issues with the book come from the fact that the beginning is too slow and that there are instances where the plot and writing don’t make sense. The entire time spent in Lewisburg and getting Cliff after he gets out of jail is dull. I don’t care if train stations are heated, what fast food they are eating (unless there’s a joke involved), or to be constantly reminded that Cliff has no money or any idea about the outside world. It made Cliff kinda pitiful, and I’m sorry, but I don’t find that sexy at all. Not to mention, I find it unlikely that despite him being in jail for 20 years that he has no exposure to WiFi or Facebook. Also, given what we find out about the River Reapers later, why weren’t they out there helping him in Lewisburg when he really needed help? It’s this big deal later on where they welcome him to the club as a prospect and have a huge party to honor him, so they were just waiting for him to appear in CT and they made no effort till that point?
I do really like Cliff and Olivia together. It’s believable and the chemistry is nicely written. Their interactions are why I kept reading the book, and also why I gave it three stars. For both characters I didn’t like how their backgrounds and “twists” were revealed, nor did I find the twists to be believable or surprising.
SPOILERS
How is it possible that Cliff lived with his Dad till he was 18 and yet never knew that he was a River Reaper, let alone the president of the MC? What a way to make the club look horrible by making it clear that they knew that Cliff’s dad was sexually abusing an 8 year old Lucy, and voted to do nothing about it. More plot holes, surround Lucy’s parents and how the heck such negligent parents could ever have been allowed to adopt Olivia. Also, it doesn’t make sense why Olivia was never told about Mercy and the club. Why didn’t Mercy approach Cliff in jail and get to know him there? It’s all so oddly written and apparently glossed over. I hate when there are plot holes and nonsensical parts of the story.
I’m intrigued by an MC allowing a female prospect. That added a nice catch at the end of the story and will cause me to give the second book a try. I’m also curious if we get to see more about Lucy and the side characters of Beercan, Mark, Ravage and Donny.
This is a well-written MC romance with strong characters. The story line has lots of twists and turns, which I love. I so love unpredictable stories with characters that pull at all your emotions. If a book pulls strong emotions from you, then it is a good book. Characters should have flaws that make you hate, love and make you feel. Great Read

This is a new author to me and a fantastic start to a series. I really like this author’s writing style; she has done a great job laying out the scene and the MC. Her characters have depth to them and some mystery and intrigue. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

He is just released from prison and the only place he has to go is back to the River Reapers MC she has been away at college and has just returned There is plenty of history hinted at between Cliff and Olivia but we don’t get the whole story but there is more than enough to give you the drift without bogging the story down. Olivia is the sexual aggressor in this story which is surprising seeing Cliff has been in jail for the past 20 years but then maybe he is on modern life overload. There is a cliffhanger ending so be prepared Yes the author does put a warning at the beginning of the book about triggers so if things upset you take note of this
So I wanted to give this book a higher rating but I couldn’t. If I’m being honest and I am, I was weirded out by the whole they might or might not be cousins at first. I kept reading and realized they weren’t. It was by adoption so no blood relation, Thank God. Anyway, this was such a great start to this series. I loved getting to know Cliff and Olivia better. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t entirely how it was gonna play out but enjoyed it all the same.
Cliff has a past. He had a reason for what he did and doesn’t regret going to Prison for it. He took a monster off the street. It may have killed some family connections but not a huge loss. Anyway he is out and looking forward to starting over. He doesn’t know what to expect that he’s out. A lot has changed in 20 yrs. He never meant to fall hard for Olivia but he was a goner the minute he met her. It was destined to happen though. I loved Cliff. He is crass but sweet, he speaks his mind and has a sarcastic mouth. He keeps things interesting, that’s for sure.
Olivia is a college student about to graduate when things change for her. She wants to be social worker and help the kids who were like her. She won’t let this new life change that. She didn’t expect to fall hard for Cliff. It was only supposed to be a one night stand but it turned into so much more. These two fight but love hard. It does have some graphic scene but the author puts a warning on the book for a reason. This is all part of the MC life. Oh and I’m starting to like Donny and Esther as well. Please tell me they get a book after Cliff and Olivia… I’d love to know how they met.
This book will keep your attention to the very end, you’ll want book 2 as soon as you finish. Great book with great characters!! On to book 2 now…
This is the first on this series and the author’s trigger warnings should be taken seriously. There’s a lot going on and honestly, it didn’t go at all where or how I expected it to!
An enjoyable read to be sure, but not what I thought I was getting myself into. This is an MC romance, but we don’t get to that content for quite a while. The twists and turns that tie the characters together run deep and are more convoluted than they appear. It’s a good adventure to follow Cliff, Lucy and Olivia. I honestly thought I was getting into Lucy’s story with Cliff, not Olivia’s, and as a character I really struggle with her (Olivia). As a pair, she and Cliff are two broken pieces that fit together, despite the age difference issues and a lot of the other complications.
Overall, a decent MC read if the triggers aren’t an issue for you.
This is the first book in a new series from this talented author, and what an amazing introduction this is. Be aware that trigger warning are there for a reason! Cliff is newly released from prison, and is trying to find his place back in the real world. No spoilers; this is a must read for all MC lovers, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is dark, gritty, steamy, and with revenge and justice. I cannot wait to read the 2nd book in this engaging story.
Cliff is finally free after doing his time in prison, he was an 18 year old kid when he went in so trying to reintegrate himself into civilian life is going to be difficult. He doesn’t realize how much things have changed until Lucy and Olivia show him just how truly different life is now vs 20 years ago.
Olivia is a free spirit, she doesn’t want to settle down. She wants to be a social worker and she is almost done with college. She isn’t looking for the house and 2.5 kids yet, she’s enjoying her one night stands and partying lifestyle.
When Cliff and Olivia first meet there is this instant attraction. They both deny the connection due to being “cousins” albeit adoptive, Cliff and Lucy are cousins and grew up together before he went away. Lucy and Olivia are sisters, Olivia is adopted and isn’t technically related to Cliff. They both try to fight the attraction and chemistry, it’s so obvious how strong the sparks between the two are.
This is a very dark story, there are trigger warnings and it isn’t a story for everyone.. Now, with that being said- this IS a story that needed to be told. I loved it! I am so thankful that Elizabeth had the strength to tell this beautiful story and fight the demons she fought to be able to tell this story.
I was captivated by this story, and I loved the characters so much. I could not put it down, I had to finish and know what happens. I was worried with all the trigger warnings, but I persevered and am so thankful I gave this book a chance. This book went straight to my soul! It is one that will stay with me for a very long time.
I love MC-related dark romances and this book did not let me down! I appreciated the trigger warning from the author in the beginning of the book because there were indeed a lot of triggers and I can see where some readers may be bothered, so please take heed to the author’s warning. It’s there for a reason. A Disturbing Prospect is the story of Cliff and Olivia and the River Reapers MC. The story begins with Cliff’s release from prison, while Olivia is away at college, and it’s clear that they’ve known each other, but a lot of backstory and history between them is missing, though there is enough there to make you get these characters and love them. They’ve gone through some rough stuff, they continue to go through some rough stuff, but Cliff is the quintessential MC guy you love to love. The sex scenes are steamy and well-written and the plot in its entirely is really intriguing. Unfortunately, it is somewhat of a cliffhanger, but that’s okay because you get enough to completely be enthralled with the world created in the book but you won’t mind waiting for the next installment.
