*2016 Goodreads Choice Award FinalistBuried deep below the everyday life of our society lives an underground world of nightmares—of violence and murder no one dares speak about. Contracts and laws weave the web of our culture together. Our Masters walk amongst us. They can be our friends, or the ones to make us disappear forever. Where I once had found peace within my existence, it all ended with … found peace within my existence, it all ended with the death of my cruel, yet caring owner. My world shattered and I was taken back to the one place I had hoped to never see again—the cells of Whitlock—a subterranean fortress for slaves who await their new placement.
Now I have no rights. I have no say. My feelings and wellbeing are meaningless. Escape is impossible, but I have nothing left to lose.
To stand any chance of survival, I must give my life as collateral to the highest bidder: Soul for Sale.

A.A. Dark has spun a wicked tale of twisted, epic proportions. Read the warning, my dark friends.
“Only in the darkest recesses of one’s mind will they ever find true freedom. To push the limits of what they’re capable of—to have their character revealed when there are no restraints to restrict the desires within—that is what defines who they are.”
OMG! So, strap on your seatbelt. I’m not quite sure how to form a complete sentence after reading this book. I’m flipping though the book for a second time trying to regain my composure. I feel like I should just warn you of the depravity then let you sail across the bloody sea yourself. No review needed. LOL!
Whitlock a save haven for the truly evil. Masters can gorge on their sickest fantasies for the right amount of money. Yeah, think about some of those stories you read in the news, think about some of those things that turn your stomach. That’s Whitlock’s clientele. 24690 is just another slave destined for torture and ultimately death. This had a different feel than most Slave/Master stories, believe me, I’ve read a ton. This is a new world to immerse myself in.
“There’s beauty in barbarism. You just have to know how to flow with the ferocity or else you may drown.”
I loved this book from the very start. There’s a medieval feel to Whitlock, made me perk up and read with intrigue. I had no idea where I was going, the lights were flipped off and I was fumbling through the maze in complete darkness. More than once I sat staring at my kindle like it grew a head, a head that mocked me. I wasn’t prepared for it, completely blindsided. I love a book I can’t figure out, this one had secrets and motives around every corner. There’s two dark anti-heroes to choose from. I was like, which one is the worst? By the end I was laughing with sweet revenge, yelling at my kindle. I feel like I should warn you for like the tenth time, after the halfway mark it really gets gruesome. The first half is like dancing in a field of flowers, so hang in there if you like pitch black reads, because you will get your fix. The characters are beautifully brutal, there’s no moral compass, just the ways things roll at Whitlock. 24690 aka Everleigh grows within the pages, I fell more and more in love with her. This story was twisted phenomenal.
I loved EVERY single thing about this book. If you like your dark stories more on the horror side with a mix of erotic. I highly recommend.
Don’t trust anyone
This book will disturb you, it should. There is rape and torture; cannibalism and murder within these pages. Characters you think you should feel sympathy towards become warped and twisted so much so it will leave you scrambling for what to feel. This book is a psychologic rollercoaster ride full of blood, violence, and sexual depravity. It’s like a trainwreck you can’t help but keep reading to see what will happen next. So beware, there is no love story here. It is a story of the ugly, animalistic truth that lives within some of us, that just needs the right environment to take over. Welcome to Whitlock.
Alaska Angelini has done a great job with this book. This is one sick and twisted story but I loved it. It has details that I didn’t want to know but I did. And I had difficulty putting it down at the same time I didn’t want to read it. This book is a real page turner and full of mind games. In this book there is always the threat of danger in the background. I am definitely going on the the next book. This is a very dark and gritty book where horrible things happen. This is an amazing book.
Welcome to Whitlock. A place where the Depraved play. From the Cradle to the Grave.
Steeped in tradition, Whitlock is an “underground” playground where nothing is out of bounds for the the rich and mighty and where men can buy a slave and do as they please with them.
At the tender age of 10, Everleigh was snatched from her family and happy life only to be re-birthed as slave 24690 in the White walls of Whitlock and SOLD.
Fourteen years later her Master is murdered and is therefore “now available” to be re-sold. During said time, Bram the Main Master and ruler of Whitlock together with his next in line, West, in their own ways have been watching over 24690 and ultimately protecting her from the true horrors that occur within the walls but over the years they have been surpressing their own personal desires for her. Not surprisingly they both have an agenda and their own personal plans for her until the tables are turned and all hell breaks loose.
Do you think I’m afraid of death? Death and I are secret lovers. We take turns ******* each other every chance we get. Today , it’s my turn to be on top.
During the course of the story we are given a glimpse of the inner most thoughts of Bram, West and Everleigh/24690. Bram in his own way shows a compassionate side but still has trouble hiding the moster that lurks within him. West on the other hand comes off as a good guy but does he truly have a alternate motive for his actions? Everleigh, she just wants to be free.
A.A Dark describes in great detail the atrocities that the Slaves are faced with. Rape, beatings, maimed and murder. Nothing seems to be out of bounds. As for the Masters they are nothing but monsters dressed as Humans.
I’m not sure how to adequately describe this book and give it the justice it deserves! One of the best reads, dark twisted trail of mind-bending romance. It’s not romantic like a typical book you would see but the depravity in the characters certainly builds a world you never want to actually see but you can’t look away. I absolutely loved this book, my first dive into a Pitch Black book recommended by a friend and I was NOT disappointed. This book is the greatest mindfuck I’ve had the pleasure of reading in quite some time!
Holy Motherfucking Shit!!!
There is no word for how cruel this book is, one thing is for sure if you want to read this book, get ready to read about the most horrible things you can imagine and then some, because there are no limits to how fucked up things gets. It’s from page one and it’s only getting darker the longer you get into the book and ends on the biggest cliffhanger.
It may sound like I didn’t like the book, and that’s so not the case, I’m really glad I tried something else, then what I usually read. A.A. Dark writing style is freaking amazing, I can’t wait to read more from her.
It started out dark and got even darker. In a sick and twisted way, I loved it.
I can’t deny how engrossed I was and how suspenseful this story turned out to be. It ended in a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read the next book. For all the dark and twisted fans out there, this is definitely a must read if you’re into bloody barbaric methods. It’s really not for the faint of heart!
While I absolutely loved the dark parts, they weren’t constant, and I almost lost interest when the story turned kind of ‘tame’ – compared to the darkest scenes.
Despite the cruel start I felt that slave 24690 was way too normal in some situations. She was too brave and stubborn to have been there for so many years as a slave. I didn’t really buy into it. She had a lot of temperament, fire and personality that I thought would be long gone after all the years she endured in this place.
I just wasn’t happy with how she developed and how in this barbaric world she found a voice and strength. It seemed unreal for this created world because there were quite some scenarios that weren’t all believable, especially regarding the heroine.
She was daring and demanding, unlike any slaves I’ve read about, and held enough power to get answers to her questions and talk back to masters like she was an equal. I expected her to be a shell of herself, a broken girl. It became ridiculous with how much she was allowed to do because she got away with almost everything, yet she was treated horribly.
Why did they even talk to Everleigh as if she was somebody?! She got asked for her opinion and was told stuff she didn’t need to know. It didn’t give her role as a slave much credibility. She was treated too much as a human being, too normal to convince me of her being a slave.
Bram was the owner of this cruel place. He was an enigma but very intriguing and he didn’t shy away from killing or having people killed on his command. But on the other hand, he couldn’t stay away from a certain girl?! He was so fascinated by her that he let his guard down and showed weakness because of her but didn’t want to take her on as a slave. I didn’t really understand his reasoning for his actions. It was almost contradictorily.
Honestly, I expected more sex in this story as it was about sex slaves. Don’t get me wrong, there was rape and sex, but it was dark mostly for the barbaric ways they all killed each other. There’s a lot of bloody and very disturbing scenes. I liked the dark side, I really did. I only wish there was less unrealistic killing without consequences and more of the inner workings of this house of torture and slavery.
This story was as much about power between the characters and their status at this place as well as on the outside, but also about jealousy over what others had more of or better than oneself. All the men were greedy, barbaric perverts. And just when you think you saw everything, the next moment will change this. It was all so horrifying, such a mess and crazy beyond words.
At the end, despite what was all done to the slave, she was no better than any of those people.
There were also some typos and errors in this book but they didn’t bother me so much. I just noticed them.
I love a dark book and this has to be one of the best I have read. The story is original in that this “Club” is owned and has been by the Whitlocks and the characters are chameleon like. You think they are one way and then they show how wrong you were. I enjoyed every twist and turn in this book. I will definitely be reading book 2.
Oh Lord why can’t I give this more than 5 puny stars? I finished this book in less than 24 hours. I am flying high and feeling exhilarated after reading this. Let’s talk a little about the book shall we? 24690 is about a slave, a woman named Everleigh, a secret fortress of Hell called Whitlock where all manner of sin thrive, and two men, Bram and his right hand man West. You can say there’s a bit of a love triangle here and I’ll tell you, I freaking LOVE Bram. West however can die a horrible, humiliating death. And Everleigh, she’s a woman after my own heart. She is stronger, smarter and so much more than you think she is. She truly shows her strength in the end. Now let’s talk about how I feel. Dark lays out breadcrumbs throughout the story that stick to you and the plot twists are brilliant you can’t help but be pulled into the story. I tumbled into it and kept tumbling til I reached the end and when it was all over I felt so high, so incredibly exhilarated and so freaking excited. EPIC is a word that comes to mind when describing 24690. It’s also disturbing, filled with content that will push your comfort zone and may even disgust you. The warnings don’t lie folks. It’s DARK and deranged, oozing with explicit noncon and dubcon content. I love this book. I can not wait for the next book.
Welcome to Whitlock, where the only way out is in ashes.
How do you describe an experience that lingers in your mind, long after the event itself, is over?
Writing as A.A. Dark, Alaska Angelini lets the monsters out of their cages, and the aftermath of that liberation is a beautiful thing to behold. 24690 is unlike anything I’ve ever come across. Being a life-long fan of the horror genre, even I was unprepared for the brilliance that was let loose.
Reading 24690 was an epic experience… one I have yet to shake. Her writing style invoked thrills, chills and skin crawling moments that stay with you long after the final chapter is closed. She is able to pull the reader into the story, making the reader feel, making them think, and making them fall in love with each character… no matter how twisted and dark they may be.
“You fear everyone. Have you not learned that? We all have secrets. His may be the darkest of them all.”
The characters are deep, powerful and manipulative. Monsters posing as men, dressed in the finery only the wealthy can acquire. 24690 weaves a web around the reader. One of lies, deceit, lust, jealousy and betrayal. There are so many twists and turns, and mind altering scenes, your head and stomach will be left in knots, and you will not know which way is up. Thought provoking, 24690 will have you questioning your own belief system, and leave you wondering, who the monsters really are?
“There is no God in Whitlock. Only the devil, and this one is of your creation. How may I be of assistance to you?”
Told through the eyes of Bram, West and Everleigh, the reader is taken on a journey through Whitlock, a hidden fortress where the rich, powerful and sadistic can buy and use slaves as they see fit. Bram is Whitlock’s owner and Main Master, a title handed down through his family for generations… a position that weighs heavily on him. West is Bram’s best friend and business partner. He hides behind a mask of honor, but there is more to him than meets the eye. Caught between the two, is Slave 24690, formally known as Everleigh. Sold into slavery at 10 years old, she now finds herself back on the auction block. Despite her slave status, will she bow down and continue to be the victim or will she learn to play with the game?
“A wise man once told me, you play the game here, or the game plays you. There’s no room amongst the masters for slaves. You are either on the top, or you’re not.”
Not only is A. A. Dark able to illustration the murkiest aspects of humanity, and make you cringe at the dark, she also gives you a glimpse of the light, making you appreciate the little things life has to offer. Things you take for granted every day, simple things like blades of grass. As I read 24690, I couldn’t help but to think of the life Everleigh has lived and what she has lost. To have everything taken from you, and still be able to find your strength, and hold your own against the evil you see daily, as Everleigh has done, is amazing, and a marvel to behold.
A.A. Dark brings it. The 5 star system is highly inadequate when attempting to rate a work of this magnitude. 24690 is brilliance in its purest form. If you want a story that will knock you out of your comfort zone, one with genuine feeling, that will leave you thirsting for more, than you need to read 24690.
Twisted fabulous very dark erotica. Great read
