In Too Deep is the first book I have read by Fiona Quinn. It’s the first in the Strike Force series, which is a 3 part series that is a part of the larger series, the Iniquus Romantic Suspense Mystery Thrillers. Many of the characters recur, some are the protagonists of their own books and then play supporting roles in other books. For a first time reader of this author, a lot of back story is alluded to and not explained, but then, it’s not really necessary to have it explained in order to figure out this one.
Lacey Stuart works for her uncle, running an art gallery. In the beginning of In Too Deep, the uncle has flown the coop and is living in Bali, leaving Lacey wondering what has been going on. Lacey has recently been in a car crash, has only recently recovered and as the book begins, she escapes an apparent assassination attempt, followed within a few days by a second attempt, from which she is rescued by Deep Del Toro, an operative of Iniquus.
The plot is complicated, revolving around impersonations, stolen identities, and a number of interlinked crimes that are being investigated by various groups within the FBI. Deep and Lacey are well rounded characters whose motivations are plausible, and they make excellent romantic leads. The action can be initially confusing but it all makes sense in the end. Engaging and suspenseful, this is a very solid book. Highly recommended.
Lacy works at her uncle’s art gallery. She is meeting her boyfriend for dinner but he is late. A man is stabbed and men try to grab her but she gets away. She is scared, calls her lawyer, and he sets up a press conference where she is shot at. A man tackles her and races off with her. Deep is a former Marine but works for Iniquus now. He met Lacey months ago and when he sees her on tv, he goes to help her. While they are running from everyone, they try to find out what is going on. Can they figure it out before Lacey is caught?
When I first starting reading, I was confused. It’s was like I was dropped in the middle. As I read it got better but the end could have been better. Fast paced action and suspense.
This is another great addition to the Iniquus Series. Deep met Lacey at a museum when he was working on a case with Lynx and feel in instant like. She however, was dating someone. he leaves her his card in case she changes her mind. Now months later Lacey is in “deep” trouble…like people trying to kill her trouble. She has been thinking of him since the meeting and now calls and gets his answering service at Iniquus. He gets to a press conference her lawyer has called in time to save her from an sniper’s bullet. He gets her away into hiding at Lynx’s house and they try to figure out who is trying to kill her. We have the FBI, CIA, 2 warring crime families from other countries, a mysterious death, action, suspense and two people falling in love.
