Let me say I could not stop thinking about this book. I ended up just reading to the end in one sitting. I love how Rachel Caine writes. This series is a thriller but it is not gross or crass. Rachel has a way of relaying what horrible things these monsters do without making me gross out or have nightmares. Okay after reading Stillhouse Lake I thought where are they going to go with this. Well let me say it was so much better than I could have thought up. Edge of my seat, keep reading to see what is next the whole thing just great. Now I find out there is a book 3 and I think yeah what is Rachel going to write about this time but I trust I will love it too. It’s in my queue but I think I will read something between and let my mind recover a little. This book is book #2 but I think you could read it as a stand alone. I do feel that you will get more out of each character if you read Stillhouse Lake first though.
Can’t wait til the 3rd one comes out!
When’s ex husband has escaped from death row is coming for her and his children. He is playing mind games with her and her from her children and the people has forge a bond with. Sam is helping her to hunt down her ex Melvin Royal before he can find and kill her.
this was book 2 following still house lake. Normally I find that the first book is always the best but I enjoyed this book almost as much as the first. That’s a touch feat especially after I loved the first. it tied into the first well just when you thought you know everything. cant wait for book 3,
This is the second book in the Stillhouse Lake series by Rachel Caine. I was so glad I bought the Stillhouse Lake and Killman Creek at the same time due to the first book ending in a cliffhanger.
The first book is told by Gina/Gwen’s point of view. However, the second book is told by multiple characters points of view. I really enjoyed this change because you could immerse yourself in every character.
I absolutely loved this book and can not wait for Wolfhunter River to be released on March 26, 2019.
I had to read this one after reading Stillhouse Lake. There were a few things that bothered my but overall I felt like the closure was more than satisfying for this series.
First, this isn’t a series you read out of order. It has a continuing story arc and this book picks up where the first ends. Nevertheless, I’ll keep this spoiler free.
Gwen Proctor has to leave Stillhouse Lake to protect her family from the long arm of a powerful network of online trolls who go way beyond empty threats and harassment. They’ve now found a way to shred her credibility with her own network of friends and family, which was already a very short list.
This truly is a thriller that affects you psychologically and emotionally. Gwen is one of the strongest and most formidable characters I’ve encountered. Her commitment to her children and her selflessness was truly admirable. Gina, the woman Melvin Royal married, no longer exists and I’m certain no one was prepared for Gwen. The story includes narratives from both children this time, as well as Sam and Gwen, making this much more intriguing. It has a slow build for the first half and then rockets into warp speed through the end.
It felt like two different types stories but the second half needed the first to create its foundation. It was über scary and exhilarating at times, heartbreaking at others and the writing was just brilliant. The ending will take your breath away. This was a Traveling Friends read, even though I was a little slower to finish than the rest of the group.
This is the second book in the Stillhouse Lake series. It is a linear continuation of events that occurred in the first novel. It is highly recommended that you read as a set. The book starts out full throttle, sucking the reader into another twisted plot laid forth by a gifted author. The characters have been adeptly developed into individuals in this installment, allowing the reader to invest in each one separately rather than as a unit. The storyline is held together nicely with the support of this complex characterization. The multifaceted dynamics of the plot are haunting and riveting all at the same time as the reader is taken on a trip into the mind of a deranged individual. Rachel Caine has delivered once again. Highly recommended. 5 stars.
Spoiler alerts!! Ok, so let me start by repeating a lot of what I said in the review of Stillhouse Lake: Rachel Caine delivers a tense, action packed book. The series absolutely draws you in and the books are very tense. That said, they are also not realistic — than goodness — and while the premise or a woman unknowingly married to a serial killer working out of their own home in a very sadistic way is barely plausible, the idea that she has created a new life and a ultra secret techie group connected with said husband, who also just happens to escape and come after her and the budding boyfriend who just so happens to be one of the victims relatives … you get it. So don’t expect believable, or even barely plausible, but somehow, some way this book draws you in and will not let you stop reading. Go figure.
Part two is equally improbable: Gwen is again falsely accused of being complicit in the murders, and the techie group fabricates evidence that they distribute to key players in the drama, including her own kids (her son by the way, is now communicating with dad the serial killer). Gwen and Sam set out to kill Mel (the serial killer husband) but Gwen is captured and slotted for death but almost single handedly escapes. Again tense, can’t stop reading. What I can’t figure out is how there is a part 3 coming?
Yet again I stayed up late to finish the second half of this book…same as book 1. I don’t know what to say because I suck with the words and I don’t want to give an accidental spoiler. I have no idea what the next ( and last? ) is about but I’m ready for it. Pity it’s not out until next year.
Never finished.
Borrowed it for free from a special Amazon deal to borrow multiple books per month. When I was 80% done and only continuing because it was there on my Kindle, January turned to February and the book disappeared from my device because the special deal was over. I was mildly annoyed but then relieved that I could move on to something else.
I felt in this one the characters’ problems got tiresomely complicated, usually due to their own ridiculous choices. Yes, the choices were within the bounds of believability and well explained, but I was nevertheless exasperated.
Dean Koontz’s Jane Hawk series is lightyears better with the same kinds of plot elements: Mother protecting child (children), bad guys out to get her, conspiracies, friends that might not be trustworthy after all, etc.
I loved this book! It’s a continuation of the original Stillwater Lake book and it jumps right in! I couldn’t read fast enough to get to the end and see what happened. Anxiously awaiting the next one!
This follow up to Stillhouse Lake is as good as the first one. Rachel Caine is a master storyteller.
I just finished this book and I’m still a little stunned. Great book but it ended too soon. Right as I got totally invested, it was over. I really enjoyed Stillhouse Lake and the writing, but this one took me a little longer to get into with the change in POV. I wasn’t expecting to change between 4 different characters. It was fine once I was acclimated, but it was a rocky start. Great story! Great Series! Wicked twisted!
this is a wonderful series that I stayed up all night to finish. Absolutely get all the books in the series and then take a couple of days off and just read!
thrilling and just as good as the first, great book
This is a real page turner with twists and turns and high speed adrenaline.
I flew through it in 2 days.
I loved this series. You need to read the Stillhouse lake first. I couldn’t put it down. Best series I’ve read in along time.
Wow, my heart is still pounding… I just pre-ordered the third book in this series, though I don’t quite know what direction this will go in… Wish it weren’t so long, until December, before it comes out!
