Full of action, suspense, romance, angst, twists, and intrigue – everythig I want to find in a romantic suspense story. A well woven fast paced plot with quirky interactions, deceptions, and lies throughout the story that keep you guessing. Loved Andy’s spirit and her closet full of disquises. So want to know more about “Hugh”.
Amazing book to read. I couldn’t put it down at all. Loved this romantic book so much. I highly recommend it.
This heart-pounding thriller grabbed me by the scruff of my shirt on page one and never let go. A sharply written, fast-paced story, with sophisticated dialog, Baker’s Dozen has it all: A teasing romance to spice up and complicate the plot, nail-biting suspense, and a MacGyver-in a dress heroine who had more disguises than most women have clothes in their wardrobes that I cheered on at every turn.
St. Louis-based Andy Baker had taken over the role of an investigative reporter and his pen name after her father disappeared while looking into questionable practices at local auto repair shops. Andy’s troubles soon began after she exposed the cheating of customers by a particular shop run by powerful Michael Tyrone and Imperial Energy and she realizes she’s in over her head. If she’s going to take them down, she needs help. The mysterious Hugh and his and his numerous cover identities and an arsenal of bad-guy-catching skills shows up. Despite Hugh’s formidable creds, Andy can never tell when Hugh is lying or telling the truth and she wonders if he can be trusted.
Baker’s Dozen is a tightly written, well-crafted story that despite Andy’s amazing number of ways to get into and out of trouble since the author did an incredible job of research, this is a believable and enjoyable tale. This page-turner kept me up well past my bedtime. I absolutely loved Baker’s Dozen. If you’re looking for a thriller with a heart, this book should be the first one on your to-read list. I give Baker’s Dozen a five star and if you love suspense and action, you will too.

Baker’s Dozen turned out to be better than I expected. I don’t usually read lots of romantic suspense and this one caught me off guard. It’s not just a typical romance plot. It’s so much more and I LOVED IT!
Andy is a journalist who’s not afraid to investigate to uncover truths that involve exposing shady businesses. But this time she realizes she is in way over her head, and she needs help if she wants to take a powerful organization down.
Hugh and his amazing abs . . . *swoon*
I loved their chemistry and the way they worked together. A romance filled with secrets that kept me wondering… can Hugh be trusted?
It was never boring and I found myself unable to break away from it for long. It was a fast paced Crime Romantic Suspense that kept my heart pumping with tons of adrenaline and kept me guessing on who the bad guy is right to the end.
I never saw that ending coming, even though I had my suspicions because things weren’t adding up… but still.
WOW
The possibilities… this book could be the start of a great series. (just saying lol)
I have to applaud the author for how she’s crafted this story and these characters. This could have easily turned into a mediocre romance but there were so many more layers to this book! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed pulling back each and every one, and I can’t wait to see what this author has in store.
I’m going to be the odd man out here. As I’m reading previous reviews I see that Rachel said that Baker’s Dozen is more convoluted than a pile of spaghetti. She is most definitely correct!!! However, she lost me with the rest of her review. I didn’t find these characters particularly well developed or compelling. Oh, to be sure, they started out with a lot of potential and I figured they would be wonderfully written. It didn’t quite pan out that way for me. I didn’t feel either of them grew or developed throughout the story.
The action is definitely nonstop and high impact. I’ll give you that. For me, though, that is what made the entire story seem to jump around too much. It made it hard to keep all of the characters straight. You know they are all connected somehow, but there is so much going on and so many people involved that it all gets lost in the shuffle. The first half of the book is well done. After the first half, I feel like the author tried to cram too much into too little time.
There are some clever plot twists. The story has a lot of potential; I just didn’t feel it was developed as well as it could have been. There was too much action, too much going on, and too many characters. The impact of the story and the true main characters got lost in the minutia. Also, I’ve gotta tell you, most of this story is totally unbelievable. But maybe that’s the point. This is a light read with plenty of action and bizarre circumstances. It does have a HEA, well, at least I think it does. It’s definitely not your typical HEA.
