So my head hurt. A lot.
I feel like this is going to be really epic. That being said, this felt like an introduction more than a actually book, if you can say it like that?
Not much actually happens in this, action wise. We do get a lot of hint, that something we should be aware of will happen, bits and teases, but not really anything that makes much sence?
Back to my head hurting, there’s a lot of explanation of how the magic system works, and I can’t seem to quite get it?
Our main character is kinda fun
“Who the hell is Johnson?”
“Empty energy drink can number fifteen.”
This had me snort and think, yes, she’s my kinda woman. And even though this one didn’t really grip me, I have a feeling it will develop into something original and exciting. And who can say no, after reading this?
“How many wishes have there been that have changed the world itself?”
“Too many to count.”
Not What I Expected!!
Jo is a hacker and on a job with her bestfriend when things go badly wrong!! They are out of options & can’t escape. Tragedy strikes which leaves Jo terrified, heartbroken and desperate. She remembers something her Grandmother told her years ago, it’s ridiculous but she’s out of options any way so tries it!!
Jo made a wish. It put her in ‘The Society of Wishes’. Here she becomes one of the 7! They have made all made wishes too, throughout History, and they all contain magic. It’s this magic that’s used by the 8th person and their Leader,Snow!! He is the ‘wish granter ‘. The 7 use the magic to help prepare the way, bridge the gap, from the wish being spoken to the wish being granted.
(As a reader this was all rather convoluted, I felt. Also Jo’s magic is hacking Well destruction actually?! I don’t know, it was weird)
I’d imagine if you are into time, being ‘out of time’ in a dimensional type of way and/or into shifting realities this book would be right up your street!! It feels more on the cusp of sci-fi than fantasy to me. When I read about ‘magic’ I want it a bit more in my norm, I guess I’m not that adventurous!
The writing & world building were good and I liked most of the characters. Unfortunately this isn’t for me and the blurb didn’t really indicate where this story would actually go.
I am positive others will absolutely LOVE this tale though, as I can see it’s appeal!

I received a review copy for review consideration. This does not affect my opinion of the book.
I found this book to be enjoyable and a book I didn’t want to put down. I enjoyed the new concept laid out in the book and it sets it apart from other books. Jo was an interesting strong female lead and the other characters enhanced her story. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series to fill in the story lines that haven’t been completed.
I came to Elise via the Air Awakend Series. I loved that series and so it was natural to look into her other works and see what to read next. I fully intended to read the Loom Series. But I decided to start with this one instead.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. The world building, the characters, the plot, I liked all of it. The story had a constant pull throughout with plenty of tell me now darnit! I will definitely be reading on. The reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 was that it still didn’t have the same pull as my most loved books, but great nonetheless!
