The new novel from the bestselling author of Lone Rider. Sometimes the war comes to you . . . After serving as a Navy medic, Dawson Callahan is back in the States and ready to start over. Leaving his native Texas, he heads for the wide open spaces of Wyoming, where he finds work as a wrangler. True, he’ll mainly be wrangling chickens—and wrangling Sarah Carter’s granny, who’s still spry, but … chickens—and wrangling Sarah Carter’s granny, who’s still spry, but in need of a little caregiving. But ranch work is ranch work, and it’s hard to turn down a job offer from the beautiful Sheriff Carter—especially when she deputizes him as one of her lawmen.
Sarah loves her grandmother, but with her law enforcement career keeping her busy, they could both use some help from a strong, steady man. And policing Lincoln County has only gotten tougher since a merciless drug lord arrived in the area. When Sarah takes a bullet on the job, it’s Dawson who comes to her rescue—and though they both thought they left war behind in Afghanistan, they’ll do whatever it takes to protect what’s theirs, even if it means facing down traumas they’ve buried for years. Because love isn’t for the faint of heart . . .

Wind River Lawman (Kindle Edition) by Lindsay McKenna Book 6 in the Wind River Series and again Lindsay does not disappoint. Thanks to #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. It is always great to visit the Bar C Ranch and all the great vets … Dawson Callahan is a returning vet who was a Navy medic and Sarah Carter is a vet and the sheriff. She hires Dawson to be a “wrangler” for her grandmother Gertie… There is nonstop action and fun from the beginning .. They both have PTSD and share a tragic loss in their pasts. This is a great love story that has laughs, tears, danger and of course a very HEA. I can’t wait for the next book in the series HOME TO WIND RIVER.
I found this one to be the best of the stories in this series.
A touching story about two individuals, both ex-military characters, that continue to honor what they stand for.
Sarah Carter is the Sheriff in Wyoming , who needs someone to help her grandmother in her ranch. Dawson leaves Texas to work the ranch and in doing so, ends up assisting Sarah in fighting the drug lord invading their territory.
Much faster paced than previous stories with an engaging plot and complex characters you will come to love.
I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Choose your favorite drink and go to your special reading place. You’ll find it hard to put this book down. A female sheriff and a gorgeous cowboy – wrangler- meet when he applied for a job. Both served in Afghanistan and were battle hardened. The book weaves a story of empowerment, danger, family,….and love. Don’t miss this book!
WOW!! This was a great story with intrigue, excitement, romance and a beautiful HEA! I fell in love with Sarah and Dawson and their relationship, although they were both broken people, they were still able to complete each other (corney but true). LOL!! Highly recommended!!
Wind River Lawman is a contemporary story about two people helping each other to heal emotionally. Sarah is the Sheriff in town and she hires Dawson to help her grandmother Gertie. As situations arise Sarah and Dawson end up spending a lot of time together. While they grow close, danger isn’t far behind.
It’s wonderful that this series is about veterans, their very real life problems and the strength that some have in them to survive.
PTSD from serving in the military can come in many forms and manifest in many ways and all color the life of the person who suffers from it. Post-military service jobs can provide a trigger for those who suffer from it. Living is hard, but with PTSD it’s much harder to live and find romance that lasts.
Nonstop action
A former military medic leaves Texas to find another life in Wyoming. He always wanted to see that part of the country and after serving his country and being in Afghanistan three times, he is ready for new beginnings. What kind of job will he find; who will give him a chance to make that new life; and, will he find someone to share it with? This is the story-line as he meets the Sheriff of Lincoln County; gets Gertie’s approval for a job; and everyone trusts him. There is action, gun battles and all is good in making a great read. I loved it!
Love the series!
Lindsay McKenna is an author I always go to for a good, interesting, and happy ending read.
I enjoyed the whole series very much.
I enjoyed the book!
Love this book
Loved the story, but the reader tried to imitate a Texas drawl with disastrous effects. Talking slower is not a Texas accent, it made the characters seem slow on the up-take and dumb sounding. I enjoyed reading the book much more than listening to the reader perform.
Holds your interest from the beginning. Enjoyable reading
Wind River Lawman, the latest addition to the Wind River Valley series by Lindsay McKenna, is a great addition to the series. The lead characters, Dawson Callahan and Sheriff Sarah Carter, are a wonderful addition to the residents in Lincoln County, Wyoming. Dawson is a strong, kind, good man and an ex-medic while serving in the military. Sheriff Sarah Carter having also served in the Marines and returned home to run for her father’s Sheriff position (and voted in by the people in the county) is a very strong willed person and very caring of the people under her protection. From the moment they meet there is non-stop action. Sarah is called out on an emergency and deputizes Dawson to assist as a medic. The call turns out to be a trap for the Sheriff and they are both nearly killed. Talk about a way to get to know one another! Sarah hires Dawson to be a caregiver for her grandmother who needs help with her health while she continues to run the business she and her late husband created and ran for many years. Dawson and Sarah are attracted to each other, but are fearful of moving too fast. The sweet romance is a treasure to read. Then Sarah is shot while defending herself against Brian Elson, a really bad villain in the county! Fortunately Sarah isn’t too badly injured, but she is required to take off work and stay at home for several weeks. Unfortunately, the sons of Brian are determined to kill Sarah because she killed Brian (in self-defense) so she cannot stay at her house for fear the brothers will attempt to kill her. Sarah cannot stay with her parents or her grandmother for fear that the cruel brothers would not hesitate to injure or kill her loved ones. Dawson and Sarah come up with another location for her to stay at and go through the healing process. They know that the brothers will continue to hunt for her. How Sarah and Dawson stay alive is fascinating reading! I highly recommend this book! It was a great book to read!
