Laci had just aged out of foster care and was jobless and sleeping on friends’ couches when she met Colin. He gave her the loving attention and firm-handed discipline she needed, and soon they were married and living happily in Haywood Hills, a community of likeminded people where a man spanking his wife when she is naughty is nothing out of the ordinary. Then Colin died of a sudden, tragic … tragic illness, and Laci has been lost ever since. After a year of increasingly irresponsible behavior on her part, things finally come to a head. When Laci invites outsiders into Haywood Hills and her recklessness puts everyone at risk, she is given a choice. She can accept the guidance and correction she clearly requires or leave the community.
The man tasked with taking her in hand is Eric Renard, a close friend of Colin’s whom Laci has always considered too stern. When Laci reluctantly agrees to the community’s demands, she quickly finds herself over her handsome new guardian’s knee for a painful, embarrassing bare-bottom spanking in front of a room full of witnesses. Eric makes it clear that he will not put up with Laci’s sharp tongue and defiant attitude, and over the coming weeks his intimate, shameful punishments leave her with blushing cheeks and a burning backside on more than one occasion.
Eric’s bold dominance rekindles Laci’s passion in a way she thought nothing ever could, and part of her cannot help yearning for him to claim her properly, but is she truly ready to put aside the past and make a place in her heart for him?

When her husband dies, our heroine is left at loose ends in a fetish community with no one to help guide her. So the community takes it upon themselves to fix that.
This is a dark romance story with strong elements of D/S and spankings. Normally, this would be right up my alley, but there were some things in this story that just didn’t work for me. For one, there was too much angst. I understand that there would be trauma after the loss of her husband, but I don’t want to read page after page of her dwelling on that. It just isn’t any fun for the reader. And then their is the community and her guardian. None of these seem to have our heroine’s best interest in mind, just their own. So while I enjoyed the steamy aspects of the story, the overall plot was a let down and definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the story.
Recommended for fans of spanking and domestic discipline.

It’s my fav contemporary spanking story. 😉
Poor Laci, she married, and was rescued by Colin at age 19, right after she aged out of foster care. He moved them to a BDSM community where he kept tight reins on her, but he also adored her. When he dies of cancer, Laci goes into deep mourning, and then also begins to act out, doing things that are not good for her, but also puts the community at risk. To keep from being kicked out she agrees to be held accountable to a good friend of her deceased husband, Eric. Colin always treated Laci as his Little Girl, and she went along with it because she too adored Colin and would do anything to make him happy. But Eric is no daddy dom, and that leads to Laci exploring another facet of her submissiveness. The author does a nice job of showing how diverse BDSM is, and that one can have more than one interest in the subject. It was a well written book, and very interesting.

Laci has been in morning for over a year after losing her husband Colin. They live in a BDSM community and have very strict laws about who visits the community. After one of her artist friends takes pictures the community calls a special meeting and decide she needs someone to reign her in. Eric was Colin’s best friend and had asked him to watch over Laci and control her money. They vote that Eric should be the one to take her in hand. Let the fireworks begin. What a delightful story. I really liked how Eric molded Laci from what Colin wanted from her into what she really wanted with Eric. Marlee Wray did a great job with this story.

Taking Her in Hand features a community set up to allow like-minded people to live together while enjoying aspects of BDSM. Laci is recently widowed and her grief has made her careless, inviting outsiders into her home where they may see neighbours engaged in erotic activities. A decision is made; she either leaves or is disciplined. A love story with a highly-charged erotic nature. As with all of Marlee’s works, what raises this is the believable characters who the reader cares for.
