This third book in the Hogan Bros. Series is the most emotional one and I loved every word of it!!!!
This is the third book in the Hogan Brothers series, but can be read as a standalone. I recommend reading book one and two before reading this one because it does give insight into the secondary characters and makes for a more enjoyable read.
This third book centers around Lochlan (aka Loch) and Sage. Loch is the youngest of the Hogan brothers and in my opinion the most feeling of the three. He is also part owner of Hogan Bros.’ Mechanics and Restoration along with his two older brothers. Loch first sees his angel when she comes to the shop with her mother to have their car looked at. He feels the pull the instant their eyes meet. Sage is beautiful, but she’s also young and the first few times Loch sees her he doesn’t even know her name or how old she is, but Loch can see the pain and sadness in her eyes and he wants to make her happy and he’s pretty sure her home life is what’s making her feel this way. Sage was born and raised in the closed off community that is run by her father, the bishop. Get this book today to see what happens when these two come together. Be forewarned this book will definitely stir up your emotions and keep you guessing throughout the story to the very end. With the amount of brain washing, lies, betrayals and everything else this book is an exciting read and a great book to close out the Hogan Brothers series.
I’ve read One Chance (Sophia and Nox’s story) and One Choice (Levi and Hayes’s story) who are both older than Lochlan (he’s the baby brother of all of the three Hogan brothers), who are alpha males, protective, possessive, passionate, tender and loving towards their women, Sophia and Hayes, so I knew Lochlan was going to be the same as his brothers. A caveman with a soft side only reserved for his mate 😉
I loved the connection that Sage and Lochlan had with each other they didn’t need words, their eyes communicated how they felt
Sage has been through so much in her young life (between her upbringing, her father’s cold demeanor and how he wants to control everything even going so far as to try to marry Sage to an evil and older man, Morgan; luckily she escapes from all those burdens) but she’s a survivor and with Lochlan’s help and his family’s support, especially his mom who I love 🙂 she’ll have a real and loving family; the family she’s always wanted to have, at the end, she’s happy, loved and filled with joy with her children and her man, Lochlan and his entire family and their growing families
Loved the end and I can’t wait for more from K.L. Donn 🙂
Unchained by K.L. Donn is book Three in the Hogan Brother’s Series. This is the story of Lochlan Hogan and Sage Marlowe. I have read the previous book which added to my enjoyment of this one but I did feel it could be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Sage is a daughter who is being raised in a cult with a very abusive father who has plans to marry her off to a very abusive man. When her mother starts having car trouble it leads her to meet the Hogan brother who run a garage. But Sage is the one that catches her eye and makes her wish for a better life. Sage is the youngest of his brothers and is more of the quiet one but he is hit with instant love for Sage. When he starts to feel that she isn’t being treated right he learns of her deadly circumstance.
This was a great page turning read for me.
“One day at a time—this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering. – Ida Scott Taylor
Enduring words from a novelist born well before our time, and an apt description for KL Donn’s Unchained, the story of Lochlan, youngest Hogan brother, and Sage Marlowe, daughter of a Bible-thumping fanatic who used his power to terrorize his people.
KL Donn caps off her Hogan Brother’s series by tackling an issue not always acceptable to most readers—the use of religion to bend others to their own twisted agenda or beliefs.
I agree with the author when she said that the story was not an easy one to write. I myself felt heavy-hearted going into the first few chapters, reading how Sage suffered through degradation at the hands of her own father who, in the guise of purifying her supposed “unclean” spirit, subjected her to physical and emotional abuse.
Thank God, then, for Lochlan, whose faith and love for Sage enabled her to find the courage to break free and learn to find herself again.
If you are someone who does not like the idea of reading a romance story revolving around religious beliefs, I still would encourage you to read Unchained. Or if you are of a particular faith who grew up with a strict belief system on the bible, read it, still. Read it for the hope, love and faith that Lochlan and Sage want to share with you. Read it, for the simple reason, that whatever happens, whatever experiences we may go through, faith, hope, and love will always pull us through.
From the moment Lochlan Hogan laid eyes on the beautifully mysterious girl with ash blond hair and crystal blue eyes, he knew she was the one for him. The problem was he had no idea who she was and she was never allowed to speak in his presence.
Sage Marlowe was a child of her upbringing. Unfortunately for her, that upbringing was based on a strict religion preached by her father on an isolated compound. When she is finally allowed to accompany her mother off the compound for the first time, she realizes there is much more to life than she ever realized . . .including the strong and handsome mechanic that helped fix her family’s station wagon. Seeing how others outside of the compound live, if only in brief glimpses allow Sage to realize that she wants much more from life and is willing to fight to get it . . . even if that means going against her god and her family.
Loch realizes the beautiful Sage is sheltered and underage. But, he yearns for her . . . he also somehow knows she is in danger. He’ll do anything he can to make sure she is safe and happy, even if it means breaking down the walls of the compound she lives in.
Together, Loch and Sage must fight for their chance at love and a life together against everything they have ever known. Will it be enough to break Sage free from a life she no longer wants and allow Loch to give her everything she has ever dreamed of and more?
KL Donn has really outdone herself with Unchained! I couldn’t wait to find out about the mysterious young girl who kept appearing at the Hogan brother’s garage and this story was all that I could have asked for and more. It has more twists and turns than I could have ever seen coming!
I love Lochlan (he is now most definitely my favorite of the brothers! His love for Sage never wavers, even though they hardly know one another. He is sure and steadfast and ready to battle anything and anyone he needs to in order to slay her dragons.
Sage, while barely an adult has seen more than her share of hard times. She is much older and wiser than her years and determined to get the future she wants and deserves even if it means questioning everything she has ever been taught.
Theirs is a beautiful love story of determination and discovery, of romance and strength as they fight their way towards one another against all odds and obstacles constantly thrown in their path.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the way KL Donn has woven this plot to give Loch and Sage the story they deserve. 5 stars!
