RickA … kidnapped me would rather kill me than let me go.
Rick
A century ago, I lost my family. While on the hunt for a murderer, I found my future. Mya’s my true mate. She’s my gift from the gods…the one woman I’m supposed to love and treasure forever.
And the rogue wolf shifter who took her from me will die.
Even if I have to break the law I’ve sworn to uphold to steal her back. Nothing keeps a shifter from his one true mate.

This book is so good.
Rick and Mya are fated mates who should have met years before they did. But love and fate have had plans for them all along, they just had to go through things first. What an amazing read.
I have an addiction to this series! Obviously, I’m reading them out of order, but it just doesn’t matter! I was drawn into the drama of the plot right from the beginning, I felt bad for Mya, but I still saw her strength. Rick was a little pathetic at the beginning, but he gets better, he grows on you. The atmosphere of the Council dynamics was toxic for women, so a lot of the passion I felt reading this probably stemmed from my ire being stoked with all the misogyny and oppression that Mya and to a lesser extent other women were faced with, in the book. the plot thickens when Todd and his Uncle show more of their vile selves out on the pages, and just when you think it’s all good in the wolf hood, PLOT TWIST!!! I stayed engaged from beginning to end and can’t wait to read Ilan’s and Sara’s story next! I’m going to try to read the rest in order, lol
I’ve learned that I’m a sucker for a brooding Gothic hero (in books – they’re a ton of work in real life). Rick is a true wounded warrior, in desperate need of a reason to keep going. Mya has been forced to make herself ‘small’ in order to survive, but she’s strong and fierce. All she needs is the freedom to show off those qualities. This book immediately captivated my imagination. From the very first page I was sucked into the story and was prepared to fight anyone preventing me from finishing it. This is a very unique perspective on shifter culture from everything I’ve previously read. I’m not really a fan of how very misogynistic their world is, but I appreciate that the author shows us heroes and heroines that are working to make a difference in that situation. This book has a very twisty plot that’s as much about the villain’s misdirection as it is about the romance between our leading couple. I can’t wait to dive back in and read more about this world.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
This book is amazing . the mind of a obsess wolf what he would do to keep his family name alive, but love win at the end
This is the latest instalment in Nancy Corrigan’s Royal Kagan shifter world series. Freeing His Mate is the first in the Shifter’s Affairs series, but the underlying storyline is woven throughout, connecting all the series’. Rick meets Mya at the bar where she works and realizes she’s his true mate, only to find out that she has been bonded to another shifter unwilingly. Rick will do anything to free Mya so they can be together. As he pursues his investigation, which involves her bonded breeding partner, he uncovers a secret about her and her unborn children that will change their lives. I love the common thread running through all of these shifter books and the recurring characters. I anxiously awayt the next in this series!
Freeing His Mate is the first book in the Shifter Affairs series, and it is set in the same world as the Royal Kagan series. That being said, this review is for this book alone. And what a book it is! You have an ‘old’ wolf, depressed and contemplating suicide. He meets a waitress who perks his interest, only to find out that she is bonded unwillingly to somebody else as his breeding partner. Throw in an old murder, drugs rampaging through a town, assassins, new partners, cute kids, and you have a book that will keep you engrossed from start to finish.
Whilst this is the first book in the new series, we do reunite with some old favourites of mine from the Royal Kagan series. These appearances enhance this story without taking it over, giving it a depth and a richness. There are new characters to grow fond of, and wait impatiently for their story. A perfect combination of new and old, guaranteed to satisfy.
This story was exceedingly well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading. The scenes flowed smoothly from one to the next, and the pacing was perfect. An absolute stunner of a first book, that will definitely leave you wanting more. Highly recommended by me.

Tough Choices in this Exciting Shifter Story!!
The Shifter Worlds created by Ms. Corrigan are ingenious and exhilarating.
In her shifter world Shifter Affairs is to be avoided at all costs. This story focuses on Rick who is a member of Shifter Affairs working on solving a murder. Rick lost his breeding partner 40 years ago, and is only living half a life. When he meets his true mate he is appalled that she is mated and has children.
Mya was tricked into becoming a breeding partner for Todd. Her daughters are considered a “waste”, and the current pregnancy may result in greater danger if they are males. Mya is only required to see Todd on the night of the full moon; when she meets Rick she knows that interest in him could lead to both their deaths – all permissible by law under their current situation.
The “perfect” catch-twenty-two story, with brutal shifter laws, fated mates, and the willingness to die for your loved one. Another excellent shifter story, which I highly recommend!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
This book kept me awake all night reading it. Rick was a fantastic character that I enjoyed. He had lots of great points with the way he was with Mya. Mya herself was a likeable character that I also enjoyed. The story had lots of mystery and interesting secondary characters that I look forward to seeing more of. Great plot with some mystery as more and more get revealed throughout the story. Secondary characters were also well done. This book also had lots of chemistry with some sexy time to keep everyone happy with a HEA. I’ll be looking for more books from this author. Loved it!! I am giving my voluntary honest review of a book I received from the author.
Fantastic read with plenty of intrigue, drama, action, and of course steamy romance. This enjoyable and entertaining read will definitely have you at the edge of your seat. I wasn’t expecting this to be so interesting. I’m looking forward to reading more books in Shifter Affairs series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no minority compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I enjoyed the storyline and enjoyed watching Mya and Rick fall for each other, despite the circumstances.
I did find the writing to be, at times, repetitive, especially in their conversations. I also had to grind my teeth each time someone referenced that the shifter world didn’t really offer any rights to females, especially the so-called “breeding partners”. Yes, our leading male laments that it’s terrible that their society views women that way… but they still all mostly accept it as so.
But I did enjoy the story, enjoyed how the plot unfolded and how it looped our side characters in. It also appears that Mya and Rick should, at least, have a supporting role going forward onto our next couple, which I look forward to.
Freeing His Mate is the first book in the Shifter Affairs series, but is connection to Ms. Corrigan’s Shifter World universe. Mya is a female shifter with no rights and her world quickly tumbling around her. When she meets Rick, she thinks she’s just providing him a moment of happiness in the bar she works at, but she soon realizes that he means much more to her than she ever thought. But will their forbidden love survive her breeding partner’s bond and family?
This book is super intense, full of a lot of drama, world building, passion, and Rick and Mya steal the show. There’s a lot of themes of coming into your own power, realizing your own strength and potential, and coming to terms with a rough past to realize that it’s made you the best version of yourself. I thought sometimes this book was difficult to read through because of the lack of power that female shifters potentially have, but I loved the scenes where the females were able to fight for themselves and those they love. Mya, bless her, has such a hard past, but I love the hope and trust she’s willing to find when she begins to fall for Rick. Rick is someone you can depend on, one who fights for all that’s his, and I really enjoyed his character. I think that there felt like too much going on in this book, though, and I found myself getting distracted from the story by previous storyline and making sure that I wasn’t forgetting any important details. Otherwise, I enjoyed this book! I’m drawn to the characters in this story and things get set up for future books, too!
