I already died once.I’m not doing it again.Turns out cheating death isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I thought my new life reaping souls for a vampire warlord couldn’t get much worse. Until someone framed me for murder.Which is when I discovered there’s no such thing as rock bottom—only free fall. Now I have the FBI breathing down my neck, trying to put me in cuffs for the crime. But going to jail … me in cuffs for the crime. But going to jail is the least of my worries. Because a rain goddess on this island city I call home believes I deserve the death penalty. And if I don’t clear my name, I’ll be dead—this time for good.

This was a fascinating romp through a totally original world populated with the predictable supernatural creatures but then a bunch of extra new ones as well, and a very original plot line. The (anti) heroine is tough, gritty and surprisingly adorable character that you definitely want on your side but are still rooting for. A supernatural whodunnit with a twisty plot that had me guessing who the bad guy(s) are and I was totally wrong! So many different characters with their own motivations swirling around each other that it was like being inside a literary tornado where you were waiting to see when the ride would end and holding on tight until it did!
This is a most unusual but enjoyable story. Eden a former criminal brought back to be the personal reaper to a criminal warlord. Pressed into service for a few years everything is going ok until the night an assassin and a murder occur in her isolated property. Eden in caught up in various plots and schemes of a vampire, a goddess, an immortal treasure hunter and the FBI. It’s a very bad night that spins her life into unexpected places. Now she has to clear her name, find the parties responsible and figure out why there’s a mysterious new reaper on the island.
A most thrilling story from start to finish. Lots of twists and turns and a very unexpected reunion. Definitely a great beginning to a series.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
Love this series. Great as “stand alone” books as well. The main character hooked me. Great plot development. Characters are fantastic.
First book I have ever read about a soul reaper and it was awesome!
Its about a girl, Eden Hunter, who was killed for her skills of being a great con artist. She does come back alive but as a reaper and on an island that is filled with warlocks, vampires, goddesses, werewolves, and other mystical creatures. She was revived by a very old vampire that she now works for. Her job is to obtain 7 souls every week for 7 years and she is not to leave the Island til this is fulfilled. But soon she finds out that she is no longer the only reaper! Which her boss does not like and tells her to take her out. On her mission to find this other reaper she runs into some trouble with the FBI.
It was a really great book looking forward to reading more. After this book I am loving the author and will probably read more of his books
One of the best paranormal books I have read in a long time. The trilogy just flowed so ceaslessly and the characters were fleshed out perfectly and interactions between Kai and Eden was just great.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect. This came to as a ‘first one is free’ book in the series and I was on a flight and wanted to see what it was. I was really pleased and couldn’t put it down and read it cover to cover. Looking forward to the rest of the trilogy and really enjoyed this different take on the supernatural world.
Good blend of mystical and reality in a well done storyline that even the smallest characters have depth with a great twist on life after death.
This book was ok. The story was a bit hard to follow.
Very interesting read. Lots of action.
introduced the concept of soul reaper to me. I’d never thought of a soul as being a solid object.
Loved it
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
Holy shiznet!!! This story was awesome. Eden is one kick-ass woman. Ok, Reaper. This story had it all. A mystery, well more than one, humans, supes galor, even a Goddess. I won’t tell anymore because I don’t want to ruin this in any way. I really want you to read it. I can’t wait to read the next story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
If you like your paranormal with a twisted storyline and salty language and attitude galore, this book by D N Erikson is absolutely for you. I so enjoyed the snarky attitude and language he gives his main character, all the while the reader just knows she is going to get herself in deeper and deeper trouble with the powers that control her second chance at life. I am very eagerly looking forward to reading the next book in this series. (02/26/2018 – This is a rather late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems as Rain Dance.)
