Its so well written!
This the first book I have of Emmanuelle de Maupassant but it won’t be my last. Emmanuelle’s writing is excellent and her scenes made me feel like I was there with the characters in Victorian England. The characters cohesively came together and made sense. Maud is a strong female character. She leads a dual life that she hides from all her Society friends. Henry, once he meets Maud, he is obsessed with her. All he wants to do is make her his wife and protect her from Society’s censure. These two have some intense and salacious scenes! Loved this book!
This two book set kept me totally captivated as each page was turned I was drawn into the well written storyline and characters that were written with great detail that I remained totally hooked until the last page of the last book was turned!
Dark, STEAMY, Gothic and EROTIC, Opened my eyes to a whole new & thought provoking trope
Amazingly detailed and beautifully written, “NOIRE,” is the newest offering of author Emmanuelle De Maupassant. It is the erotic tale of Maude and Henry who met in the most unusual way. This lengthy tale takes place during Victorian times and its gothic undertone was new for this reader. The scenes are STEAMY and EROTIC, the writing is superb, and the plotlines are complex and compelling. Author de Maupassant even styled her prose to that era which gave the story an “other-worldly” feel. While it may not be for all, I found “NOIRE” to be unique and entertaining. I loved reading about women, who had so little power or say during this era, were able to step around the walls built around them. Although the first part, “The Gentlemen’s Club” included more debauchery than any other book I’ve read, that same debauchery is an essential part of this dark gothic tale and in understanding the suspense and relationships which surround Maude and Henry. The trademark passion of every de Maupassant novel is present, but “NOIRE” does not offer light BDSM. “NOIRE” is a much deeper, more erotic, and darker than most romances. As a fan of Emmanuelle de Maupassant’s writing, I volunteered to read “NOIRE” and this is my honest review. It is an excellently written novel which has earned the 5-STAR recommendation with the warning; “NOIRE” is NOT your average spicy romance. It is a full-length novel which is written as a period piece in the manner of the period’s literature. It is an intense character study, with a harsh commentary. This selection gives readers the beginning two books in this dark and sensual series. Each is easily read as a stand-alone novel. In Book 1, we meet Maud and Henry. Both feel trapped by society’s strict and unforgiving expectations and do whatever it takes to live a life that makes them happy and feeds their dreams and desires. Luckily they find each other and without having to sacrifice any of their deepest dreams, find their HEA together.
readers follow Henry and Maud on a trip throughout Europe on their way to South America with Henry’s young cousin Cecile accompanying them. In Italy, Cecile meets and befriends the mysterious half-siblings Lucrezia and her brother, the dark and dangerous Count. Horrifying events including the loss of Lucrezia’s home lead to Maud inviting Lucrezia to accompany Cecile on the remainder of their voyage to South America. This action caused this reader to wish Maud would sense the danger surrounding Lucrezia – something this reader sensed all along!
These stories are dark, sensual, dangerous and very mysterious. The author gives readers excellent writing with captivating characters that keep readers invested in this unpredictable story. Recommend as part of this captivating series.

Emmanuelle de Maussapant has taken us to a place and time in the 1800s where women were seen as place holders and playthings while society thought men were above the daily inconvenience and entitled to whatever pleasures they could find. These characters will take you through a storyline that will find you in a gentleman’s club where woman sought to bring men pleasure while they found their own, the indignation and constraints of society towards women of this time. These are truly period time pieces that will keep you enthralled, not just with passion and sex, but with emotions of fear, trepidation, longing, and determination as the storyline progresses. Well worth the discovery of this 5 star read and gladly pass it along so more can enjoy it.
I’ve always had a fascination with the Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries, especially in the United Kingdom. Ms de Maupassant brings the Nineteenth century to life in this collection of two stories. Motion and emotions are kept in strict control: until they’re not. The prose transports you to where they are, what is really happening in that era. She keeps this voice throughout, nothing contemporary touches this novel, and I loved it.
It’s full of action, adventure, love, hate, vengeance, redemption and, of course, steamy steamy scenes. It tells you straight out that it’s erotica so no one under 18 or with delicate sensibilities, please.

Volume two continues their story while introducing us to Henry’s sister Cecile. While honeymooning throughout Europe, Maud and Henry continue their passionate pursuits and dark desires. However, Cecile is just beginning to awaken to her passionate nature. She encounters darkness, lust and danger in this continuation of Volume one. A must read!
