MISSION: SIX
more
SEALs, intrigue and romance! What more could you want!?! Elle James has again brought us a tale of the SEAL team of her Mission 6 series. This time the guys are going on a safari vacation to take a break from their assignment in Africa. They figure the worse that can happen is Percy “Pitbull” Taylor has to ride in a fixed-wing airplane. According to him, everyone knows the only safe aircraft ride is in a helicopter, preferably one flown by the 160th Night Stalkers. As far as Pitbull is concerned, the only upside to the ride is Marly Simpson, their bush pilot.
Pitbull doesn’t believe in relationships, but there’s just something about Marly that pushes all his buttons. He’ll just have to make sure he keeps his head on straight and his heart out of the game. After all, what could go wrong? This is just a vacation.
All Marly’s ever known is being a bush pilot and living in Africa. She’s never had a real relationship and isn’t looking for one now. She’s strong and willing to stand up and fight for what she believes in. She’s the best at what she does, even if the sexy SEAL is afraid to fly with her. You have to read this most entertaining story to join Pitbull and Marly on their journey. It is quite an unexpected ride!
Elle James has written an intriguing tale full of action and romance. This is a very enjoyable read with an easy flow and solid characterizations. Be prepared to read it somewhere you won’t be disturbed. You will find it hard to put down. I highly recommend this story!
I am voluntarily providing an honest, unbiased review of an ARC of this book.
I received a free advanced copy of this book from the publisher and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
The covers of most books today, having nothing to do with the story (don’t judge a book by it’s cover), but that is not the case here. They do almost crash into a herd of zebra. The model looks just as bush pilot Marly Simpson is described. As for SEAL “Pitbull” Percy Taylor, it is hard to tell as the only description of him is that he was built like a “brick house”. In fact, none of the SEALs have specific physical descriptions. Perhaps they were all well described in the first book, but I did not read that one. I also like that there is a Cast of Characters page, often found in SciFi and long series. This was very helpful in keeping straight who was who.
Marly Simpson was raised in Africa, where her father was a bush pilot and her mother a missionary teacher. She is asked to ferry a group of SEALs to a Safari Resort for a well deserved vacation. Pitbull, is very wary of flying in a small “fixed wing” airplane instead of a helicopter. And despite assurances, the plane does go down, due to a faulty fuel pump, which had recently passed inspection. This delays Marly’s return to her home and she and Pitbull are drawn to each other, knowing that nothing can come of their attraction, as he is a SEAL and his team is not normally even in Africa. But the vacation turns out not so relaxing, with poachers, terrorists and human traffickers.
Marly gets hijacked, Pitbull realizes he can love a woman and his SEALS have her back.
The book is an action packed page turner, however, except for Marly and Pitbull, there is not much character development. Also, the author seems to have ignored, perhaps for dramatic effect, that elephant herds are matriarchal and a bull would not have been part of the herd.
Two Dauntless Hearts:
Review:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue steamy romantic military based suspense novel Two Dauntless Hearts: Mission 6 series book 2: Pitbull and Marly by Elle James and this review was given freely.
An alpha SEAL with a vulnerable side. A little Murphy’s Law, fate and a few surprises turn what was suppose to be a leisurely one week Kenyan, African safari on Talia Montclair’s All Things Wild Safari & Resort into unexpected and violent encounters for the six SEAL Boat Team 22 members with a human trafficking and poaching ring. After two short mission flights, sharpshooter Percy “Pitbull” Taylor finds himself again on Marly Simpson’s bush plane fighting his fear of heights and fixed-wing aircrafts while also fighting his growing attraction to former Virginian Marly.
18+ Contains vivid violence. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.
This is an action packed, amusing, romantic and thrilling story. Pitbull is strong, stubborn, amusing and realistic. Marly is tough, funny, brave and smart. Pitbull is intensity attracted to Marly, but knows there’s no chance for a relationship for them because they live on 2 different continents, and he’s a SEAL. The two of them decide that they can have a no strings affair for the few days they have together, then say goodbye. Then the action really starts, with poachers the team decides need to be taken down. Of course nothing goes exactly as planned and more trouble comes looking for them. It’s a great story that I couldn’t put down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Loved it!
4 1/2 STARS!
Gripping excitement throughout! With the second book in her Mission: Six series, Elle James brings us Pitbull’s story. We met his Navy SEAL team in book one, and are following them through several bouts of drama while in Africa. We caught a glimpse of the heroine Marly in the first book as well, so seeing her meet her match with one of the SEAL’s was a fun development. An exciting plot with interesting characters led to a great read!
Percy “Pitbull” Taylor can’t believe he’s getting the opportunity to go on an African safari, but while he and the guys have a week of leave coming to them, that’s just what they’ve decided to do! The thing he’s not overly excited about is their method of transportation to get there … the pilot however, well, she’s hot!
Bush pilot Marly Simpson is only too happy to cross paths with this sexy group of men again. She’s particularly interested in the one who seems to be moody about entering her plane. She’ll take him for the ride of his life for sure … only she never expected it to end in an emergency landing! While stranded together, sparks fly and passion ignites … but they live on different continents, how could this ever work?
I haven’t read a book by this author in a long time. After reading Two Dauntless Hearts, I am asking myself “Why”? This was an amazing story about a SEAL team who remains in Africa after a harrowing mission after being ordered to take a few days to unwind by going on a safari in Kenya. They are flown there in a fixed wing airplane piloted by a woman named Marly Simpson who has lived in Africa for most of her life. She gets to know the SEALs while staying at the resort, particularly one named Pitbull. Together they form a romantic connection without strings. As the plot unfolds, danger and suspense come knocking on their door. Through a series of events, Pitbull and Marly’s relationship hits a critical point and a decision to go forward or end things must be made. This was a great story and I recommend you pick it up and indulge yourself by reading it. It is a military romance with a strong helping of danger and suspense!
Two Dauntless Hearts by Elle James is an amazing romantic suspense. Ms. James has provided us with a well-written book filled with phenomenal characters. This is a fairly short read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. Marly is a pilot and flies her own charter plane in Africa. Percy, aka Pitbull, is a US Navy SEAL on vacation with his team. Their story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. This book hooked me at page one and didn’t turn me loose until the end. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to my next book by Elle James. Two Dauntless Hearts is book 2 in the Mission: Six Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Never say never. Pitbull doesn’t ever plan to find a woman that could potentially hurt him in any way. Until he meets Marly and she turns his world upside down. She doesn’t even look like his regular type, but she’s different than most women he knows.
A SEAL on vacation? Yeah, right. Pitbull and his team have to go save Marly and stop the bad guys from winning.
A good read with action and romance. Likable characters all around.
