I fell in love with my best friend but he didn’t love me back.Sounds like a cheesy line from a country song, right? Too bad it’s the story of my life.I thought that I’d moved on, swore he was the one.But that facade began to fade in the flash of a half-carat diamond ring. Now years later, here I am, running back to the boy who broke my adolescent heart, hoping that just maybe, he’ll be the one to … he’ll be the one to piece it back together.
….
I fell in love with my best friend while she fell in love with him.
Ironically, it was my own damn fault. I practically served her up on a silver platter.
So I turned to my second love, basketball, moving across the country to escape.
For years, I’ve been sitting on the sidelines watching, waiting.
Now it’s time to make my move.
No more fouling out.
This time, I’m going to score.

One of my top reads for 2018! Must. Read
Does licking another mans nipple make you gay? Asking for a friend.
Oh My Gosh! This book was side splitting hilarious! I could not put it down. Read the whole thing in a matter of hours. Heather is known for her funny books, but Breakaway takes the cake. I have never laughed so much or so hard while reading. I loved Alexis and Colton. Definitely recommend this sweet, hilarious friends to lovers romantic comedy. Heather is doing me in with her books. I can’t get enough.
This angsty friends-to-lovers is sure to set your kindle on fire and to send your heart racing. Five stars all the way.
I have to preface this review by saying there are some ridiculously amazing one liners that kill me so much that I can’t use them here. I want you to enjoy the delivery as much as I did. So just know I’m still laughing, snorting, and shaking my head while I type this.
Breakaway is the ultimate best friends/boy next door fantasy romance. It is the same angsty dream I had. Yes, I was the dorky teen that wanted my childhood bestie to fall for me and sweep me off my feet. Two problems though, one I didn’t have a dude childhood bestie and two that isn’t what happens here.
I could feed you a lot of hearts and flowers and tell you how sweet this book is but you are better off reading it. Because with friends like these you will be hooked.
And then you will be able to tell be whose are better…lol. Gonna die laughing over that for a long time!
reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
** spoiler alert ** Friends to lovers stories are hit and miss for me. Most of the time I’m yelling at the characters to JUST TELL THEM how they feel and not the whole back and forth “this will ruin things” routine.
I’ll admit this book had a bunch of that. A bunch of wanting to smack both of them, but mainly Colton. That boy……. ugh if I could have reached into a book and shake, smack, punch, it would be this one and he would receive all of that. Not that Alex was a saint, but I got where her head was from age 13 and Marci. Then again at age 15.
The time jumps were perfect. A great way to see their friendship bloom and fade.
IMO, he went a bit too far during her visit to California while she was on her date with Stephan. I get the reasons behind his actions, but IMO it went to far. If I were Alex I would have hopped on the first plane home no questions asked. In my mind he didn’t do enough to win her back. I felt she rolled over to easily, but I’m a fighter and when push comes to shove I’m throwing punches no matter the circumstances.
I cried tears at her poem on the mountain. TEARS!
They get their HEA and he does do some pretty swoon worthy things.
~~I volunteered to read an advance copy
Breakaway was a beautiful story after Alexis and Colt finally figured their lives out. I spent quite a bit of time wanting to smack some sense into them, but I also understood their desire to not cross the line. To not do something they would regret.
There is a lot of back and forth in this book but it’s the best part of a best friends to lovers book. I want the drama, the angst, the will they/won’t they…. And then they come together and it’s fireworks. Obviously things happened which I won’t dive into that made them question each other and their love. Even their friendship at times.
But… I’ve also never swooned so hard at the end. Don’t even get me started on the bonus scene five years later. I may have shed a tear for them because I fell in love with this couple as I read their story.
I’m so happy I found Heather and her books, I swear whenever I need a really good make it hurt then make it all better Kinda love I grab one of her stories and am instantly transported into someone else’s life. I started with Mourning Wood (also highly recommend) and then moved on to Pour Judgment (if you haven’t read it, please do) and now I plan to start on Boomerangers next!
I’m so pumped for AUL to come out. I. Am. Here. For. It.
A childhood friends to lovers romance
My first solo book by this author and I read it with ease and would definitely read more.
The characters were frustrating but I enjoyed the journey, the will they won’t they get it on scenario, the hiding of their feelings until the perfect time, the push and the pull, the bad decisions, it was all good.
Colton and Alex had basically been friends since they left their mothers wombs. Their parents were friends and they spent every moment together. Their parents had high hopes of them getting together one day but despite how they started to feel for one another when they hit their teenage years neither made a move to be more so their friendship would stay intact.
Colton eventually moved away for college, Alex had a boyfriend but both felt like a piece of them was missing.
A predictable read, the characters were frustrating but it was all part of their story and I found it enjoyable, so much so I read it from start to finish in one sitting and immediately looked at what else I could read from this author.
Told in first person dual pov and leads to a hea Available in KU.
I went in blind , with no clue about the story or trope or genre. I’m not a YA /NA fan. So my review might not be too helpful for people who love this genre.
My first book by Heather and I was intrigued.
Colton Fowler & Alexis Mack are childhood friends, living next door, growing up together, their parents best friends. It was inevitable , that they’d end up marrying each other. They shared so many first things.
First attraction, first adoration and first kiss
She opened her mouth, and I shared the wettest, sloppiest, most uncoordinated first kiss there probably ever was with my best friend.
They’re both juvenile cause they’re so young, their timing never right and absolutely no communication drives the wedge deeper in their uncoordinated relationship . Misunderstandings, mistiming and misalignment is there throughout the story, which frustrated me no end
It was a good book, just not my taste
As Finn said Shit, or get off the pot !!
They both just sat there stewing in their own wandering thoughts
4 Frustrating Stars
It really sucks that I did not like this book at all. Two very immature childhood friends who are in love, but act like dumbasses to the point that I didn’t even care if they got together or not. It was so annoying that I had to skim through most of it to finish in hopes that these two would nut up and be adults. Sadly, they didn’t.
Alex is pitiful. She is in love with her best friend Colton. Wait. Her “only” friend. Oh wait there’s the old lady she met on the flight to LA. She is obsessed with him and its not even endearing or cute. Her life revolved around him. Their life consists of dating other people to get a rise out of the other and make them jealous in order to see if the other feels the same way as they do. But Alex “moves on” and I say this loosely with Dean who she dates for a few years, but when Dean proposes, she can’t give him an answer and decides to spend her summer with the best friend she’s in love with. While hanging with Colton, Alex dresses all slutty, goes on a date with one of Colton’s friends, and gets upset at all the girls that Colton has been with and is presently messing around with. Oh and did I mention her casual boob job. Yes, it is clear she got a boob job at 20 years old because Colton loves titties. And damn. All this girl wanted to do was have sex and talk about how horny looking at and touching Colton made her. She was always trying to get in his pants.
Colton is a dumbass in all his men-are-dumb-assholes glory. I did not like him. He thought it was ok to date girls and flaunt them around Alex, but got angry when she did the same. He had a girl giving him a blowjob while Alex was staying with him and she walks in on them. I will give him credit that he did everything to make things work when he decided to get his head out his ass.
So basically this book is about two people who don’t know how to sit down and talk about their feelings and problems. They made assumptions and caused each other unnecessary pain. They are both severely immature. They played games and the jealousy was ridiculous. I didn’t like either of these characters at all. I really wanted to like this book. I mean look at that amazing cover. The writing was ok, but I’m willing to read another book by this author. This book just wasn’t for me at all.
