KC Enders’ debut novel introduces us to Lis, a student and bartender, who is on her own trying to deal with life. And we also meet Aidan, a sexy Irish bartender who is also a photographer and dealing with his own issues in life.
It’s a sweet love story that definitely has bumps in the road, which makes it more like real life.
I can say I’m SO glad to see it marked as “Beekman Hills #1” because that tells me there is more to come, and it definitely left me wanting more.
I absolutely loved this book! I was pulled in from the very beginning when Lisbeth and her roommate, Gracyn, go to McBride’s Public House on St. Patrick’s Day, and Lisbeth tells Aidan, “Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.” There’s something about the characters and setting that just spoke to me and pulled me right in with welcoming arms. I was the nursing student that had to work my way through school, like Lisbeth, but let me tell you, there was no Aidan around to help me study. Whew, I’m not sure how much studying I’d have managed to get done if he was! I cannot wait for the next installment from Beekman Hills to hit the shelves!
A wonderful love story! The author did great with keeping with the characters and including the different nuances in the languages to keep you in character. Easy read and can’t wait to read more!
I loved this book! I wish there was a sequel to it that continued with Aidan and lisbeth . The characters are great and I love their individual stories.
I just finished this book last night and I can say I love it! This story caught my attention from the first page and I couldn’t put it down!
Great read!
Loved reading this book. It was interesting, funny, enjoyable reading. Could not book put the book down and wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next.
Enjoyed the book. An easy read and I liked the fact that it was a stand alone. The characters are strong.
What a great love story. Aden was so sweet, loving and kind to Lis . I admired Lis with her goals for school and her life after school. Once Aden got Lis to agree to one date , the fireworks started for them both. I can’t with to see what is next for the authors.
Creative story, well-drawn characters, and terrific chemistry made this a wonderful read. Love the inclusion of chosen family vs blood family. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Love is thicker than anything
I had no expectations coming into reading KC Enders’ debut bowl Troubles- well except for knowing that there was a hot Irishman Aidan Kearney ready to sweep me (sorry Lis) off my feet And I was so pleasantly surprised by this sweet tale of finding love when you least expect it and learning that family is more than those you are related to.
I really connected to heroine Lis – the woman who has a plan, has her goals and doesn’t want to rely on anyone but herself. Asking for help is not something that comes easily to Lis and she is super self-reliant, so watching Aidan recognise that and find ways to help Lis that she couldn’t say no to was very heart warming. And Aidan was a swoon-worthy hero who I fell in love with from the very first chapter. A kind, considerate, romantic man – I couldn’t help but get swept away by his charm and that Irish accent
What I especially liked about Troubles was that is was a quick easy read and despite reservations from both Aidan and Lis, it thankfully wasn’t a slow burn romance (which I do like but this story benefited from not being so slow). At the same time, it wasn’t insta-love either – Troubles is just the ideal romance: watching two people who weren’t looking for love find it and realise they can’t fight it.
It’s not all smooth sailing either and Karin creates a cast of characters who you will love to hate. And the frustration you’ll feel when things go pear-shaped is all due to Karin’s fabulous writing and her ability to draw you into the story and what the characters are feeling.
And I have to mention Lis’ best friend Gracyn whose book I can’t wait for. She’s a secondary character you’ll be desperate to know more about and I’m looking forward to G finding her chance at happiness.
Troubles is an outstanding debut novel and Karin’s writing style and story is one that deserves praise and recognition. I’ve read a number of debut novels in the last year and Karin’s is up there with one of the best I’ve read – so I hope she continues writing such wonderful romance novels for us to enjoy.
