Shawn McClellan was part of a fierce, tight group-a platoon of fewer than twenty United States Marines. A machine gunner deep in the Vietnam bush, Shawn fought and won battles with no names, and watched brave friends give the ultimate sacrifice. Death chased him. Rain, leeches, and malaria sapped his strength. And back home in an ungrateful country, right and wrong were decided by what was … easiest. Prayer was his last refuge, but it was hardest of all.

Great read
I just (fortunately) missed the war in Vietnam. This book is a visceral account of what really went on in the bush and the tragic welcome home these brave boys got. I say boys, because so many were 18-19 yrs old. I found it fascinating up until I hit around 69% of the book read & it caused my tablet to freeze. I tried various tricks & tips that worked before when a book would hang, I even got on the phone & called Kindle support – no joy. I was finally able to finish the book on my Samsung S7 edge, by jumping to a later section (missing some text), shutting down & repeating this cumbersome leap frogging method to finish the book. Where it not for this VERY annoying feature, I would have easily given this book the 5 stars it deserves.
Very accurate account of a tour of duty in country during the war in Vietnam. Enough character to make it interesting without being a dry historical read.
great I was in Korea 1951 and can relate
A great insight into the life of a marine in Vietnam
