A fantastic read by Dustin Stevens. It took a little while for me to get into this book as it jumps through different characters views and with my tired eyes and brain it couldn’t keep up but I am glad I persevered as it was a good political mystery thriller to read
Not exactly the nail biting suspense thriller I was expecting, definitely more of a political mystery, but a good read. Interesting story line that keeps the reader guessing what exactly happened and who is behind it.
This is the first book I have read from Dustin Stevens and will be reading more. The first few chapters took a little for me to get into, but after that I didn’t want to put the book down. I usually do not read books with politics and government, but love mysteries and thrillers. I imagine that although the book was fiction, a similar scenario could happen in real life. The real-life possibility and fast pace of the story is what I liked most about it!
It’s refreshing to read a story that happens in the politicians world without having to be influenced by personal feelings about one party or another. The story has nothing to do with it but with the reality that can happen to any of us. You don’t have to be in high places to face that kind of situation. Obviously, it’s a whole different level of the strings to be pulled, but that doesn’t make the story less real.
What I like a lot about this author is how descriptive is everything without distracting from the subject. I like when you can easily visualize what happens and how it makes you feel part of the story as if you witness it with your own eyes.
I started reading this book with the thought that I didn’t know if i would like it. Let me tell you, I loved it! It started off with a great story line and continued on with a gripping story that had a hold of me from start to finish. The author has written a story that was so true to life that it had me wondering how many times this could happen in “real life”. The characters are so true to life and they keep you rooting for the “good guys” and hoping that the “bad guys” end up getting caught. With an action packed story, and an explosive ending this book will keep you reading till the very end. You will love it and I have found another author that I will look for future books to read!
Stevens did well maintaining the flow of the story all while keeping the reader intrigued and full of suspense. Although this isn’t my usual genre, I enjoyed this book and would consider continuing to read Stevens for the action and suspense he brings to his books.
ackson Ridge has one last day as a US Senator. Clara Tarby’s son was killed in Afghanistan. She asked the Senator if his death was worth it. Ridge looks into Josh Tarby’s records, only to find most of it is blanked out.The file has been doctored. He stumbles into a situation that some people want to stay hidden. Ms Tarby is attacked and sent to the hospital. The Senator and some of his staff are kidnapped. There is a thrilling conclusion to this political thriller.
“One Last Day” by Dustin Stevens is a very topical story about the last 24 hours of an aging senator’s tenure. The 24 hour deadline gives the plot a sense of urgency. The reader finds himself rushing to finish chapters as the senator and his loyal staff try to uncover the redacted details surrounding a soldier/constituent’s death. Recent events in Washington D.C. lend reality to the storyline. If you follow the daily drama that we call politics, you will love “One Last Day”.
In just 25 hours, Wyoming Senator Jackson Ridge will be leaving Washington, D.C., after spending 36 years in the town. Today he is having a meeting with some of his constituents. A Ms. Clara Tarby asks the senator about her son who was killed in Afghanistan: “Can you tell me if his death neat anything at all?”
As his last day unfolds, Ridge decides to investigate his mysterious death. Along the way he cashes in favors he had gained over the years; he and his staff meet good guys; and bad guys, who are desperate to keep Tarby’s death a secret. The question is will he find the answer before he leaves office?
The book is enticing and hard to put down. In other words, Stevens continues to publish thrilling and excellent books.
New to me author and I mainly listened to it on audible and it was a fantastic fast paced read for me. I know your not supposed to judge a book by its cover or even the blurb but I was taken aback from this story. It’s not too focused on politics like I thought it would be and I really enjoyed this book. The author does such a fantastic job of describing locations vividly that I feel like I’m looking at a picture or standing there. Page turner till the last pages.
The narrator was fantastic as well. Riveting and enthralling!
