The stakes are raised and the passion burns hotter in one of the most anticipated Dark Kings novel from New York Times bestseller Donna Grant. The King of Silvers. Cunning, perceptive, resourceful. Determined. Banished from Dreagan eons ago because of a betrayal that shattered his entire existence, his sole focus in life is to exact revenge against the Dragon Kings. A formidable fighter with … Kings. A formidable fighter with centuries of rage on his side, Ulrik will stop at nothing to take down those who exiled him.
He has been alone, trusting no one for thousands of years. Until she walks into his life. He should not yearn for her, but there is no stopping the fiercely burning attraction. When he’s with her, he isn’t thinking of war or revenge. He only thinks of her, craves her. Burns for her. But soon he will be forced to choose: Will he continue on his course of destruction or will he be able to set aside his vengeance to save the woman who risked everything for him.

I am a little behind still on this series so some backtracking now brought me this thrilling story.
Ulrick has been banned from Dreagan. Con has taken not only his home away but his magic. However, Ulrick is strong and despite it all, he forges ahead.
Now he finds himself loving a mortal, and in the mix, he must keep what is rightfully his from his evil uncle.
It will take Elish to show this powerful dragon just what kind of man he truly is. Can she also build the bridge with his brethren that has been broken? All while staying alive herself.
Powerful, action-packed, explosive story…
Finally! The feud between Mikkel, Ulrik and the Kings comes to a head. After being banished thousand of years ago, Ulrik is almost ready to challenge Con. When Eilish is sent to kill him though, he finds himself wanting to keep her from working with his uncle anymore. This book was a rollercoaster but I loved every moment of it.
This had to be a top-notch story. After all Urik, King of Silvers has not been exactly, shall we say, hero material in the books so far. Blood-thirsty human killer, foe of his fellow dragon kings, the ist goes on and on. But leave it to one feisty female to not only bring him to his knees, but also change his mind about humans and the DK’s!
Tragedy, betrayal, deceit, magic, mayhem, and love (be it between DK’s themselves or with others) all mix together into a smorgasbord of amazeballs writing!
This so far is my FAVORITE Dragon King book! I loved Ulrik’s story!! Donna you outdid yourself on this one!
It was so great to see Ulrik reunited with his fellow Dragon Kings. So happy that he found his true mate.
This is the book I have been reading towards and it was worth the wait. This book is Ulrik’s. Conspiracies are exposed. Love is found. Hard lessons are learned. Evil is banished just in time for a new memory to appear. Life is always interesting with the Dark Kings.
This is the book we have all been waiting for and it did not disappoint!
Ulrik has been waiting for revenge for thousands of years but now he has a new target, Mikkel his uncle. Eilish has been told by Mikkel to kill Ulrik. She doesn’t want to though because she knows she can’t and that Ulrik is the true king of the silvers. She can’t stop thinking about Ulrick, nor he her. Slowly with each interaction they grow closer and start to trust again.
Ulrik and Eilish’s relationship was beautiful. I loved every minute of it. Eilish was perfect for Ulrik. She saw through his protective shell and brought out the old Ulrik. She taught him to trust again. They gave each other their missing families and made them whole again. Their relationship was filled with love, fear, danger and also peace.
“When they were together, they were the only two people in the entire world. The past hurts and grievances and present pain and anger couldn’t touch them.”
A lot of new developments in the story happened as well. Mikkel’s crimes are finally brought to light and revenge is had. Ussaeil has finally snapped and gone after both Con and Rhi. New updates on the mysterious weapon. I couldn’t put this book down. I love that this book was just as good the second time around.
I have read the entire series of the Dragon Kings, and this was my favorite. Ulrick has been talked about in everyone, now we meet him, and he does not disappoint. Great book! Great series!
Torched by Donn Grant is the newest in the Dark Kings series. Torched centers on the Dragon King of the Silvers, Ulrik, who was stripped of his powers and banished from the rest of his Dragon King brethren long ago. Reading Torched as a stand-alone is possible, but with the background interactions involving Ulrik throughout the series, I would not recommend it. Ulrik has been evolving throughout the past several books, leading him to a place in Torched where he can take on his enemies, and possibly find a purpose beyond his need for vengeance.
I have long awaited Ulrik’s story. I enjoy a protagonist that struggles with their darkness within and needs a good redemption. Ulrik is one of these characters. Ulrik has been seeking revenge against the Dragon King of Kings Con, even though Con had his reasons for causing Ulrik’s centuries of solitude without his magical essence. In Torched Ulrik allows himself to act on his feelings for the Druid Eilish who is responsible for unlocking his magic. In allowing himself to feel something other than hatred Ulrik finds some peace and reassesses what he wants from his future. The series has shown the bond between Con and Ulrik remained and Ulrik finally admits to himself that it sucks to stay murderously angry with your best friend.
My final assessment is this installment of the Dark Kings series is well worth reading. I read about the Dragon Kings for its urban fantasy elements and the massive subplots that have been developing as far back as the Dark Sword series with the Dangerous Highlander. I love interconnecting plot lines, and the overall narrative is continuing to advance toward its apex. I am eager for its conclusion. The characters in the Dark World are a family with deep emotional ties. They care for and keep each other safe. It is satisfying to see one of their central exiled characters has found a way to become part of that family again. The paranormal romance aspect is just as good as it always is. Admittedly Ulrik is my type of alpha male, so I had no problems engaging in the passion between Ulrik and Eilish. There were a few moments I felt the lack of an emotional bond between them but came to the decision that could have to do with Ulrik’s state of mind. All opinions are mine and may not be identical to others. I urge all readers to come to their own conclusions.
I wasn’t sure Ulrik could be redeemed after everything that happened, but…yowza! I’m so glad he got what he deserved!
Torched (Dark Kings, #13) by Donna Grant …Why can I only give this this book 5 stars? It needs a least ten. Okay I thought we’d never get to Ulrik’s story..you know King of the Silvers..Banished and powers taken away eons ago…Well it was worth the wait…He is my new hero… and Eilish the Druid who is looking for her mother and just finding her powers is perfect for him. I did’t want to finish the book .. I love that Donna makes me feel like I’m right there part of the story….The books has the whole range of feelings…answers some questions but leaves you with some more getting to Ulrik and Eilish’s HEA…. now I can’t wait for DRAGON FIRE….
TORCHED is the thirteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. TORCHED should not be read as a stand alone as this is Ulrik, King of the Silvers’ story line, a story line that has been developing since the first instalment.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Ulrik the Silver Dragon King and his uncle Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides-but Ulrik wants revenge against King Constantine of the Dragon Kings; Mikkel wants to become King of the Silvers, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world.
Told from several third person perspectives that follow several intersecting paths TORCHED focuses on the King of the Silvers Ulrik as he struggles with his waning need for revenge against the King of Kings versus his duty to protect the dragons he still considers brothers and friends. Thousands of years earlier, Ulrik pledged vengeance against King Constantine for the death of the human woman he once loved- a woman whose betrayal would have meant the death of them all. In the ensuing war between dragon and man, Ulrik killed thousands of humans before Con banished his brother locking his magic and ability to shift. Fast forward to present time wherein Ulrik has worked diligently to reclaim what is rightfully his only to be hindered at every turn by a familiar dragon. With his Uncle Mikkel, working together with a powerful Druid, Ulrik soon turns his vengeance against one of his own. Meanwhile a beautiful woman of immense power, struggles between good and evil, as she searches for the mother she never knew. With Ulrik’s guidance, she will come into her own, as she steps into a war between heirs to the Silver throne.
The turn of events in the impending war between the dragons and the Fae begins to unravel as Con and Queen Usaeil no longer see eye to eye; and Rhi is no longer welcome back to the place she has always called home.
TORCHED is a heartbreaking, detailed and revealing story line where lines are drawn, friendships forged, redemption and forgiveness offered and accepted. One-time friends will become enemies, as long-time relationships crash and burn. The author brings together Death and her Reapers, along with the return of the Druids and Warriors, for some much needed back up, if only to connect all of the back stories, magic and series into one. Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS is a spirited, thrilling and exhilarating series. TORCHED is a dramatic tale of restitution, reclamation, absolution and love.
