“Beneath the Lighthouse grabs you by the nether regions from the word go. Then it squeezes. Hard. With a nailed glove … A truly scary ghost story … a powerful ‘coming of age’ drama … a young man growing into adulthood against a backdrop of despair and quite shocking abuse … unpredictable and ever building. Blood and bone revenge, retribution and salvation. The strength of friendship, the power of … the power of love. You feel the dread and the underlying fear … not your typical tale. And what a tale it is.” —EM Faustus

Still getting goose bumps after reading this dark suspense-filled story. Julieanne Lynch weaved an incredibly intricate story of love, betrayal, and abuse with a twist of the paranormal and horror. This read gave me chills as Jamie’s story/mystery unfolded. However, don’t let the Irish lingo deter you from reading this. It took me a bit while to get used to it. It did lend to some difficult reading, but it was worth it.
Beneath the Lighthouse is no ordinary ghost story. Not only is this a tale of ghosts of the dead, this also tells the tale of ghosts of the living. It is a lot for a sixteen-year-old boy to deal with. The character development flowed from beginning to end. The descriptive world building gave me the feel of their lives in a small town in Ireland.
This is a ghost story that was filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing. The story itself created a haunting and eerie feeling as the mystery unraveled and Jamie continued to get closer to the truth.
I don’t know… Beneath the Lighthouse is a haunting and emotionally charged story with many layers of secrets that grips readers at the heart. Yeah… This is not your ordinary ghost story… A definite must read if you like ghost stories.
Loved the book
I enjoyed this book. I couldn’t predict what would happen. I hope to read other books by this author.
This is the first book by Julieanne Lynch I have read. I felt the characters were well developed and I connected with the MC, Jamie, on an emotional level. For me the story fell flat in that the author didn’t paint me a picture of the small town in Ireland or its inhabitants. I felt Lynch could have been more descriptive in those areas. Despite that Beneath the Lighthouse was a hauntingly disturbing emotionally charged ghost story that left the hairs on my neck on end and goose bumps crawling on my flesh. I could easily have read this book in one sitting but I started it late on a work night and was forced to put it down. There were several unexpected twists that left me with my mouth agape. If you enjoy a spine-tingling, edge of your seat , scary ghost story, check out Beneath the Lighthouse.
This was an interesting read. If you like “twisty” books then you will enjoy this story. Jamie hasn’t lived the best life since his sister passed. With the help of a spirit intent on sharingher story, Jamie is shown some truths that will change him and his life forever. Although the plot was good, it was a bit hard to read due to not knowing Irist slang and the authors intermittent use of the parent’s proper names versus Ma and Da was a distraction for me.
I wasn’t sure how this book was going to go. But once I read the Prologue, I knew I was in for an amazing ride and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. This storyline was awesome! The true life horrors in some households, friends for life, abuse, paranormal, first love, betrayal and a new lease on life.
Teens starting summer vacation, one a life time friend, one who didn’t show her true colors, one a first love and one with a true heart tries to help a dead girl.
Life at home is brutal, but his friends are his escape. Finding out that this girl likes him and takes him for who he is, they become friends, which leads to first kiss. Hanging at the lighthouse, waves splashing on the rocks, he takes solitude in it, until one day a girl appears before him, a ghost. She needs his help to be let free of her ghostly grave. She was beaten to death, just because she witnessed another girl being beaten to death by the same man.
As you go through the story, page after page, a mystery starts. Each page brings things to this mystery, until one day the Ghost girl reveals the truth. Unbelievable, I would of never in a million years had guessed. From there things fall into light and you won’t believe what happens.
This book was awesome! It held my attention so much, that when someone spoke to me or wanted me, I would growl under my breath that I had to stop reading. I highly recommend this book! I hope there is more to come, there was subtle clues for more to come
Just when I thought I had this book figured out, it provided another twist to the story. Quick read, kept me turning pages.
