The alarm at the fire station was a familiar sound to Travis Kendricks – after seven years as a firefighter, he knew the drill. Each call was different, but the process of responding was the same. He never imagined that tonight would be the one that changed his life.Charliee Brooksman simply wanted a quick dinner and a night of rest, after an exhausting day teaching at a school for the deaf. But … deaf. But Fate wasn’t about to let her catch her breath. This would be the night that took her breath away…

I absolutely loved this book. Although there was a thread of suspense & tension running through it (a bit more on that later), the overwhelming majority of this book was simply the heartwarming path of two people falling in love. Just doing day to day things, with each other & occasionally family members. Sound boring? Well, I didn’t think so & I am used to heavy, DARK & chaotic romances.
What was so wonderful & engaging about this book that I read straight through it without pause? A cast of characters that were NICE, ORDINARY, HARD WORKING people: not billionaires, not CEO’s, not bad or mean or dishonest. To me, this story was a very welcome breath of fresh air, people who genuinely care for each other, who take pride in their careers & contributing to society in their individual ways. People who loved their parents, their siblings, who made their way through life~~ the good, the bad & the awful, just the way millions of people do, one day at a time & together.
A horrible incident brings Charliee (h), a teacher & Travis (H), a fireman, into each others orbit & though both feel a spark never felt before circumstances cause them to loose touch briefly. But Charliee’s tenacity (w/the reluctant assistance of her policeman brother) locates Travis & they tentatively, at first, begin to form a relationship. The book chapters POV alternates between Charliee & Travis so the reader understands what thoughts are behind their decisions & feelings. But Travis & Charliee are nice loving people & what little angst there is in the story is thankfully brief, low key & reasonable.
The secondary characters are great too (& will figure in subsequent books of their own): Bryce & Derrick, Charliee’s protective twin brothers, both policeman on the same force; Jayden, Charliee’s best friend; Samantha, Travis’ sister, as well as both sets of parents.
But there is suspense & tension in the story as someone is terrorizing the city in a way that has already killed many & there is no doubt more deaths are planned.
I heartily recommend this beautiful romance for readers who want to experience a love story of ordinary people who daily do extraordinary things by being there for their loved ones, listening to them & loving them.

This is a sexy suspense read. The characters are well developed and authentic. There is a genuineness to the story, even the cover. The couple on the cover doesn’t have the slickness of professional models which I liked. (maybe they were professionals??) And the h was inspired by the author’s daughter who is legally deaf. I liked how deafness didn’t overtake the story line. Great read.
Wow all it took was the first chapter to suck me in….
I just love this instant protectiveness Travis feels for charliee,
The instant connection and trust between these two.. that he never treated
her different cause she us deaf..
Truly loved this book.. great read, it’s a page Turner and had me entrance through the Whole book..
A really good book and one that really needs more stars than are allowed. In a plot/subject that very few even think of using Tonya has captured the essence of love and trials. Of one couples journey to adjust and love despite the tests and difficulties that lay before them. I wish there were more authors out there willing to write books about deaf characters or that just choose silence over talking. I realize it’s not a genre, but can you imagine all the different plots and story lines that would cover this type of books. The author opens you up to the life of a deaf person and the trials they go through on a daily basis. Good work, keep the books coming.
Sometimes it’s good to have a story about ordinary people in ordinary life. That’s who they are. They have family and friends to support and love them. Mainly it’s the story about 2 people with a connection and how that develops into love. There’s some suspense and drama that helps the story along and yes the author includes plenty of details of what goes on behind closed doors. All around it’s a good read which the author handles the challenges they both face with ease and grace.
This sweet story was beautifully written and the characters were very likable and believable that Travis and Charliee kept me totally engaged until the very end!
Love this story line and Travis and Charlee are meant for each other. They each have issues and have to get over them to be together.
I really enjoyed this book. I’m pretty sure I’ve never read a book with a deaf main character before and I wasn’t sure how the author would make it work. I think they did well. I adored both main characters and the myster was exciting. Enjoy.
***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***

In this book we meet Charliee Brooksman and Travis. All Charliee wanted was dinner from her favorite restaurant, a glass of wine, and nice long bath. Little did she know how drastically her plans would change from that. Travis has become the station cook or at least that is what his fellow firefighters keep telling him. This night however isn’t the quite dinner they all had planned they are called out just as soon as they sit down to enjoy it. This night changes both their lives forever. Can they find a HEA or will the person who changed their lives forever make sure they never get that chance?
This is an amazing story. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don’t want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Book one in the Sign of Love series is a well-written story that held my attention from the first page. I want to read the next book in this series. Charlee and Travis come together because of a bomb. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
First off, I need to start by saying I read this book in a day, literally. It is just that good! I didn’t let my daily distractions get in the way of this one.
This book is about a deaf woman named Charliee, that is a teacher at a special school for the deaf. Which is probably the smallest part of the book but you meet Charliee’s best friend Jayden there. The biggest part of the story happens between the two main characters, Charliee and Travis. Travis is a hunky firefighter, a tattooed sweetheart and all around a great guy. Charliee is a strong, independent woman with a sense of humor to match Travis’. Their story starts so quickly, the pull between them is instantaneous. If you love romance and love scenes then this is the book for you. You will love their relationship and how it develops. It unique being that the main character is deaf, but it makes you love Travis and Charliee that much more.
I don’t want to give anything away, everyone should be able to experience this story without going in knowing what happens. But I recommend that you go and get this book, spend the time because it is worth the read.
