A recovering gambler Hard-living biker Clint Remmick is fiercely loyal to the boys of the Demon Horde motorcycle club. He’s worked hard to redeem himself, and there’s no risk he won’t take to help his brothers, even when rivals threaten their safety. When his grandmother’s health takes a turn for the worse, though, he moves out of the clubhouse to take care of her. With his duties for the MC, he … the MC, he knows he can’t do it alone, so he hires Jo, a live-in nurse.
He didn’t expect her to heal him, as well.
A dedicated nurse
Jo Smith enjoys working for sweet old Anne Remmick, and she’s especially intrigued by her tattooed bad-boy grandson. Clint’s tough exterior scares her a little, but she feels a pull toward the sexy biker. Soon she’s dying to close the distance between them.
A losing bet
When Clint and his brothers have to pull a dangerous job in Reno, Jo is the perfect cover. With enemies around every corner, Clint needs to focus on keeping her safe–not the lust simmering between them. But when Clint is trapped by a rival club, Jo will have to save him…and their relationship.

This story started out with opening my eyes to something I didn’t think we had to worry about any longer….racism. Yes I know that there are still some bigots but the way Jo held herself back because she wasn’t sure how someone would take to her being black or even part black really took me by surprise. It can be because I live in a large city, that is considered a melting pot of all ethnic backgrounds or it can be that I just want to see the good in people, but regardless the reason I really hope for a time that everyone is able to be judged on their actions and not the color of their skin, the god they pray to, or even their social class. Until that time I will continue to live my life with rose colored glasses and see the good in people.
Now back to my review:
Outlaw Ride is a great addition to the Demon Horde series, this story not only adds dimension to the MC but it also shows the softer side of the men, well on in particular…Clint.
Clint is trying to make amends for the trouble he caused during his gambling addiction not only with his Brothers but also with his nana whom he owes so much to. His plans with the MC are simple he wants to prove himself and what better way to do that then to start up a new legal business for the MC to profit from, of course there will be one tiny bit of illegal activity going on but that will bring in even more money to the MC so all is good. As far as making amends with his nana, he takes her in so that she can be closer to the hospital where she needs to have her dialysis treatments done, which means finding a place for them to live and hire an in home health care provider.
Jo has never felt wanted in the world she was part black and part white so she didn’t feel that she fit in with either group which I found extremely sad. But I have to say that I really appreciated the fact that when Jo had her hesitations about going somewhere with Clint that he took the time to address her fears and didn’t push them off as inconsequential.
The attraction between Clint and Jo was instant and there really was no denying that but since Clint was Jo’s boss she refused to get involved with him because of things went bad she would be out of a job and a home. So if you think they are going to fall into bed right away you are sooooo wrong, it took a lot for them to get to that point and even once they did there was some second guessing going on.
As you know there is always some angst in romance novels but the angst level here was really held to a minimum, the main focus was on Clint and Jo finding their way to one another and how to make it withstand all of the obstacles.
Outlaw Ride is the third book in the Demon Horde series but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend reading the series in order though because you will want to know all the previous couples stories so when they pop up in this book you have a better knowledge of their background.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book**
Outlaw Ride by Sarah Hawthorne is book Three in the Demon Horde series. This is the story of Clint Remmick and Jo Smith. I have read the previous book but feel this is easily a standalone book.
Clint is a loyal member of the Demon Horde MC but when his grandmother health goes bad he moves in with her along with hiring Jo to help take care of her. Jo and Clint have an immediate attraction to each other but when things start to heat up between them but so does things with the Demon Horde club.
Exciting read!
3.5 stars
Surprisingly sweet for an MC read , Outlaw Ride was one of those books that was easy to relax with. Even loaded with sweetness, it’s definitely still an MC with a hot biker & sassy heroine you can’t help but adore, but with the additional family elements that make this one different from many. I easily spent the afternoon curled up with this book and loving it!
Jo was a woman that I had no problem liking. Smart, kind, and strong she was a joy to read. Clint was equal in that department. He was definitely all alpha biker, but had a sweetness to him that was irresistible. Together they made a couple that I adored. Throw in Clint’s Nana who was equal parts adorable and hilarious and you’ve got a book that will hold you until the end.
Let’s start off my saying and this a brand new author to us and we have to say this read was not our cup of tea.
For me the story did not keep my interest as I had to put it down several times and pick it up again.I found it to be really boring and lacking any real romance or hotness.I did not dislike the characters nor did I love them but, if I had to pick one character I liked most that would be Jo as she was so loving and independent. Clint’s Grandma was another interesting character.I did like that fact that Clint as a single sexy biker loved his Grand-mother so much that he asked her to move in with him to take care of her as she needed to be near by for weekly medical treatments. He melted my heart right then and there.I will say that I thought that the story had some other interesting characters that added a bit humor to it.This story surrounds around a interracial couple and at the beginning of the story Jo was concerned that Clint a biker and loaded with a ton of tattoo’s might have ties else wear other than his club.
(like neo nazi type stuff)
I understood her fears as she would be living with Clint dangerous and sexy and he was kind enough to put her fears at rest that she was not going to get murdered in her sleep.I thought it was sweet and kind of him to put her fears to rest the way he did.
Story wise the plot was different from anything that I had read before.
When I sit down and read a book its suppose to be and escape and enjoyable from your daily life and grind and you should be able to leave behind your troubles and woes but, I was not able to do that with this story as it never put me at ease.
For me Jo’s initial reaction with Clint was justifiable to an extent but, if either Clint or Nana had a problem with her origin she would not have been hired in the first place. Then Jo worries about the clubhouse and their reaction of his brothers seeing and meeting her.Really? Clint would not have invited her to a place where she would have been slighted or made uncomfortable or disrespected in anyway he wanted her to have fun and enjoy herself . The author has you showing Jo’s reluctance in going in the first place because of her fears. The racial thing again. Really?
I am sorry but, I just can’t believe we are talking about the same Jo.She said it herself she lived a hard life and on the streets sleep in the back of a car and learned to survive from the school of hard knocks as she puts it.The Jo we got to know was a loving and kind and caring person no matter how hard her life was before hand also she was confident and determined in what she wanted out of life and went for it.She also had a backbone and stood up for herself and yet, had all these insecurities about what people will think of her do to her skin color. I just don’t buy it.I would have understand her fears at entering a motorcycle club for the first time and meeting the old ladies and his other brothers that I could have understood the fear of the unknown.I would have understood at the time if Clint and her were already in a relationship and she was worried at what people might think of them as a couple but, they were not. Here again Jo had already met three of the brothers prior to going to the clubhouse and they all got to know one another which they joked laughed and seemed at ease and already liked one another. So why was she so fearful of meeting the other brothers and what they would think of her. She was already at ease with the ones she already met and at this point your only Clint’s friend not his girlfriend. Why should the color of your skin matter?
Just none of this made any sense and that’s my problem with this story for me.If perhaps there were more insight into Jo’s past and growing up and the hardships she encountered perhaps with her mixed heritage and her insecurities of where she belonged I could understand her fears better and get behind them but, the women who stood in a room full of bikers and dressed down Clint all in doing so in front of his brothers was not the girl portrayed with all these fears and insecurities she seem to have. Not only that she was a knife throwing bad-ass.
This was not your typical MC romance for me it read more like a contemporary romance I just felt this story was to tame for the MC gene.Where was the heat between the couple, the sparks, the chemistry?I did not feel any of that between this couple.Make me feel it ! Believe it! I just was not feeling the love nor the chemistry between this couple.
I hate leaving reviews like this but, this was an arc so I am expressing my feelings on how I felt about the story.I could go on about so many other things that annoyed me about the story but, we are just going to chalk it up to that this story was just not for me.
Would I read this author again? I am really not sure but, after seeing what Skeeter is going to be up against in the next book in the series I might just have to try this author again.
