Aspen “Blade” Carlisle is the last of his Delta Force team to find love…and he’s pretty bummed about that fact. Which might explain why he finds himself chatting up a telemarketer as if she’s a long-lost friend. But Wendy is surprisingly easy to talk to, so when they go from occasional calls during her work, to nightly conversations on their cells, it somehow feels right. So right, Blade … eventually convinces the funny, sweet woman to meet him in person.
When their first face-to-face meeting gets high-jacked, Wendy Tucker is sure she and Aspen made a big mistake in taking their relationship to the next level. But the man is nothing if not persistent. Before long, Wendy’s allowing the handsome soldier to spend more time with her and Jack, the teen brother she’s raising, than anyone she’s ever dated. Though she knows there are limits to how close she can get to Aspen, no matter how much she likes him. Limits carefully constructed to protect Wendy and Jack from a past they’ve been running from for years.
But dating Blade means having an entire team of Deltas at her back. Which may come in handy not just with Wendy’s past…but also when her brother faces a current threat.

Love all her book
Loved it
What a great book! It is a steamy, emotional, & suspenseful story.
Blade & Wendy become acquainted, because of a random phone call.
There is something about Wendy,
that Blade wanted to know more about. After talking for a couple months, Blade wants to meet Wendy.
Blade is Delta Force.
He is strong, confident, & handsome.
Wendy is a pretty, & kind person, with
not a lot of confidence. She is raising
her brother, Jackson.
Wendy & Jackson, have a very big secret, that they must keep from the people, they care about. As Blade opens up more, & more to Wendy, she continues to avoid answering his questions.
How can they gave a true relationship,
without trust? The story pulled me in, wanting to know more.
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!
Love all of Susan’s books. Really liked the characters and their interaction. Loved the involvement of past characters
Susan Stoker is amazing! Even though it doesn’t say you have to – read them in order – they will make more sense as she introduces the next ‘girlfriend’ to the group. Love love love her writing!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!
love these books
Another win in the Delta Force Heroes series! Although this is every bit a Susan Stoker novel, Rescuing Wendy is different from the other books I’ve read so far, which is a good thing in keeping her audience entertained, yet still coming back for that same comfort feel. There are small follow ups on past Deltas, but if you haven’t read the other books you will be able to jump right into this one and pick up the plot with no problem. (Although, once you pick up one Stoker novel you will become addicted and want to catch up and everyone else.)
Wendy and Blade, or Aspen as Wendy prefers to call him by his given name, met when she cold called him asking if he would like to buy life insurance. Typically this is not the way you would meet the love of your life, but that is the genius of Stoker’s writing.
Wendy was working in a call center, a job she hated, but alas there she was making cold calls to people who hung up on her, were most times rude, made lewd comments, you name it she’s heard it, but on one night in particular she happened to call Blade and he did none of the above. He was kind and they found a connection. He asked if they could talk again. Needing a kind voice on nights when Wendy needed to hear it she broke company policy and would dial his number and ask if he wanted to buy whatever she happened to be selling that evening. A bond formed and months later they were still talking.
The last Delta among his buddies to be in a relationship, Blade sometimes felt alone. He could spend all day surrounded by his buddies but still feel lonely. That was until he began to talk to Wendy. He didn’t know why her voice soothed him or why talking about their days quenched the lonely thirst he’d been feeling, but he knew he had to have more. When he found out she lived not far from him he knew it was destiny and that he had to meet her in person. He wanted more from just their nightly chats. He wanted more from the one person who made him happy. He wanted Wendy.
Wendy hadn’t let anyone into her life for good reason. Raising her younger brother alone had taken top priority. Somehow, Blade made her forget and that’s dangerous. As much as she would love to have a life with the perfect man and forget about her past, somethings just aren’t possible. She has a reason to keep a part of herself locked away, which has nothing to do with Blade, but her secret creates distrust and without trust it’s hard to build a future.
Blade can tell Wendy is hiding something and she won’t open up enough to tell him what that is. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her, but she makes that near impossible when she isn’t honest with him. Can Blade rescue Wendy from herself before it’s too late?
Oh my freaking goodness!!! Wendy and Aspen (Blade) are just so wonderful. I adored Jackson and totally understood Wendy’s need to protect her younger brother. There were so many twists and turns, roadblocks and challenges. I loved that this plot was a little different, Wendy still needs to be rescued but in a totally different way. The angst and drama about tore my heart out. Waiting (somewhat impatiently) for Truck and Mary’s story. This was yet another fabulous book in the Delta Force Heroes series. Well done Susan Stoker!
P.S. If I didn’t have to have more words for one review my review, Oh my freaking goodness would have been it for my review!!!
Just finished the book which is the last in the series till Oct. Loved all the Delta Force Heroes by Susan Stoker. It’s suppose to be romantic suspense but it’s more like romance with a touch of suspense and a lot of friendship. Loved all the characters.
Loved it! Can not wait for the next book. Cool little angst twist near the end with the whole crew. You learn how that little twist in the last story effects everyone when it comes to light.

Our heroine Wendy has a different kind of problem than the other women in this series. Not to say it isn’t as formidable, just different. Working two jobs to support her and her brother, she gets to know Aspen aka Blade while cold calling as a telemarketer.
From the first time Blade speaks to her he knows she’s different somehow and they now speak often. He however is ready to take this relationship to the next level. He wants to meet in person, in public of course so she feels safe.
Wendy’s brother Jack is a trip, he’s smart, funny and has a protective streak. He paves the way for Blade after the major screw-up of a blind date with Wendy.
As is par for any relationship things don’t go completely smooth and there is plenty of drama over Wendy’s secret and some angst as well. Plenty of fun and laughter and maybe even a few tears.
More importantly though is the way bullying is handled in this book. Jackson’s girlfriend Jenny and her drama group are being targeted. Jenny in particular because Jackson and his friends stand up to the bullies.
Now you know darn good and well Blade and his team aren’t going to stand by and watch either.
We get to see all our favorite characters in this one, well except for Fish, although he does have a video call with Jack’s robotics club.
Annie is precocious as ever at the performance of ‘The Little Mermaid’ which has Jack’s girl Jenny as Ursula. The things that happen after that performance really amp up the plot.
Needless to say I loved this book. Susan takes on bullying with finesse and class. Plus Susan is a notable tease and at the end of Rescuing Casey she threw out a few bombshells that had many of us gasping. In this book one of the major ones comes to head and boils over. Of course this is just setting us up for Rescuing Mary, is it October yet?
Blade wants what the rest of his team has, love. He is shocked when he finds himself drawn to the woman who calls to sell him insurance. They develop a friendship over the following months and then decide to finally meet in person. That meeting did not go well but Blade didn’t give up.
Wendy is determined to take care of her brother and keep her secrets but she really likes Blade. She agrees to continue to see him to see where the relationship goes. When Wendy’s brother finds himself in trouble, Wendy has to trust Blade and his team to bring him back safely.
This is the 8th book in Susan Stoker’s Delta Force Heroes Series. This is Aspen/Blade and Wendy’s book.
Blade “meets” Wendy during a phone call when she (as a telemarketer) tries to sell him life insurance. He likes the sound of her voice, and they start talking for a bit. She appreciates that he didn’t cuss her out and hang up on her (like we all seem to do). Over the next few weeks, they keep talking, and then decide to meet in person. Wendy is such a nice girl, and due to being a nice girl, misses out on meeting Blade face to face. The confusion and hurt that ensues is written perfectly!! Anyways, they actually meet in person, and it’s like…BOOM! WOW! Hello connection. She has a dark secret though. She is the guardian of her little brother (which is NOT her big secret). Blade meets the brother. Her brother is having issues from a bully at school. Blade and Wendy have a perfect dating life… that is until questions about this big secret start popping up.
Truck gets hurt during the drama and lets it slip that he’s married to Mary. OMG! The drama that ensues from that alone is written PERFECTLY!!!
Can Blade and Wendy survive her secret?
Can her brother survive this school bully?
Do Blade and Wendy even have a shot at forever?
Can the team survive what Truck and Mary did?
Does the team get broken up and spread out to other teams thanks to those 2?
This book is part of the series titled Delta Force Heroes. If like me you have only read one or two of the books, rest assure that this is a stand alone.
This story belongs to Aspen/Blade, member of Delta Force and the only one in the group that is unattached, and Wendy, a young woman he befriends when she makes a telemarketing call.
I specially liked this story because it dealt more with the characters and their emotions , than with suspense, bad guys vs the good guys etc. Not that there wasn’t any conflict of the kind , but we spend more time with characters that are well developed and complex.
The relationship with these two was sweet . Wendy’s devotion to her brother was touching. But she is keeping secrets and Aspen can tell she is hiding from something or someone. Once we find out, we discover it’s a heartbreaking story.
The reader gets a chance to spend time with other Delta Force members and their loved ones. There will be a few chuckles , especially with Annie, Emily’s daughter.
All in all, a story that will touch your heart and make you want to read all the previous books in the series. It sure made me want to do that.
