THE RUSSIAN MOB’S NEVER BEEN SO HILARIOUS. OR SO DANGEROUS…
PI Dev Haskell wakes up one morning in dire need of an asprin, a cup of coffee, and an hour in the sauna. It seems he’s just spent a wild night with his beautiful bombshell of a client, Kerri, and she’s left him a note. A smart and sly man who fancies himself just a little more savvy and debonair than reality confirms, Dev thinks … reality confirms, Dev thinks he’s got it made. But he has absolutely no idea what he’s getting into when he agrees to track down Kerri’s sister Nikki. Turns out both women are involved in an elaborate human trafficking ring with Braco the Whacko, a notorious Russian mobster, at the helm. Soon Dev finds himself at odds with local police, Homeland Security, and an FBI task force, as well as in and out of the hospital thanks to a gunshot wound and a bit of shrapnel in the rear, not to mention on the run from a neurotic underworld boss and a psychotic killer: it must be love…
In a bizarre but compelling mixture of crime and offbeat comedy, Dev proceeds to messily balance both sides of the law in a wacky tale that will keep you on your toes while laughing out loud.

If you like Carl Hiaasen you’ll like Russian Roulette! A great series starter from another Minnesota author about a bumbling and lovable gumshoe. Another good beach read for the cabin or vacation.
Russian Roulette has everything going for it as far as the PI genre is concerned. Dev Haskell is a great character–apparently sexy since he generally doesn’t have any trouble getting women, funny, self-deprecating, relentless in his pursuit of truth and bad guys, and he drinks too much. What else could you ask for in a P.I. character?
When a …
This is one of my favorite author’s because it has humor with mystery, suspense and shows a more human side of PI Dev Haskell. Dev Haskell is asked by a new client, Kerri who leaves him a note to find her sister, Nikki. While Dev starts looking for Nikki he finds out that both women are involved in an elaborate human trafficking ring with Braco …
Loved this first book in the Dev Haskell mystery series. Offbeat and laugh-out-loud funny at times, I truly couldn’t put it down. I’ve read several in the series and they don’t disappoint!
Kerri wants Dev to find her sister. What seems to be a simple case becomes complicated and Dev seems to get hurt more and worse each time. This is a hard hitting book with some light moments. It makes you want to read the next book to see what kind of trouble Dev can get into next.
A perfect Sunday read. Quick, light, and hilarious. Kept me smiling throughout, and had me laughing out loud on a number of occasions. Good stuff.
A great start to the series. Action and dialogue flow smoothly. A real page-turner.
If the main character was not thinking of women as sex objects, and his main objective in life was not to be drunk, the books would be a five-star.
For a woman who loves twists and turns, taking out the constant bedding of women would keep me reading the rest of the series.
This is the first book in what promises to be an entertaining series.
PI Devlin (Dev) Haskell is simultaneously a modern screw-up and a throwback to classic noir detectives. He’s hired to find beautiful Kerri’s missing sister.
Before the case is over, Dev will fall hard for his client, get shot, tangle with the Russian mob, and end up wanted by …
I love this first book in the Dev Haskell mystery series. It’s offbeat and laugh-out-loud funny at times. I’ve read almost all of the books in the series and they don’t disappoint! Not only did I enjoy them, but I didn’t feel lost by reading out of order.
one of my favorite authors
As the first book in a series, I was hoping for some background to “get to know” the main character. I have no idea what Dev looks like, how old he is, or how he got in to the P.I. business.
The story itself was fun, but I have to wonder how quickly Dev is going to run out of his nine lives? And WHY do law enforcement agencies allow civilians to …
I like a good mystery now and then along with a PI who is interesting as well as flawed in some way. This guy is everything I look for in a good private dick. I have never read this author before and this first book has made me willing to read more books by him.
I was pulled in at the start of the book because Dev came across as a noir type of …
Remember Donny and Marie? “I’m a little bit country… I’m a little bit rock ‘n’ roll…?” Devlin Haskell, PI, is a little bit 30s noir detective and a little bit 21st century screwup. Modern noir sometimes uses throwback technology to set the scene. Mike Faricy gives Dev Haskell all the modern gadgets, but sets the mood with sharp language.
RUSSIAN …
Good plot, just enough wisecracking humor to keep things light. Dev Haskell is a very likable character. Also like the setting………not to many books set in Minnesota!! Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Ah, yes, the first of the Haskell incredible and impossible scenarios sets the tone for the many tomes to follow from Mike Faricy’s pen. I mistakenly credited Ting a Ling as being first, and the hook that put me on his stringer. That was because I read it first, learning after that the series is more fun if read in order. Brainless and …
