I had some mixed feelings about this book at first, but in the end I really liked it. This book had a lot of different feels, small town romance vibes, family secrets and was very mysterious . Dani is returning to the small town she grew up, but a lot of things have changed and also a lot haven’t. It was nice that things slowly started to unravel… and there was a lot of DRAMA, so please be aware, if you are allergic to drama this book might be too much for you. If you can be a drama queen, like yours truly, then you are going to really like this book. The pace was nice as well and the twists and turns in this book were really good. There were a lot of things I did not see coming at all. All in all, this book is perfect for the small town romance lovers and drama queens/kings/royals out there!

Dani’s family consisted of her two sisters (Julia & Erica) and two aunts (Katherine & Mae) after her mother died, and she didn’t feel as she fit in well with her sisters and aunt…the aunt she did get on with was a bit flaky. Then her boyfriend who was also her best friend in the whole world (Jake) ditches her to be with her younger sister, Erica. Jake was her only real tie left in this town so when he left her for Erica, she up and left as fast and far away as she could.
Ten years later she decided that it was time to come home, and by the time she returned…so much had changed. Jake was now with her older sister, Julia, and Erica was gone. So many secrets and scenarios…could Dani keep it together to find herself again…or maybe for the first time?
Tijan had me intrigued from the beginning of this story. Maybe it was because I am so nosey, or maybe because Dani lived such a crazy life. I was so invested into this story…so invested to understand what hurt Dani so bad that she needed to come home to find her bearings. Dani was hurting and slowly learned to heal herself…she even found trust and understanding from the least likely of sources. These characters were very multifaceted and I was so intrigued with how the truths slowly unfolded and revealed themselves one at a time. I cannot wait to read more about these crazy characters.
Cry me an angsty river. Dani was a legitimate sociopath – she showed/had no human emotion. Don’t even get me started on the ickyness that is her ex-boyfriend…who also dated/loved her two sisters? Just no. I need to read about Mason Kade to help me forget this disappointment.
Home Tears is a raw and visceral. Deep and complex, I was seeking answer to many secrets right up until the end. I really enjoy going into Tijan’s books blind and I know without exception that I will enjoy the story she tells.
Home Tears is jam packed with surreptitious affairs, drama and heartbreak. Although, there was a love story, I felt like that wasn’t really the main focus of this story. We were on a path of discovery with Danni as she came running back home after being gone for a decade. Her welcome home was some what gut wrenching.
Danni comes from a family that is crazy, literally. They had so many secrets that of these women tried to hide and bury. Home Tears is as complex as it is enjoyable. Once I opened I was unable to put it. Watching Danni transform from a shell of a person to a strong willed woman, thanks in part to Jonah was completely enjoyable.
” ‘I’m messed up when it comes to guys.’… Jonah took her hand and entwined their fingers. ‘You’ve just got some of the pieces messed up. That’s all.’ ”
Home Tears is a story jammed packed with drama and will keep you engaged until the end.
