P.C. and Kristin Cast, the #1 New York Times bestselling authors of the House of Night phenomenon, return to the scene with The Dysasters–the first action-packed novel in a new paranormal fantasy series. Adoptive daughter of a gifted scientist, Foster Stewart doesn’t live a “normal” life, (not that she’d want to). But controlling cloud formations and seeing airwaves aren’t things most eighteen … airwaves aren’t things most eighteen year olds can do.
Small town star quarterback and quintessential dreamy boy next door, Tate “Nighthawk” Taylor has never thought much about his extra abilities. Sure, his night vision comes in handy during games, but who wouldn’t want that extra edge?
From the moment Foster and Tate collide, their worlds spiral and a deadly tornado forces them to work together, fully awakening their not-so-natural ability – the power to control air.
As they each deal with the tragic loss of loved ones, they’re caught by another devastating blow – they are the first in a group of teens genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements, and worse… they’re being hunted.
Now, Foster and Tate must fight to control their abilities as they learn of their past, how they came to be, who’s following them, and what tomorrow will bring… more DYSASTERS?

Truly wonderful, it brought all the feels. Once again, I find myself swept away by the writing team P.C. and Kristin Cast. I couldn’t put the book down. The plot was well-paced. The dialogue flowed naturally. The characters were well-rounded. It was so good, it left me with a book hangover.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, P.C. & Kristin Cast, and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
Copy kindly received via NetGalley and Pan MacMillan Aus in exchange for an honest review.
I have only read PC Cast’s Tales of a New World Series, so I wasn’t sure how I would like this one. I am going to DNF this for now because I’m not feeling too involved in the story or the characters. Right now they just seem annoying and I don’t feel invested in finding out what will happen.
I may come back to this one day, but for now it’s a DNF. The storyline has promise and is a great idea, it’s just not for me right now.
The Details:
– 1st book in a new series
– YA
– HFN ending
– Unforgettable characters
– A must-read page turner
Fans of Marvel, Justice League and X-Men (the comics or movies), will absolutely adore this new series from mother-daughter duo P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.
The Dystasters, starts off with a blast, jumping straight into the story and dragging readers along on a whirlwind, thrilling mystery adventure.
Magic, conspiracies, secrets, lies and startling discoveries abound in this immersive story that I could easily picture seeing on television one day soon. (I’m crossing my fingers!)
After reading the advanced copy I was lucky enough to receive from PanMacmillan Australia, all I could do was cross my fingers and hope that it wouldn’t be too long before the next book in the series releases because I can’t express how very much I want to know what happens next.
The two things that I loved most about this book is that it is, in most part, female lead/driven (although there are various viewpoints – POV – in the book), and the diversity of the characters.
I think that The Dystasters is the first YA fantasy series that I have read that features a transgender heroine and I absolutely love it.
Highly Recommended Reading.
Review from Rhianna of Bingeworthy Book Blog
This story starts on a storm and ends with the beginnings of love and a new type of family! The ones we choose and not the ones chosen for us are just as much family if not more so as they accept us as we are. I cannot wait to see where this leads!
Foster has issues with a capital I! She has trust issues which are understandable, she cannot relate to, nor does she like people and if that wasn’t enough she has lost the only person who understands her and she’s running for her life.
Enter Tate who is the exact opposite. He is compassionate, considerate and a southern gentleman. He is shoved into Foster’s path and gets hit by devastating loss and forced to run with Foster. While most people would give up on Foster he understands that she has not had a normal, loving upbringing and he intends on getting past her harsh exterior and releasing the truth he knows lies beneath.
All the while Foster and Tate are dealing with their new discovery, the element of air and how to find the missing six with who are thought to hold the rest of the elements. Of course, the core four are also hot on their tails.
The characters are unique and quirky and peppered throughout, the Cast girls touch on very real, very important social issues in a seamless and loving way.
This story is full of action, has great world building and things should only heat up from here on out.
