Ariana has been taken from the life that she’s known since the accident that took her family from her and forced her into the foster system that she abhorred. You won’t find her complaining though about the circumstances she finds herself in. She’s been brought to a place called The Fort. She is expected to train, get stronger, faster and become the top trainee to protect the four princes who have chosen her to be their guard. The odds are not totally in her favor. Her arrival causes a shake-up within the trainees as one in particular views her as a threat and is intent on destroying her. Ariana is getting a crash course in the vampire world and what it all will mean for her and the princes who desire her.
Chosen By Darkness by E.M. Moore is the first book that I have read by this author. This is an enjoyable novel and has some good elements to it. Ariana is an interesting character. She’s flawed but I can work with some of them. She struggles with the nightmares that have returned of the night she lost her family. She also struggles with a fear of vehicles as well, but she handles it well. I applaud her resilience when she is faced with her training. She struggles, but she pushes herself to get better, faster and stronger to prove that she’s worth having there and that these princes who have chosen her didn’t do so by mistake. This story has some depth to it, but I feel that some of it gets lost and/or pushed to the side for the romance angle. The author fills the reader in here and there with some background on the vampires, their world and rules but I wanted more and felt that the story could have benefited from more as well.
There are some editorial issues in this story as well. There are misspelled words here and there that need correcting. The romance happens too quickly for me. There isn’t any foundation or really any foreshadowing of attraction between the characters before it’s thrown at us. It just seems like one minute Ariana is training, the princes come to observe and then suddenly they are spending time with her and calling her “babe” and talking about having feelings for her. Also, why do the VAMPIRES need HUMAN guards? I don’t get this to be honest. The vampires are stronger, faster and better equipped to handle any situation on their own compared to a human so this feels strange to me. I also didn’t like how…I don’t want to say “weak” she becomes but she goes from being good on her own to being this needy chick who wants their attention all the time. I just feel like there are developmental stages missed in this story.
I say these things, but I enjoyed the story for the most part. I’m honestly hoping that she redevelops into who she was BEFORE she essentially turns into putty for four vampires males. This story has a lot of potentials but I need it to come together better and truly mesh. The storyline has a lot of good points and interesting elements that help draw me back into the story when it gets dull, so I’m holding out hope for the next book in this series.
I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a flawed story, but there is potential for this series to be truly engaging and good.

So to see a human come and somehow capture the hearts of these princes is quite enticing. They all try to be friends and not test the limits but soon the pull they have to each other overtakes and consumes them. They can’t seem to be able to be away from one another. I like how she also proves herself as good as anyone else in her class. She stands up for herself and it is commendable. And the way the princes come for her when she is kidnapped and defend her is so awesome! They love each other even though they really aren’t supposed to! They are making their own rules and not letting others influence their decisions! I love it! Can’t wait to see what happens next!

I have to say this book will really keep your attention from the very first page. From there the story just keeps evolving to the point that just when you think you have it figured out it proves you wrong. Mixed in between are vampires, steam, and lots of action. The incredible world building is really just the cherry on top. I highly recommend it to fans of vampire RH novels. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
This is an awesome start to a new series I am so glad I read this story. I love reading about vampires and this book is awesome. I highly recommend this story for everyone who loves vampires.

This book has it all, if you do not mind a slow burn reverse harem. There is action, suspense, obsession, and a pretty sweet love story. I will definitely read more books in this series and by the author!
