What a great start to the Man of the Month series and what a fabulous cover! Down On Me highlights Reece & Jenna in a sweet & sexy, should they/shouldn’t they, reunited friends to lovers story. It also sets up the premise of a group of friends rallying together to save the bar they love.
Kenner skillfully builds the series around The Fix on Sixth, an Austin bar inhabited by a rich assortment of characters who will form the core of future stories. Each month will feature a new couple and I can’t wait to read more about each of them!

Thoughts: Wow, talk about hitting the feels. Beautiful best-friends to lovers story. I loved how down to earth it was. There’s a part where Reece talks about choice of underwear and how much he’s wanting to see her in just plain old white, cotton panties. Reminding woman everywhere that not all men need the sexy, expensive underwear to think their woman is hot. It was one of my favorite scenes, along with the scene at the bar when Reece… Sorry, I’m not spoiling it, you’ll have to read it and find out. It’s a definite page-turner that will have you begging for more.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.
Down on Me is a fun read and a great debut story in the Man of the Month Series.
Lifelong friends Reece and Jenna come together and make a plan to save the bar that Reece works for. Feeling have surfaced between these two before, and years suppressing those feelings haven’t worked. Jenna is a very likable character, Reece is a sexy H (per the usual for J Kenner).
This story is entertaining and sexy. I enjoyed reading Down on Me and look forward to the next Man of the Month.
I’m super excited about J. Kenner’s new Man of the Month series and Down on Me was a great start to the series!
Reece and Jenna have been best friends for years—neither has tried to move their relationship beyond that because their friendship has been too important. Until they just can’t deny their feelings any longer! I loved their best-friends to lovers story! I truly enjoyed their characters and their concern about the potential harm to their friendship. And how their relationship may affect their “Three Musketeers” friendship with Brent too. It was fun, sexy and smart, not too much push and pull to leave us in suspense. It just worked for me.
And I love set-up for the rest of the books too. The Fix on Sixth bar is a terrific central point for all the storylines. I love the concept of the characters commonality with the bar. So fun and I can’t wait for the next one in the series! I have a feeling Spence and Brooke’s story is going to have some fireworks!
“Wild. Hot. Demanding. And dirty enough to keep him from thinking.”
I have been ANXIOUSLY…I mean patiently awaiting to get my hands on this series. I seriously am like a kid in a candy store when J Kenner graces us with a new creation. I just can’t get enough of her words. Before I read this book I had watched a video with Julie and the creator of the cookbook (can’t remember her name…yikes)…such a fun idea to accompany the series. I need to pour the creation that goes with Down on Me while I reread it! The next book I’ll be more prepared and have my drink ready at the start of Hold on Tight!
Let me tell you… This book starts off hot from the first sentence and only gets better and better. I see The Man of the Month Series being one of my all time favorites if the rest of the calendar is anything like January.
“How could either of them risk their friendship for something that might be fun, but wouldn’t last? Because he knew better than to believe relationships last. He was walking, talking proof that they didn’t.”
This book is so fantastic…I know my words don’t do it justice. One-click and see for yourself. You won’t regret it!
What a wonderful friends-to-lovers romance. Reece, Jenna and Brent have been best friends for years, since they were kids. Jenna has been in love with Reece for a long time but doesn’t want to damage their friendship. She leaves home and heads to California to pursue her dream career only to have the company she is working for close up shop. Out of money, she comes back home needing a place to stay and a job. She is anxious to see Reece again. Reece has struggled since Jenna left and when she returns, he jumps into a one-night stand. As the trio of friends reunite, a new crisis is presented when their favorite bar, On the Fix, is facing foreclosure. They band together to build a plan to save the bar which brings them closer together. Now the push and pull between Jenna and Reece is fabulous as they both love each other but neither knows it while all the friends do. What a joy to follow their journey to see if they would get honest and admit how they feel for each other. At the same time, this is a perfect setup for the “Man of the Month” series as a contest is started to generate revenue to save the bar. January is definitely one hot month. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
What a great start to J.Kenner’s new series, Down on Me is Book one in her new Man of the Month Series and if this book is anything to go by I can’t wait to meet the rest of the men. The books are going to be coming out every two weeks starting next week and every book will be about a different man .
Down on Me is Reece and Jenna’s story and it’s a story that will draw you in, friends since children but distance was put between them when Jenna moved away. Jenna has now moved back but will the friendship survive when the chemistry is off the charts or will they give into the feelings they have had for each for many years. Will they take the risk on losing each other as best friends by crossing the line and taking their relationship to a new level or will they stay in the friend zone and risk their hearts.
If you are looking for a book that will keep you turning the pages, is quick to read without taking anything away from the storyline this is a must read. Can’t wait to meet the rest of the men in the Man of the Month Series.
I have been excited to start the Man of the Month series with Reece. J. Kenner is one of my top favorite authors and knew she would not disappoint. It was a slow start for me only at the beginning. But once you get in the nitty gritty of the story, you are hooked! Jenna was perfect as the heroine if the story. The friendship conveyed in Down on Me was genuine.
The romance was not a walk in the park. But not all friends to lovers novels are. J. Kenner brings the sexy into 2018 wither her newest series and Down on Me was a great kick off! I am excited to see where these characters will take us in this amazing journey.
DOWN ON ME is the first instalment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult MAN OF THE MONTH, erotic, romance novella series. This is bar manager Reece Walker, and professional make-up artist Jenna Montgomery’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Reece and Jenna) DOWN ON ME follows the friends to lovers romance between bar manager Reece Walker, and make-up artist Jenna Montgomery. Eight months earlier Texas native Jenna headed to California in the hopes of a furthering her career only to return home to Austin Texas and the welcoming comfort of friends including the man she has loved for most of her adult life. Enter Reece Walker, manager at the local bar The Fix. What ensues is the friends to lovers romance between our leading couple, and the potential fall out when Reece and Jenna don’t see eye to eye on their future-together.
Jenna, Reece and Brent have been best friends for most of their life but the underlying current of palpable sexual energy between Jenna and Reece does not go unnoticed by Brent or any of the others at the local bar. Not wanting to destroy their friendship Jenna pushes any thoughts of a relationship with Reece to the side until their pull towards one another can no longer be denied. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to a large number of secondary and supporting characters including Jenna and Reece’s best friend Brent, and his five year old daughter Faith; Reese’s father Charlie, and his girlfriend Edie; bar owner Tyree Johnson and his son Elijah; Jenna’s friend Amanda Franklin; attorney Easton Wallace; fellow make-up artist and Reese’s one-night stand Megan; and Brooke Hamlin-real estate rehabber. Several other friends and family including bar tender Cameron, and podcaster Griffin Draper-a Fix regular but a man with a secret past, and a celebrity or two drop in to help.
DOWN ON ME is a quick read that sets the stage for the MAN OF THE MONTH twelve-book series as friends and family endeavor to save their favorite watering hole known as The Fix. The premise is engaging and sexy; the characters are sassy and charismatic; the romance is fated and seductive.
5 Star Review Down On Me (Man of the Month #1) by J Kenner
J Kenner is a relatively new author to me as I have only ever read one other book and honestly I have no idea why.
This is the story of Reece Walker, a confirmed bachelor and Jenna Montgomery, a woman he has know most of his life and has lusted over for many months; a friends to lovers story.
Down On Me is not a long book, but boy does it cover a lot of ground. Fast paced, I was riveted from the first chapter; I loved the blurb for the book which is why I jumped at the chance to read and review.
What happens when friendship suddenly morphs into so much more? Reece has no idea how to handle his feelings for Jenna and is in turmoil. Throw in the fact that unbeknownst to him Jenna feels the same way and you start to see how life suddenly becomes so complicated for Reece and Jenna.
Do Reece and Jenna risk their friendship and roll the dice on love, or is it purely lust which may well fizzle out? Purchase Down On Me to find out.
The characters were easy to relate to, not only the main characters but the supporting ones as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this extremely well written and entertaining story and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Another winner from J. Kenner in her new Man of the Month series. Beginning with Down on Me, brings us a friends to lovers romance that definitely paves the way for more books to come. Knowing that each book will have different tropes that will entice us to new levels, but always continuing with the same plot throughout.
J.Kenner has always entertained me in her writing, from her famous Stark Trilogy and then her spin-offs, Down on Me is no different. The first half paved the way for what this series will entail also showcasing the relationship between Reece and Jenna.
“That was a fire that had to stay locked away tight in the realm of fantasy.”
Brent, Reece and Jenna have been best friends forever. They have been through it all, known as the Three Musketeers; been the strength for one another through dating deranged women, families splitting up and now they come together to help a friend save his bar, The Fix.
Jenna has always been one of the guys, but up until 8 months ago, since she left LA, her feelings for Reece have changed. Wanting more than just friendly friendship from the man. What she doesn’t know is that Reece feels the same about her, but will they put their friendship in jeopardy for the sake of lust/attraction?
“No matter what happened next everything was going to change, and they’d never be Reece and Brent and Jenna again.”
In helping to save the bar all three come together collaborating their talents. Jenna’s knowledge in marketing and PR, come up with a brilliant idea… a Man of the Month contest. A contest that will incorporate bidding on men for a slot in a calendar. This idea sets off quite a stir and the bar is already set on a positive path. With the takeoff of Mr. January underway, Jenna and Reece try and figure out their predicament of a relationship.
“I’ve wanted you for one hell of a long time, and now that I have you, I don’t want to play games any more. I’ll be your friend until the end of time, and I hope you know that.”
I enjoyed this story, the characters and the little twist towards the end, which was a nice shocker. J. Kenner did an excellent job at bringing in multitude of characters within this first book to begin the process of what’s yet to come. Very heartfelt on how the other ‘friends’ all came together to help the bar, banding together for one common goal.
I am excited to see what’s in store for Brooke and Spencer’s journey in Hold on Tight, the second novel in this entertaining series.
