A beautifully well written story that is charming with childhood friends becoming more. This long friendship has been through tests, love, and trials and more. Preston and Maddie’s relationship was a slow burn written in present with multiple flashbacks into the past. Very entertaining, sweet, and enjoyable read.

This might be a first read for me from this author, and I’m loving the writing style and how the story reflects from both a past and present perspective . Maddie has always been in love with Preston, and his departure as well as return brings about a bit of insecurity for her that she strives to rebuild in trust. The two reconnect and love is no stranger as they work their way to each other. Truly recommend!

I like this story It is well written, with stupifying detail that keeps you entertained while the characters and plot development is engaging.

This book was sent to me from Booksprout for an honest review. The book starts where it is Maddie’s birthday and she has received flowers from someone she doesn’t want anything to do with. She ends up running into Preston at a business meeting and refuses to have anything to do with him. From then on, the books goes back and forth between the past and present, starting with Maddie’s ninth birthday when she met Preston and his brother Payton. In the present, I get the feeling that something bad happened between Maddie and Preston in the past, which involved breaking her heart. When the book goes back into the past, Maddie tells how when they were younger, Preston and Maddie were the best of friends and the best birthdays she had involved Preston. As they grow older, they start to drift apart even though she doesn’t want to lose Preston. Something happens between them for her 18th birthday and again on her 21st birthday. After having her heart broken for the last time on her 21st birthday, Maddie has vowed not to have anything to do with Preston ever again. When he does show back up, they slowly start to become friends again until their friend Nate makes an innocent comment, causing Maddie to freak out and to kick Preston out of her life for good. After a tragedy occurs, Maddie is surprised that Preston is there for her. After a tenuous start over, things start to look up for them again. The book has potential but the flow just seemed off. I am looking forward to read the other books in the series because the potential is there.
I was blessed with an early copy of this story, and for the most part, Preston & Maddie gave me an enjoyable read! Their story starts out told in Maddie’s POV, alternating between past & present, giving us a glimpse at how their friendship started and how it started to crumble, along with Preston being back in Maddie’s life & seeming to want to reconnect.
The story derailed for me a bit because it felt like there was more time spent with OW/OM than w/ them together as a couple. And when they did finally get together as a couple, it took me a bit to really feel their connection again. (It takes Maddie a while to really feel that connection again, too, so altho I didn’t LIKE feeling that way, it’s written well.)
I DID get the connection back, and enjoyed the story again after that happened.
Overall, the story is well written, as I said, and it’s a really GOOD story! I wish the things that were disconnects for me weren’t there, but if those things don’t bother you, I think you’ll find this a 5 star read! And I AM looking forward to reading about Preston’s brother, Payton, and his lady love. : )
