In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King’s Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by … by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill.
When ex-Army medic Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah’s life, a chain reaction sets Micah’s heart on a collision course with Sam’s, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband, Steve, if they will have a chance at forever. Can Micah hold his emotions together to keep Sam alive?
This book contains explicit sexual content, references to bisexuality and BDSM, knife play, strong profanity, and an explicit sexual scene between two males.

A great series about vampires with a fabulous cast and a story line that will bring you to tears and also bring you laughter. Some pretty hot scenes too and as long as you are cool with M/F, M/M, some BDSM and voyeurism thrown in for good measure you are in for a treat.
One of my favourite series in the paranormal world.
This is a fantastic start to the AKM series. I absolutely love Micah and Sam along with the other wonderful characters. A whirlwind of a read that will leave you wanting more.
Gripping story. Loved it.
I love the way Donya Lynne picks you up and drops you into the story. A must read!
Audio version.
I loved it. I hate spoilers but I will say what happens to Sam’s ex. is priceless.
The narration is superb.
I will definitely be listening to this again.
This Audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
Very interesting story line (if you like hot, exciting diverse characters in paranormal books). I read the entire series over a weekend!
Loved the main female character Sam. Great book all around from the main male character Micah having issues in the love department to finding a true love, and having problems with people he works with. Sounds a little like real life at times. However it always come out the way it really should be. The best part was what happened to Steve. …
Some may in fact like this book; but for me I lost interest on the first page. I tried to continue, but the main character just wasn’t…
this book put a new twist on paranormal romance- it was entertaining but pretty slow at first. wish the characters could have been developed a little bit more before it got into the action…I was lost for a while at the first
I didn’t think it was that romantic. It definitely had more action than I was used to. I thought the female falling in love with the main character so quickly as a human was a little unrealistic.
Didn’t grab me enough to finish reading
Love it!
Tragic souls and true love
I enjoyed so much I moved on to book 2.I wish the whole series was on Audible. But I plan on reading them as I can afford. If you like paranormal romance check this series out.
I enjoyed the story and would recommend it. There was a lot of mystery or half stories around the other characters so felt like I’d started in the middle of a series. I’m not sure if there are books before this one. Definitely worth a read and I will be looking for other books by this author
Loved it! Highly recommend!
What are you looking for in a book? Graphic straight sex? Check. Self mutilation? Check. Domestic abuse? Check. Homo action? check. Arrogant asshole main characters? Check. Self gratification? Check. BDSM? Check. Sadly although the storyline was building up to it we ran out of book before the developing threesome occurs.
So many books have been written about Vampires since I was a kid, and to be honest I much prefer the ones writen today, yes they can still kill us, enthrall us, but slowly they are becoming more and more human, with feelings and falling in love.
For several centuries one found a uneasy old truce between Vampires and their very distant cousins
a …
I have to say that as soon as I started reading I was pulled directly into the world of Micah Black. Though I did not know who he was at first I knew that this was going to be someone I could like based on how dark and tortured he appeared because you know that he feels deep. The plot of this book is very straight forward and keeps moving at a …
