Great book as are all of Mr Moore’s books.
Hiram and Naki risking their lives to save others from the raging water and then there would be mudslides from the hillsides in Japan.
Resting now in a ryokan, and reading about the samurai men had interested him from college, to be one the discipline, patience, skill, and selfishness. Katashi Goto was a drug lord, retraining to be a monk. His forebears were samurai, the Japanese government denied the connection.
He now would rectify that, by stealing what was rightfully belonging to his family. Hiram tried, with no luck to alert someone of what was pending.
It was up to him, and he wonders ‘what sort of ego is making him to do this’
The setting, the temples the history make his books captivating as though there, with him and his adventures.
The Samurai Code – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Yakuza boss Katashi Goto is retiring – to become a Buddhist monk! Despite a lifetime sanctioning or committing torture and murder to get what he wants, he believes one last mission will clear his past crimes and leave him free to seek absolution and peace in his last years.
Steven Moore’s fast-paced thriller satisfies on many levels. His hero Hiram Kane has come to Japan as part of his international sight-seeing tour; friendly and easy-going his altruistic side comes to brilliant life, as he works tirelessly with rescue workers after a typhoon strikes the country.

The Samurai Code, my second read from author Steven Moore. The action takes off like a jet plane of an aircraft carrier and never lets up until the end. I read this book in one sitting! Well-written action-thriller, with well-developed characters. I’ll be reading more in this series and look forward to The Condor Prophecy. Narrator Kenneth Bryant’s narration again made this re-read so very enjoyable! “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Another action-packed adventure…
This is the second book of the Hiram Kane Series and, like the first one, is rife with beautifully detailed descriptions of exotic locales. Additionally, it is brimming with fascinating cultural insights regarding the legendary Samurai as well as the modern Japanese people. This installment has Hiram battling epic storms and the fabled Yakuza so it is no understatement to say that the story is fast-paced and filled with action. This story offers daring rescues, fight scenes, acts of treachery and deceit, as well as incredible acts of courage and inspirational heroism. A bit of Hiram’s background is revealed as the story unfolds and it is my hope that more details will be forthcoming in future books as Hiram is a most unusual and very interesting character. For those choosing to listen to the audio version of this story, the narrator, Kenneth Bryant, did an excellent job. He is especially good with the Japanese language and at making each character distinct. Whether reading or listening, I think most action/adventure enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy this little gem.
While I did purchase a copy of this book, I was given a copy of the audiobook by the author and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.
“There is only one judge of the honour of a Samurai: Himself.”
A beautiful and sometimes wise and others misplaced concept. A vision described by the main character of a picturesque and beautiful Japanese surroundings. The author transports us from the Samurai epoch to present day with clarity, the anguish of a Samurai descendant Yakuza Boss, the morality behind Hiram’s acts, fast paced, full of action, adventure, antique artifacts and lovely scenery. I sure recommend it!

An exciting read crafted around interesting and multifaceted characters. I could not put this down and traded some sleep hours for the enjoyment of reading it to the end. I would be anxiously waiting for book 2, but I have already read it, so waiting for book 3.
