“Sweetbitter meets The Nightingale in this page-turner about a woman who returns to her family’s ancestral vineyard in Burgundy to study for her Master of Wine test, and uncovers a lost diary, a forgotten relative, and a secret her family has been keeping since World War II.”
It was a wonderful read. I happen to enjoy historical WWII fiction and I love travel, food and wine. All of this along with an interesting romance (that was not the main point of the book) made this a great read. I chose it for my book club and everyone enjoyed it. They especially enjoyed the information given regarding workings in a vineyard and lovers of wine.
Interesting about a wine stash..a little weak in the romantic end
If you like wine, you’ll love this. It goes into great detail about Burgandy and wine making. I enjoyed that the story was told from two viewpoints (one in present day and one during WWII in Nazi occupied France). There was a romance thrown in that seemed a bit unnecessary but the mystery made up for it.
Good but not great.
I did enjoy the book though it was quite predicatable.
I really liked this book – even with all the French, I was able to follow along quite well. And the wine talk! I was in heaven! The back-and-forth time jumping was pretty flawless. I had to take one star off (would have taken 1/2 a star, but can’t), because of a story/character glitch near the end– it just didn’t feel real or make sense. But it’s a relatively minor point, and shouldn’t deter you from reading this beautiful novel.
did not like
Good story. Enough information about the resistance in France in WWII to keep me interested. Though I don’t mind happy endings, everything was wrapped up a bit too neatly for me.
